15 Nov 2025 · 20 min
Kenny Chapman explores why people constantly want more, framing it through a cycle of learning, sharing, impact, and soul alignment. He argues wanting more is natural human evolution, not greed, and invites you to reflect on what more means for you.

Foreign. Hey, my friend. Welcome, welcome, welcome back to the show. I'm your host, Kenny Chapman. I'm super pumped that you're here with me for Leadership in a nutshell, episode 135. Today I want to talk to you about why do I always want more. That's the title of today's episode. And I just, I, I explore this with my individual clients. I just, I just keep a handful of individual clients that, that we work on really communication, leadership, high level limiting, belief removal and different, different things like that. And, and this concept came to me recently and I just want to share it with you. And one of the things about listening to Leadership in a Nutshell is you get a little bit of an inside track of what's going on in my mind and sometimes even before I will turn something into a tool and really kind of put it out in the world, I, I talk to you about the concept and I see from my listeners if it resonates, if it makes sense, if it, if it feels good or like, ah, Kenny's just on a tangent this week, so we will see tangent this week to be determined, we'll put it that way. Right. So I just, I want to thank you. If you haven't liked an episode or like the show, please like the show, please share the show. This is just a passion of mine and I really want to help as many people as I can and I just, when I, when I hear from people, I get really good feedback. Even though it's a solo cast show, it's just me just kind of throwing up some beliefs on you and some thoughts on you once a week for you to take away. And I've, I've been getting great feedback so though I will have guests at some point, I've just, I keep getting people saying no, just keep bringing us this 15, 20 minutes a week. So I'm gonna continue to do that and we'll resonate together. So why do I always want more Today? That's, that's one of the things I, that I, I want you to think about. I, I, I, I'll speak personally for a moment. I'm, I'm in an incredible place in my life. I, I have more gratitude, I have more happiness, I have more peace, I have more self care, I have more self love, I have more what I call bliss in my life than I've ever had to this point. And it's been a quite a journey and I would say that it's been quite a journey. Riddled with pain, filled with pain, self Created pain, external created pain, whatever, you know, whatever that looks like. But I'm grateful for the pain because I was fortunate enough to get to a, a level of pain, and I'll call it a deep enough level of pain in my life to make some massive shifts and changes and just decide that I am not willing to live my life in fear, to live my, my life in pain, to live my life in, in the, the addiction to suffering that I kind of accepted as the human condition for, for most of my life. And so, you know, a few weeks back I recorded Dangers of Decision Fatigue and I got a lot of really great feedback on, on that specific episode because I think where we are in the world right now, that resonates with you and our listeners around like, ah, just, I just want to chill out. I just want to have a good time. And the challenge is we end up chilling out by grabbing our phone or watching TV or skimming social media in some capacity. And that is not chilling out. It adds to decision fatigue, it adds to comparative mindset. And, and remember, if you're in a place to write, I'm going to have you take a few notes today. If you're not, don't worry about it. Keep doing what you're doing and make sure you're safe out there. But come back to this episode and jot this down because I, I've had this, what I call the more model come to mind. And, and it's basically it came from my, my own introspective journaling and, and I just want more. And, and like I, you know, and I've had friends and colleagues and clients and peers have this conversation and it's fascinating. Like the more I create, the more bliss I experience, the more I want. And, and it's probably why I had the addictive personality that kind of got me into the funk with drugs and alcohol and different things like that. And now I just, I, I love this vibration that I get to experience in the human plane and, and I just, I want to go deeper into it. I want to learn more about myself. I want to continue to expand my understanding, my awareness, my consciousness level, all those things. And so though the, the, the overall show is called Leadership in a nutshell, here we're really in life design. Like my, my high level coaching program that I do with people is, is called Life Architecture. And really that's kind of what we're doing here is we're just pulling out the blueprints and seeing what works. Do we need to knock a wall down? Do we need to reroute some plumbing. What does that look like for our lives and for our businesses and for our teams and for our families and for our finances? So why do I always want more? Why do you think that is for yourself? Just. Just give yourself a moment in time to answer that question. And that. That's how this all started. So what, man? Kenny, you're. You're happy, you're in gratitude, you're in the woman, you're. You're in a relationship with the woman of your dreams. You're, you know, in a. In a. In a great spot in so many areas of your life. What, what is this? And so what is it for you? Why do you want to make more money? Why do you want the next promotion as a team member? Why do you want to win the sales award? Why do you want to have the highest call center closing percentage? Whatever. Whatever that is? Why is that? And just think about it for yourself, okay? Now you've got a reason, right? And so I want to challenge you. Where, when. Has this not been the case in your life? So when you, you go back to, you know, grade school, high school, college, trade school, you know, I didn't go to college. Well, I went to that one semester of college. But the, the military for me, right? So going to the Gulf War, I just, I. I wanted to. Everywhere it seemed like I was. I wanted out of that area to get to the next thing. And that creates a lot of pain and that creates a lot of trauma, and that creates a lot of mental health challenges. So I'm not talking today with you around you trying to leave your situation, though. If you're in a toxic situation and, and you don't like, you know, some of your behaviors, what you're doing in your life, then absolutely lean into fully changing that. And you might reference my book, the Six Dimensions of Change 2.0. And so I rewrote the book a couple years back based on my. My new levels of understanding from the decade that I experienced on the planet since I had written the first version. And so, you know, change needs to happen, and it's going to happen whether you like it or not. Right? But when I think about more now, I'm not talking about, like, I gotta get out of this. I gotta. I got to completely change my life. I got to blow it up. I. I got to. I got to go get divorced. I got to get a new girlfriend. I got to get a new sports car. I got to get a new place to live. I've got you Know now as I'm recording this, don't know, make no mistake about it, I'm actually building our next level dream home at this time. So. But here's the caveat. The day that the lovely Christie and I move into that home, I am fully consciously aware of that I will be no happier than I am right now. And that might catch you off guard, so it might be like, well then what the hell, dude? Why are you building the house? And those were the questions that I used to struggle with, like, well, if I'm here to live in bliss on the daily and it doesn't matter if I drive my Porsche or I drive a 78 Chevelle, like my first car, like, you know, what's the point? The things aren't the point. The evolution, the experience. I'm excited to build the house. I'm excited going through the process. I'm excited cited from the challenges I have with the builder and the realtor on the other side of the deal and navigating the communication. And I, I love that stuff because it forces or creates a platform, I'll say, that gives me an opportunity to evolve as a human being. That is why I want more. Where before I used to kid myself, I used to think that when I moved into my last dream home, which was in Colorado, or the home that Christie and I live in now, which we did build, but it was a, it was always built as a transition home. We weren't building it for a long term place. We've been there four years, time to go. And, and so the, the point is that in the past, in my businesses, when I, when I would start a business, when I would buy a business, when I would do an acquisition as a tuck in, when I was in the plumbing, heating, air industry, when, you know, whatever that was, I was just hanging on, oh my God, as soon as this is done, I'm going to be happy back to when, when we hit 250 in sales. Remember I started by myself as a dead pro drain cleaner in the truck. We did $12,000 in revenue my first year. That's right, my first year. 12 grand. Many of you are doing 12 grand a day or sell of one one job. That's 12 grand. That was my year because I was $35 to unclog a kitchen sink and 42 for a mainline or $40 for a main line. 45 if I had to get on the roof and go down the roof vent, which is, you know, a whole nother story. Don't take me down that Track. But. But the point is that I always thought, you know, man, when we do 250 in sales, I'll be happy. When we break 500 in sales, when we break a million, when we break 4 million, what. Whatever it is. And then it's like, well, when I have this car, when I have this house, and we all. I'm. I'm speaking something that you already know, right? And part of what I do with this podcast is I just take things that are in my head and I package them together and I share with you to remind you of stuff that you already know. In many cases, many cases you already know. This is true, that when you get the next thing, you're not going to be happy. What I want to challenge you is from sometimes in a spiritual realm of growth or different things, then you start kind of questioning, well, then, what the hell is my point? Why am I here? What am I doing? Why would I want to build my business? Why would I want to build a new house? Why would I want to have financial freedom? Why would I want to have loving relationships? Why do I. Because that's the whole point. So why do I want more? Let's look at the more model, and I just want to kind of have you picture this in a. In a circular fashion. And in the top, in the middle of the page, if you're with me, write more life. And at the end of the day, that's it. I want more life. And I think you want more life. And what does that mean? It represents in different ways the lovely Christy. And I don't have children. Maybe you've got children. Maybe you've got grandchildren. Maybe you're building a business for a family legacy. Maybe you're building your business to sell. Maybe you're up leveling as a leader so you can learn more, so you can be more, so you can do more and ultimately have more. Maybe you're just in a regrouping session of your life, whatever that is, but you want more life, my friend, and that's okay. It's okay to want what you want because you want it. And that's where I want you to get clear. It is okay to want more. Don't let anybody talk you out of that, because it's a necessary component of human evolution, and we are here to evolve in this great state that God, universe, Spirit gave us. And that's the point. I want more life overall, number one. And then I said, well, for Kenny, what does that mean? And I asked myself the question, okay, cool. I get that. I, I want more life. So what makes that up? Well, for me, you kind of go down and round to the side of where you wrote more life and write more learning. For me, I want more learning. For me, more life means more learning. I'm an avid learner, which is hilarious that I did terrible in school, right? I, I was a bad student or so they told me, or taught me or caught, you know, whatever that looked like. Like, oh, you know, you suck at school. Here's your, you know, your C grades. And I had to keep that 3.2 or 2.8, whatever it was, to stay eligible for baseball. So I did that. Why? Because I wanted more baseball. I wanted more learning from baseball, you know, that I wanted more life. And at that time, baseball was my life. I was going to be a major league baseball player. Today, I am super grateful that that original gold dream didn't happen. I don't want to be on the road six months of the year playing 162 games in different cities and getting traded and living. One of the reasons I got out of the United States army is because I couldn't live where I wanted to live. And that's why I live where I want to live now, right? So, so why do I want more? I want more life. And I make that up by I want more learning. Then we move on. So learning's a component for me. What's the next step? Once I learn something, I want, write it down, more sharing. And I think this is true for humanity. But this is my, this is my truth. I'm sharing intimately and openly with you today. I want to share that. So I want more life by more learning. Then I want more sharing. Today I'm, I'm sharing this with you because it impacted me and it made sense to me and I went, oh, okay. I don't have to beat myself up because I want more. I don't have to feel guilt, shame or regret that I just always want to go to the next level, whatever that level is, because I want to learn more and then I want to share more. And that's what I'm doing with you today. You probably learn more so you can share with your family, with your team members, with your children, with your grandchildren as you learn more. And that's part of wanting more life. It's okay. Then we kind of go to the next. You take your dial down around, around five o' clock on the, on the, you know, as you rotate around and write more impact. So for me, I exist to up level the consciousness of the human experience while I'm here. And that happens in myself and that happens in those around me. And so as I experience more life, I experience more learning. That way I'm able to experience more sharing. And by doing that sharing, I'm able to make more impact. I have this, this podcast, not just so I sit down at the microphone and talk for 15 to 30 minutes a week. It's so I can make an impact in your daily life. And when I get the email and when I get the feedback, that, oh, that episode really spoke to me. That's why I do it. I, I love sharing and making an impact. So that's one of the reasons I want more life. And there's nothing wrong with that. And the same is true for you. You want to make an impact. That's why you're on the planet. You probably do it through your leadership, you probably do it through your family, you do it through you growing your finances, you do it through attending children's things, you know, whatever that is. You want more impact too. And for me, as I work through these, I go to the next thing, which is more soul alignment. And so if you kind of, kind of go around the clock, I've got at the top, more life. And then I go to around 2 o' clock and I've got more learning. And I go down around 4 o' clock and I've got more sharing. And then I go to about 8 o' clock and I've got more impact. And then I go up to about 10 o' clock and I've got more soul alignment. And for me, that's what it's all about. I want more life. So I want to learn, I want to share, I want to impact. And as I do that, I evolve as a human being. And therefore that brings me more into soul alignment. The more that I learn, the more that I share, the more impact I have, the more I'm aligned in my sole purpose. What I'm put on the planet for to do. That's what gives me the fire in my belly. That's what gets me to spring out of bed in the morning. That's what gets me to fly across the country or the world to do a keynote or speak or do events. That's what gets me to jump on and host our empire. Executive power calls like, that's what it's all about for me. And then, my friend, you just evolve and you repeat. And so then you go, okay, now I'm at this level. And so it's a little Bit like Maslow's hierarchy. There's that self actualization model that, that Maslow came up with. And I, and, and I, I love that model and I've taught that model and some of you listening may have seen me teach back in the day and I talk about that model in the six dimensions of change 2.0. And today I just really want to jump on and share with you about this more because what happens a lot is we're taught that it's bad to want more. Well, you have enough, you should just be grateful for. And yes, that's true, we do have enough. The challenge is that we have enough already in our lives. And once we have enough, it doesn't mean we stop. The day you stop is the day you begin dying. And though we're dying out every day, I believe that we die as early as we do in what, 70 to 80 years old. Because that's what we've agreed to and we have conditioning around it. More importantly than that, I think that look at my friends in their early 50s, or my peers, I should say, that are in their early 50s and trying to check the box of retirement and slowing down and not doing things. And I'm all about balance. I'm all about having the, you know, finding what works for you in life. But what I'm telling you is if you stop growing, you're going to die. And that's not a threat, that's not anything like that. You will find a way to go to the next level of, you know, if you're going to heaven, whatever, whatever the case may be, because you're, you're done here and you're done growing. And there's nothing wrong with wanting more life. There's nothing wrong with wanting your business to grow. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make more money. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be healthier. There's nothing wrong with wanting, wanting to lose weight. There's nothing wrong with fill in the blank, my friend. That's what it's all about. Why do I always want more? Because that's what God put us on the planet to do. To go, be, do, create, have more, repeat, more life, more learning, more sharing, more impact, more soul alignment. Evolve and repeat, my friend. That is what it's all about. That's a little snapshot of my more model. Let me know if that's working for you. Let me know if the if the podcast is working for you. Kennykenny chapman.com easiest way to give me feedback and actually write me a review right here on the platform that you're listening, pop over and give me feedback on there. That way other people can see it. And Apple or Spotify or Google podcasts or wherever you're listening, they love that stuff. They love the algorithm. And I love you for listening and sharing. Kick this episode to somebody that maybe they've been beating themselves up a little bit. Like, I shouldn't want more. I'm already blessed. Yes, you're blessed. And that means that you're ready to go to a new level. And that way you can take care of others even more. That's what it's all about, my friend. I'm Kenny Chapman, your host. Leadership in a nutshell. Until we talk, make it a better than fantastic week, and I'll see you next time. Thank you, Sam.
