Foreign. Welcome back to Leadership in a Nutshell. We're cracking the code of that driven mind. And I want to thank you for being here. I'm your host, Kenny Chapman. I'm super jazzed to have you. This is the last episode of 2022 as we know it, my friends. We want to talk about setting up success. So here's a success setup, exercise that I'll call it for 2023. So I'm just going to be quick with you to the point, give you some things. There's a lot going on right now around, oh, New Year's resolutions and this and that and do this and reflect on that. I just want to give you some tools that I know work, that I know work for my, like, I'll say I know work for me. I know work for my clients. I know work for the. Work for some peers of mine. And, you know, just really, it's a matter of you getting the information that you need from an experience, and I'll call that the life experience. I personally believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. And in that human experience is just overabundance of lessons. It's just loaded with lessons. And the challenge is sometimes we accept what shows up as a lesson, as a truth or a reality or something that just the way that it is. And one of the things I want you to think about even more in 23 than you did in 22 is challenging some of those accepted beliefs. Now I'm all about accepting things as they come and minimizing resistance in my life, because every time you minimize resistance, you minimize suffering. And I believe that we are addicted to suffering as a human race. And I think it shows up in all kinds of different ways. And those of us in leadership, we kind of. We're looking to shift the narrative, if you will, change the conversation, if you will. But we've got to do that with ourselves. Not about being perfect. It's about progress. And that's all we're looking for. And so when we look to hit 23 running and not, you know, yes, I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions. Why? Because you don't change your life based on a date or a time on the calendar. You change your life when you're ready to change your life. You change your life when you reach an I've had it moment, and I've had it moment, which I learned that lesson from the great Les Brown when Les and I traveled around. We did 14 cities in five months together several years back. And Les talked about the I've had it moment. And what I've realized is we all have different I've had it moments. And then we have many of those throughout our time on this planet. So you might have an I've had it moment. When it comes to your weight, when it comes to your financial situation, when it comes to your relationship with drugs and alcohol, when it comes to your intimate relationship, when it comes to, you know, whatever it is, you reach these different levels of I've had it moments. And I want you to realize as you elevate your consciousness, as you elevate your awareness and what you do on a daily, weekly, monthly basis on the planet, then you're going to have different I've had it moments. My I've had it moments now are different than they used to be. In 2022. I had an I've had it moment around my sleep. I still just, I've done so much in self care work and I've got rituals around so many different things, but I wasn't shutting down the night before. I have great morning rituals, but I wasn't shutting down effectively prior to implementing my digital sunsets. And the things that I do now to get my mind right and get ready to sleep better, that's an I've had it moment. I was just tired of being tired. And it's not like I woke up every day dragging because I drank for many years, remember? So now that I don't, that I don't do that, I feel great all the time, but I know the power of sleep. So I just had an I've had a moment. I'm done. I'm going to commit to sleeping better. That's it. It happened in the you know what, third, fourth quarter of 2022, I didn't go, you know what, when the calendar rolls from 31 to one of when it rolls from 22 to 23, then I'm gonna focus on my sleep. No, do it when you're ready. And if you're not ready, don't kid yourself that you're going to be because collective agreements around our holiday parties and I'm gonna do this next year without emotional engagement. You're not gonna do anything, so be easy with yourself. Don't kid yourself. Always tell yourself the truth. All progress begins with telling yourself the truth. Truth. And I want you to tell yourself some truth with this exercise that I've put together a few questions for you today. So first off, looking back at 2022, what are you proud of? What accomplishments have you made. What achievements did you have? So really, we start with what am I proud of? So just, you know, here, I want you to be specific. I want you to have clarity. I want you to be open. I want you to have fun. But what are the accomplishments? What. Where can you say, I'm proud of this? Just create a list of all the great things that you've done. Where. How you felt good about yourself, how you felt good about how you showed up for a situation, how you responded, reacted differently than you may have in the past, where you showed progress. Not perfection, but progress. All of those areas throughout the Entire year of 2022, proud of achievements, accomplishments. We want to start there, get a good list. Then we go to. I want you to get present in the moment, and I want you to go, okay, where am I feeling good right now? What progress have I been making? And what is creating what I call confidence cash right now? So we're going to get in the present moment and look at this time. So first question is about reflecting on the entire year, what I'm proud of. Accomplishments, achievements. Now I get in the present moment, and that's where I shift to. Okay, as how I feel right now. Where am I feeling good? Where am I feeling that I'm making some progress? And what is giving me cash confidence? So at the time we're recording this, markets are shifting, interest is through the roof, inflation's through the roof, markets or stock markets dropping in certain areas. Real estate's crashing in certain areas. And I put all that in air quotes. But I'm not gonna be dramatic, but there's a shift going on. I'll put it that way. And so when I say, where do you have confidence cash? I want you to remember, confidence cash is not about how much cash you have today. It's about how much confidence you have in your ability to create cash in 2023. So look at that right now, in this moment. I feel good here. I'm making progress here, and this is where I'm feeling some confidence cash. Then we turn and look well into 2023, my friend. And look. Look ahead and go, okay, so now as I look forward in 2023, I just. I can't shut off this excitement. Like, what is keeping you? Giddy is the word that comes to mind for me. Like, I just. I'm so freaking pumped about this. I'm so freaking excited about this. What are. What is that? What are those things for 2023? Where do you just feel, like, off. Off the charts? Like, where I Just, I'm so excited. I. When I think about this thing, whatever it is, or this person, whoever it is, I just, I just got energy flowing through me. Who is that and what does that look like right now? So for me, I'm, you know, I'm stoked on my, on my team at work. I'm stoked in my personal life with the lovely Christy. We're building a home right now that we're, you know, God willing, we're going to move into in 20, 23. We'll see how delays go and how the contracting experience goes. Now on our third, third build of a new home, over the course of what's it been, eight, nine years now, we've built three homes. So. So as we kind of think through that, I just want you to, to think about where, where are you super excited? You know, I'm, I'm excited about my mental health. I'm excited about my physical health. I'm excited about, about navigating whatever changes happen in 23. I'm excited about leading clients in blue collar, leading my individual groups that I work with, elevating consciousness. That's what just drives me. I just gotta get fired up here talking to you about it right now. So what about you allow yourself to go there so that we do this in different prongs of this. So first I remember, I look back at 22 and what are those accomplishments? Where am I proud? Then I get present. Where am I feeling progress? What am I, what am I feeling like, you know, hey, I, I've got confidence in this area right now. This is good. And then I look well into 23. I'm just jamming on this. I'm giddy about this. I'm super stoked about this. What is, what are those things? And then I want you to wrap up the exercise with a few, a few action items. Like never leave a thinking exercise is what I'll call this, never leave a thinking exercise without some action steps. And maybe it's just one or two or three that you want to realize from this reflection, from this awareness right now and from this projection moving forward of what you're going to manifest in 23. What are a couple, two or three things that you can do right now? What is any additional planning you need to do? What are specific activities that you need to engage in, what needs to be done right now, and who is going to help you accomplish that? Remember one of the mantras I live by, my dear mentor, Dan Sullivan, taught me. I agree with him when I say that I can do anything on the planet as long as I'm not the one that has to do it. I just, I'm not a big follow through guy. I don't, you know, Dan says that he, he uses most of his follow through by the time he's taken a shower and shaved in the morning. And I feel, I feel him on that. Maybe some of you can relate. But when I'm in passion, when I'm on purpose, when I'm in purpose on purpose, the game changes for me. When I get to work in my zone of genius, the game changes for me, but that's where I get excitement. And generally in the human experience, that's what we find with the people that we work with. So I want you to think about with those action items and what you're excited about in 23. Even that part of the questions, who's going to help you do these things or who's going to do them for you? Who's going to implement these types of things? Don't let your ego get in the way. Don't get stuck on, oh, I don't want to involve somebody. People want to be involved. People want to help you get what you want. That's, that's how we work collectively. Focus on collaboration, not competition. And 2023 is going to be your best year ever. And hopefully 22 was your best year ever. And we're in this human experience, evolving together, learning what we need to learn each and every moment of every day. We've got to slow down, we've got to take a moment. So, yes, the calendar is saying it's the end of the year. So as your coach and as your host here on Leadership in a Nutshell, I want to tell you, answer these questions for me again. Looking back at 22, what are you proud of? What are those accomplishments? Getting present right now, as you sit, when you do this exercise, where do you feel good? What's the progress you feel you're making? And where do you feel you've got some confidence around cash or creating cash and, and then moving forward into 2023. Where are you giddy? Where are you excited? Who are you jamming on, working with? Who you've gonna enlist to help you and go change the game? This is your life, my friends. There's a calendar flipping the page. It's time to rock. It's time to set some goals. It's time to just continue to elevate your consciousness. And that's why I'm on the planet to help you do this I want to thank you so much for your time. Thank you. Do yourself a favor and actually answer these questions. Write them out. Long form. Write them out. Make it happen. I'll put the questions in show notes and just have some fun with it. Why not? Hey, just do your thing. If you're a wine drinker, pour a glass of wine. Write these things out. If you're a soda water drinker like I am, pour yourself a glass of soda water and knock yourself out. If you're a tea drinker like the lovely Christy, then pour yourself a tea. And if you don't want to drink anything, you don't have to drink anything either. Just do the work. Don't be upset about the work that you don't do and the results you don't get because of that. I honor you. I'm grateful for you. Kick this to somebody else. This time of year. There's a lot of stuff going on out there. Do me a favor and email this episode to somebody that could use just a quick check in to answer a few questions to feel better, to do a little bit of thinking about your thinking and make 23 your best year ever. Ever. Episode 141. We're just talking about a little success setup exercise until we talk which will be next year. Make it a better than fantastic day, week and rest of 2022. I'll see you soon. Thanks everybody.
