Foreign. Hey, my friend, welcome back. Leadership in a nutshell. We're cracking the code of the driven mind, and we are going to talk about the mind specifically today. I'm your host, Kenny Chapman. I'm so honored to have you. I just. I love this opportunity to connect with you and share things that resonate with me. Things that come to me during meditation, things that come to me while doing client work, things that. That come to me while working with my own team. And. And just a chance to kind of get you to take a quick moment, 10, 15 minutes a week and just think about your thinking a little bit. And today, episode 155, the Mind. Servant or master? That's not what it's called. It's. Yeah, servant or master. That's what I want. Hey, here's. Here's how. You know, I don't edit this podcast because I'm like, is that right? Servant or. Yes, servant or master? Because when we think about this and the reason I entitled this, I just recently heard a quote, and I don't know who said it, but it was the mind makes a great servant, but a poor master. So that's why I wanted to title this podcast around this and why I botched the title, because I'm thinking more about what the title means than the title itself. And the fact is, it makes a wonderful. The mind that is makes a wonderful servant, but it makes a really, really poor mast. Most of us are running around with the mind being the master, right? With our mind just going all day long incessantly, just thinking and running and going and worrying and just fixated on. On fear and scarcity and what's wrong with the world. It's just like, oh, my gosh. And I know for me, I didn't really start having the opportunity. Well, I shouldn't say didn't have the opportunity. I've always had the opportunity to awaken at a deeper and a greater level. But for me, I didn't have the awareness yet to awaken. And for me, it took years of this being a servant to my mind, of just thinking that wherever my thoughts were, that's where I was. Whatever I was thinking about defined me. And, oh, my gosh, it just drove me nuts. And what I want you to think about is, you know, I'll paraphrase another quote that we've all heard many times, I love from Albert Einstein when he talked about that you can't solve, you know, a problem or situation that you have from the same level of consciousness that created that problem. And so to me, when I interpret that quote, it's basically, you know, it's, it's Mindstyle. There you go, that's, I'll call him Mindstein. How about that? Einstein was talking about getting out of your head, man. You know, I, I think about get out of your head, get into your greatness. I learned so much about that perspective when I was traveling with Les Brown. And you know, he taught me that you have greatness within you. And I used to think I had to think my way into greatness and I had to just be, you know, bouncing wherever this mind went. And you might be like me. It's one of the reasons that, you know, I kind of subtitled this podcast just thinking about, you know, cracking the code of the driven mind. We have this driven mind. And for me, I realize it's incredible. I realize that I'm so blessed and I'm so grateful to have this driven mind, but I didn't realize the amazing tool that it is. I didn't realize that, you know, I can go get a four cylinder Mercedes and I'm going to get a certain level of performance. If I get a six cylinder Mercedes, I'm going to get a different level. If I get an eight cylinder, I'm going to get a different level. If I go get an AMG Mercedes, I'm going to get an entirely different level. And so those are all just engines. And I think about my mind is like that AMG Benz, right? And it's just like it's highly tuned, it's handcrafted, it's perfectly put together. But if I don't know how to drive, I'm going to crash my bends because I have so much horsepower, I don't know what to do with it. And that's exactly what happens with the mind if we allow it to be the servant. And so I want you to just kind of think about your own thinking today. And where are you showing up, where your mind is serving you and where are you showing up when you are serving your mind? And so I want you to just do this for just a moment here. Just do me a favor, if you're driving, don't do this, okay? If you're anywhere else, if you've got AirPods in or if you can stop for a moment, just close your eyes for one, just for a couple beats here, just close your eyes with me. And I want you to realize what are you thinking right now? Now open your eyes. And I want you to understand that whatever came to mind, okay, for me, when I thought about that, I closed my eyes. I did the exercise with you. So when I closed my eyes and said, what am I thinking about right now? I realized I was thinking about making sure that I deliver the best I can on this podcast episode for you. That was what was in my mind at that moment. I went, oh, I'm thinking about making sure I deliver. So what that means to me and whatever it was that came to you, what I want you to understand, what that means is you are not your mind. You just evidence that you are not your mind because you were able to realize something you're thinking about. So if you're thinking about something and you can see that you are thinking about something, then you're not that thought. And that's when I can step out. And so for me, I go, what am I thinking about? I'm thinking about making sure I deliver the best podcast I can here. And then I go, kenny, let go. Get out of your thought, get out of your head. That's not how you deliver the best podcast. The way you deliver the best podcast is connecting to source energy and allowing the divine to flow through you and say whatever needs to be said. Don't get your head in the way. Come on now. You see what I'm saying? And that's ultimately what it's all about. And yet people are running around all day, every day. We're like ants running around the ant hill, just unconsciously being run by our thoughts. And our thoughts get influenced by the billion dollar distraction industries that are all around us. And you know, just whether it's social media being, you know, paid ads, TV stuff, drama on tv, new, new and different, like just all of the things that are just thrown at you non stop, derail your mind and you start thinking, well, my gosh, do I need to have that? I was just talking about AMGs. Well, do I need the, the new AM. Oh my gosh, Take a breath, chill the heck out and realize this mind is a great tool, but only if you use it as a tool, my friend. And that's where I just, you know, today is really just about awareness for me. For you, it's an opportunity to take that step back and go, okay, you know, wait a minute. And realizing, you know, if you were to take, take a flashlight, let's say, you know, in Colorado they have some basements. There are not many basements out here in Arizona. And if I was to take and go in, go in the basement of my childhood home and flick the light or it's dark down there, Right. So in our particular basement, you had to walk across the way and find the pole chain on the old school fixture in order to get light in the basement. Right. So I take a flashlight down. Now think about a basement, and you go down the stairs, and it's totally dark. And when you shine the light on that object, let's say there's something down there. And let's say there's your old childhood bicycles down there, and it's all dusty and there's cobwebs all over it. But you're shining a light on that bike. Here's what I want you to realize. The flashlight is not that bike, is it? You go, well, obviously, Kenny, of course it's not. It's just showing the light that there's a bicycle there. That's what your consciousness does for your thoughts. And so clearly your mind is not you. You are more in line with the flashlight. You're the one of awareness. You get to see that. So when we bring this to leadership and realize, ah, this technician didn't do what I expected him to do, this call taker is behind on performance. I'm not taking that personally. I'm not saying, oh, my gosh, I'm the bike now, and I'm their performance, and I'm a failure and I suck and all the. No, it's just an object in awareness that, like, oh, okay, well, I need to deal with that. Oh, the bike. Oh, my God, it's all dusty. It's got cobwebs all over it. I'm not the bike that's dusty with cobwebs. I'm just aware it's been there the whole time. I just now shined a light on it. Now I have some awareness that there's an opportunity to do something here. That's all that happens in our leadership life all day, every day. It's going on right now whether you realize it or not. I said that about COVID early on. Like, Covid was happening before we all knew it was happening. Whatever level, whenever you found out, it was already taking place. We were just fat, dumb, and happy, nothing to think about. And all of a sudden, oh, my gosh, what is this? It was already going on. Now we just knew about it. So now we brought consciousness. Now we kicked in fear. Now we got worried. Now we had all these, okay, let's stop that. Let's realize my mind runs all the time it's going. And that's why, for me, personally, I meditate, I take a step back, I consciously catch myself during the day, I realize multiple times a day I'm spinning around on a massive rock in the middle of nowhere in this life that's been around for 14 billion years. And I'm just happen to have a little human experience. It's not that big of a deal. Ah, give that mind a break, baby. Give that mind a break. That's ultimately what it's about. You know, I think about that other Mark Twain. There's a Mark Twain quote, he says, he says, I've, I've really been through some terrible. And I'm paraphrasing again, he says something along the lines. I've been through some really terrible stuff in my life, some of which actually happened. And I want you to think about that from worry. Many of you right now are in a bit of a downturn. There's some callback, you know, callback, call count, pullback and put two words together there or two phrases together. There's been a little bit of pullback in buyer confidence. We've had some bank failure, we've had some market fluctuation, we've had buyer confidence, you know, credit card debts up. So the game's changing, it's shifting a little bit. And if you're worried nonstop now, it doesn't mean that I don't deal with life. It doesn't mean, look, if I've got a call count issue, I've got a call count issue. What I'm saying is I'm going to deal with the call count issue today with the tools that I have, the resources, I have, the best of my ability because I can't look six weeks down the road. Yes, I'm going to do that as far as a plan, but I'm not going to jump there. Of all the what if scenarios, and that's what I really want to share with you today is just realize, you know, the 3:00am anxiety, how productive is it? I know I'm not the only one on the line that gets them 3am Anxiety. Mine used to start around, you know, 2am I sleep better than I ever have, partially because I, I, I shut down. I have a disconnect now, a technology disconnect. And at least, well, I say, at least I try to do. Around an hour before I go to bed, the lovely Christy and I cut off any, any electronics, all of that, we kill the lights other than non blue light bulbs and just shift our minds and we're, you know, and you might be going, well, yeah, you don't have small kids. You're right, I don't if you do, then you have to figure out what it is for you. But I don't. And I'm just sharing what, you know, what I do in order to make my mind more of a servant. So I'm not being the servant to that mind. The mind, as I mentioned that quote, it makes a wonderful servant, but man, is it a destructive master. And so, you know, I don't want you to fight with your mind. I want you to realize your mind is the greatest tool that you have. I mean, as humans think about what we've done with technology and, and, and the good parts of healthcare and longevity and my gosh, we can take, you know, parts and put them together into rockets and go into outer space and building electric cars and autonomous self driving vehicles now and all that. It's amazing what the mind does, but it's not good if it's driving you crazy, if it's driving you to addiction. For me, my mind was making me so crazy, I was utilizing all kinds of distraction techniques by, you know, smoking weed and drinking too much and all the different things like, ah, make it stop. And now I live in a state of bliss because I make it stop consciously, I'm able to give myself space. And when it runs and when I have thoughts, I go, oh, that's not me. Hang on. Get conscious, get conscious, get conscious. One of my early consciousness kind of coaches, if you will, or whatever, he was a life coach that I had, he taught me that as soon as I realized that I'm not in the moment, I'm in the moment. So just think about that. I've done that with a lot of clients over the years. As soon as you realize if you're sitting in traffic and you're cursing the person in front of you, as soon as you realize that you're cursing the person in front of you and that's not doing anything good for you or for them. Now you're aware and now you get an opportunity to change it. Not beat yourself up, not be all pissed that you've fell back into old behavior, just aware, like, oh, okay, well now I get a choice. Is that who I want to be? No, that's not who I want to be. Okay, let's back up. That's it. You're going to constantly, as long as you're on the planet, you're going to have opportunities to learn, to evolve, to embrace this next level of you each and every moment. And you do that by embracing the current level of you, the mind servant or master. My friend. It is your choice. I'm your host, Kenny Chapman. I want to thank you for being here. Please do me a favor and email this episode to somebody. Just share with our community. Share with your community. Our community here. 10, 15 minutes a week.
