114. Driven Mind. Peaceful Life.
15 Nov 2025 · 12 min
Kenny Chapman (host) presents episode 114, "Driven Mind. Peaceful Life.", arguing that a highly driven or wired mind is a gift rather than a curse and can coexist with peace. He shares personal anecdotes (sobriety, sleep patterns, mastermind conversations) and offers four actionable practices—slow down, up-level self-care, keep learning, and fail more often—to help driven people cultivate a peaceful life. The episode closes with encouragement to share the podcast and an affirming sign-off.

Foreign Kenny Chapman here, your host of leadership in a nutshell where we're cracking the code of that driven mind that you and I are gifted with. I used to think it might be a little bit of a gift and a curse situation, but I know it is nothing but a gift, my friend. And I want to welcome you to episode 114, believe that or not. Driven mind, peaceful life. Let's talk about that today. I want to dive in with welcoming you and thanking you for being here. Do me a favor and just share this podcast with somebody that you know. We're gaining some grassroots growth and I'm just honored to spend a few minutes a week with you and I get great feedback on our short episodes are one topic driven. I'm not here to waste your time. I'm here to change your life and I'm going to change your life one moment at a time. Because that's all we have is one moment at a time. And when we have this driven mind that we're gifted with that I want to talk today about sometimes we forget that we can have and enjoy a peaceful life even in the midst of ADD and ADHD and all the XYZs and PTSD's and all the different things. And I'm not minimizing any of those. I'm probably clinically diagnosed with all of them. I just don't always get tested for everything that that I probably should have. It's not an outside out of mind. It's just sometimes I don't need a label to know how I feel and what to do about it. And so that being said, I can relate to. I have countless clients and peers that I'm in. High level masterminds for driven entrepreneurs. We at Blue Collar we run our own masterminds and trainings and high level events for our Empire members and weekly connection and different things. And what I see is that we're all kind of wired as outliers together in certain areas. And if you're on this podcast, you're part of my tribe and I take that very seriously and I take high responsibility to be able to share some things with you. And I was just having a conversation with what the world would call one of one of Blue Collar Success Group's competitors. I don't believe in competition. I believe in collaboration and I collaborate with the universe every single day and other people are in the space doing similar things in their way, shape or form in their own self expression and I remain friends with those that are willing to be friends and play Alongside. And so I was having a conversation with the CEO of another training and coaching organization in the blue collar space, actually. And he said, we hit our goal today for the month and this and that. And he said, kenny, why is it that I hit the goal? And I had about 30 seconds of being excited about it and then I just shifted right to man. But now what? We could do this or that or next month and all. And it was interesting. And I just, I reflect on that and I want to share that because we often realize that the mind is an interesting thing. And I used to call it a crazy thing, but I think it's just a gift of the greatest computer on the planet. And we have this divine universe that's created this amazing algorithm of thinking and problem solving and conscious awareness. And we get to apply that gift in business. And because we're gifted in that way, we have this tendency to start just problem solving all the time. And when I say all the time, maybe some of you can relate. I'm a guy that, since I don't drink anymore or smoke anything anymore or whatever, I have some caffeine I guess would be my drug of choice if I had to label one at the moment. Because I drink some coffee here and there. I drink some green tea. But what I'm getting at is I used to get home and I'd drink every night and try to calm my mind and different things. And then I would end up going to sleep a little early. And then I wake up at two in the morning when the blood sugar's changing and I get kind of cold sweats or whatever. Not feeling good. Clammy a little bit. Maybe you can relate. Maybe you're not a drinker and you can't relate, but those of you give me a head nod. You know who you are and I'm not. I'm just sharing that. I get that. And here's what's interesting. When I quit drinking, I sleep way better than I used to. But I'm not going to sit here and lie to you and tell you that I never wake up at 2 in the morning. I mean, in my amazing 50s now. Fabulous 50s. Maybe we need to name them something. My fabulous 50s. Now I don't know if it's a bladder thing or what, but I, okay, I gotta wake up, I gotta pee at 2, 2:30, something like that. And I hit the pillow. I don't have the cold sweats anymore. I'm not clammy or anything, but my mind will sometimes go, hey, don't forget we could solve a couple problems now and. But I don't have any problems right now. Well, but we can manufacture a couple and maybe get you to thinking about something and give me a little hand raise if you get. If you know, talking about and maybe just shake your head with me. Right. And so I'm not here to tell you that I've got it all figured out, but I am here to tell you that I live in more peace, more gratitude, more bliss, more like a sanctuary of life than I ever have. Because I've embraced my driven mind and I require a peaceful life. I intentionally remove complexity, complexity from my life. Once a quarter, I review what I've got going on, I review my projects, I review my task list, and I go, is this serve my self expression still? Okay, cool. If it doesn't, then I won't. I don't know how long I'll do this podcast. I don't have any intention of stopping it with all the great feedback that I get, the connection that I have with each of you. We're 114 episodes in going Strong, and I thought by now I would definitely be interviewing guests. I probably will. I keep saying that at some point I will start interviewing interviewing guests, but I really enjoy just being able to sit down and riff with you a little bit once a week and just share some energy because we. I'm not here to just add an hour to your day or a should. I'm here to talk about conversations like I had with my buddy, runs a training organization. I'm here to talk about another friend of mine that runs an Internet marketing company. And he's one of the more conscious individuals I know in the blue collar space. And we were just talking recently where he's like, man, dude. It's like every few months I feel like I'm living in presence really good. And then all of a sudden I'll realize, damn, I'm thinking all the time again. All of a sudden it like, sneaks back in. So I recorded this episode for you today to just remind you that you're not alone. It's okay. Remember that when you go back and listen to some of the meditation episodes I've done here, some of the relaxation techniques that I've shared here. If you come to Blue Collar's acceleration days, I do live meditations from stage there and help you kind of calm the mind and get into your morning rituals and different ways to create more emotional regulation in your life. But I want you to just take a step back and look at your beliefs. Because what's hard for me when I have people in my tribe that tell me I can't do that, like obviously, I'm not a big fan of the word can't because can't is a belief and words are beliefs. So when I say I can't, or I say I can, or I say I could, but not yet, possibly, those are all beliefs. And when I hear people just like you and me say I can't meditate, I can't slow down, I can't control this mind, I can't stop drinking, I can't create emotional regulation, I can't make money every month, I can't have double digit profits, I can't take a vacation without thinking about it, whatever that is, that's a belief. And you manifest your beliefs, my friend. So when you check yourself and you look at your life and realize your life is a result of two things. Number one, the questions that you ask yourself in the universe and number two, the beliefs that you hold around yourself and the universe. And if you think your driven mind is this big issue that needs a bunch of drugs and needs diagnosis and needs to have some medical professional tell you what's wrong with you, it's bullshit. And forgive my directness, I'm not minimizing that you've got some things going on in there. But I'm telling you it's a gift. And I care about you enough to tell you that it is a gift. You're wired differently than the people diagnosing you. And that is a good thing. The challenge comes when we don't realize. I can have this crazy driven mind and yet still lean into peace, still have joy, still take vacation, still love my team and work through mistakes. And here's what I want you to do today. My beliefs. You can have your cake and eat it too. And I don't know what that means. I don't know why you would have cake and not want to eat it. Yeah, Maybe that's the 11 year old short fat kid coming out in me. But I tell you what, man, we found a gluten free vegan bakery in Scottsdale. Now that makes the best cupcake. So I'm gonna have a cupcake and I'm gonna eat it too. That's right, I'll do that. And then I'll go to the gym the next day. But here's the thing. I'm going to give you four things I want you to do today to embrace this amazing driven mind so you can continue to scale up your peaceful life. Number one, just simply slow down. It's an intention. Slow some things down. Realize when are you taking a break. When every moment you don't have something going on, you're on your phone. When you're on your phone, you're not slowing down. Go into a bookstore, in a waiting room, in a bus station, I don't know where bus station, I haven't ridden a bus and I don't know how long I'm thinking about public transportation or the subway or whatever it is. I go to the auto mechanic taking your car for service. Go to get a haircut. I just recently got a haircut. I'm waiting on my barber and everybody's on their phone and it's just. Why? Because our mind is just looking to be distracted. Peace doesn't come from distraction. Peace comes from leaning into what is. Slow down a little bit. Number one. Number two, up level, self care. Yes, I'm going to keep beating that drum. And when I say self care, that can be setting your phone down and sitting in the barbershop for 10 minutes in your head and listening to your thoughts and observing your thoughts and paying attention to your words that come to mind that manifest as beliefs. Up level, your self care. Take some time for you in the morning, whether it's meditation, whether it's prayer, whether it's reading a little bit, whether it's listening to an audiobook, whether it's going for a walk, whether it's just spending a little time with your pets, whatever it is, your children, your spouse, self care. Number three, learn something. Make sure you're learning. People don't die because they get old. They die because they stop learning, because they stop self expression, because they stop being engaged in life. Make sure you're learning something. And the last thing I'll leave you with today, fail more often. You go, whoa, Kenny, you're a success guy. You wrote Blue Collar Success Laws, the new book. Like why? That's right. I'm going to say what the world calls fail more often. That means you're doing stuff that maybe doesn't work out the way that you intended, but the universe won't let you make a mistake. You need some education, you need to learn and you need to do some things that don't work out and that's okay, and that's part of life and that's what it's about. And when you have a driven mind, you drive yourself crazy thinking you're going to get things perfect every time, thinking that when you start something, it's going to work out just the way it's, quote, supposed to. And, my friend, I'm here to tell you, it is working out exactly how it's supposed to. And where you are right now, listening to me, sharing this time together is exactly where you're supposed to be. You're gifted with a driven mind. Now it's time for you to decide to have a peaceful life. I'm Kenny Chapman, your host. I'm just resonating with energy and gratitude for you being with me today. Do me a favor, kick this episode to somebody that you love and care about. Pay attention that driven mind. Embrace it and up level your peace, my friend. There's nothing more important than that. Enjoy until we talk again. As your host of leadership in a nutshell, I want to tell you, have a better than fantastic day, and I'll see you next time. Thanks.
