15 Nov 2025 · 7 min
This is a short podcast episode (episode 172) by host Kenny Chapman announcing a temporary sabbatical from his Leadership in a Nutshell podcast to reevaluate the show’s direction. He explains he’s taken 172 solo episodes over ~2.5–3 years, may explore video, and outlines three intended benefits of a sabbatical: mental-health rejuvenation, focused personal/professional development, and gaining outside perspective. He frames sabbaticals broadly (from full career breaks to smaller sabbaticals from relationships or habits) and thanks listeners while promising to reassess and return when ready.

Foreign Kenny Chapman here, your host of Leadership in a nutshell, cracking the code of the driven Mind. I want to thank you for being here today and committing a little bit of time, a little bit of purpose and as you continue to derive and seek value in your life, I wanted to record this very brief and very short episode, still leave you with some value, but let you know that I'm going to be taking a bit of a sabbatical from the podcast. So I'm going to take a little bit of a break and reevaluate some things with the show, reevaluate some things around direction that I want to go and just really making sure I'm creating the most value in the most meaningful way, driving the most purposeful engagement and high levels of fulfillment for my own creative outlet as well as for your value creation of the things that you get as we stir your mind, your mindset and the value that you bring to the people that you lead and the things that you do in your life. And so with that, I don't know when I'm going to drop another episode or what that's going to look like, but I just wanted to give you a heads up here. And I viewed this like, you know, I have different viewpoints of sabbaticals and I, you know, I don't really care much about, like, I'm one of those interesting guys as, you know, like words really, really matter and then there's certain things that words don't really matter because words can't really explain them. And so sabbatical is one of those that gets thrown away. I'm going to, you know, maybe you've been a teacher. What is it for? You know, you get tenured and then every seven years you can take a sabbatical. One of my childhood friends, little brothers, he, he became a professor at the University of Oregon and he came down and we went to dinner when he was on his sabbatical as a professor as a time to do more research, to learn to really up level yourself in some of those different things. Different people take sabbaticals because they're flat out burnout and, and they've taken different things. Some people take spiritual or religious sabbaticals and, you know, go to the Promised Land or the Holy Land or do different types of things like that. And I, you know, when I've seen people take long periods of sabbaticals, I, you know, I work very diligently not to judge, not to judge myself, not to judge others. Everybody's having the Experience they need to have. What I learn when I see people take really extended sabbaticals, as I know in my own life situation, I don't want to create a life that I need a vacation from or that I need to take long periods of time away from now when things happen where it's like, hey, I need a break here. And that's all that's happening right now with, with the podcast is, you know, I've. I've. I've done solo cast. I've never had a guest on this show. 172 episodes, you know, two and a half years, whatever, Whatever we've been going on, you know, here. Well, I guess that's over three years, dropping once a week. So I don't even know how long it's been. But I, I just want to shift some things up. And I. And I. I believe in. In the evolution of. Of greatness and the evolution of purpose. So I. While I'm doing the show, I'm having a hard time taking a step back far enough to really reevaluate the show. And so I wanted to give you three. Three things that I think a little bit of a sabbatical and put that in air quotes, if you will, can help you and I. And sabbaticals don't have to be like, I'm walking away from my life and my marriage and my business and my family and my responsibility. It can be, I'm taking a sabbatical from this friendship that doesn't serve me. I'm taking a sabbatical from social media. I'm taking, you know, whatever those are. It can be just little, any area of your life. Maybe some of us could take a sabbatical from, you know, mental suffering. Some of us could take a sabbatical from eating too much pizza. What. Like, whatever. Whatever it is, it can show up in different ways. But three things I want you to think about today. Number one, you can get a rejuvenation and uplevel your mental health. Like, just take it. Take a step back in a certain area where you're, you know, and I don't feel stuck. I love you. I love you that you listen to this show. And I'm excited to continue to build and create. I may do more video things moving forward as well. And so I like being on video and being able to share energy in that direction. So, you know, we'll kind of. We'll reevaluate some of those things. It gives you an opportunity when you take a step back to reevaluate your personal and professional development. And for me, with the show, like I said, I. I'm having a hard time restructuring the show while I'm dropping an episode every week. So I'm just going to take a break, reevaluate, see what I want to do from there and go in that direction. And third, you know, it allows a different insight and perspective. And, you know, it's kind of like that, that old cliche saying, like, you can't, you can't read the label on the jar when you're inside the jar. And many of us. I don't know exactly how that quote goes, but I just made it that. So you might be going, why would I be inside a jar? I don't get that. But you get the point. Like, when you're in the middle of something, it's hard to see it from the outside. Although that's the greatest gift of life is when you just root yourself in conscious awareness and allow experiences to come and go as they will. That's the true gift and that's the true, you know, really, that's. That's core happiness when you're able to do that. And so, like, in this case, I'm in this podcast, I want to step out of it for a minute and look at it and observe it and evaluate. Read the label from the outside a little bit and see what that looks like and how that resonates with me. See what works for you in different areas of your life, whether it's a relationship, whether it's how you spend your money, whether it's how you take your time off, whether it's how you. You do things with your kids. Where might you need a little bit of a sabbatical and a little bit of opportunity to rejuvenate up, level your mental health, maybe take a step back with some personal and professional development to dive in a little deeper and to challenge your insight and perspective to come from a place that you really want to make sure you're coming from. I believe in questioning everything, and I just want to question exactly what I'm doing here, how I'm doing it, if this is the best platform for the most level of value for you as we continue to grow and share and learn together as conscious human beings. That's what I'm doing. So thank you so much for honoring me with your attention for the last 172 episodes. I'm going to get back to the drawing board and do some work and see where this goes, and I hope to be in touch soon. So thank you so much. Last time, give us a like or a review. You never know if it might help. So thank you so much. I honor you. I appreciate you. From the very best in me to the very best in you. Have a better than fantastic week and I'll talk to you soon.
