Many people buying turnkey homesteads end up mortgage-poor, with payments eating 60% of income and forcing them to work constantly instead of enjoying the land. Fixer-uppers offer a better path to actually living the homestead life you wanted.

Then you begin to burn out, give up on your dream because you're not able to live that lifestyle because you're— you got a mortgage payment that's, you know, 60% of your paycheck. I want to prevent that. The difference between a turnkey homestead versus a fixer-upper homestead— turnkey homestead, like we have learned, is ultra competitive. It's priced very high, and the equity opportunity is very, very slim. You're actually relying on the market flow at this point, and I see a lot of homesteaders actually burn out. From putting a lot of money down on a mortgage because they become what I've— what I call homestead poor. You are so bought into this homestead that you have to work your rear off to even afford it. You don't have time to live the life that you bought the house for, or the homestead, in the first place.
