Kenny Keller warns that helicopter aerobatics kill pilots who aren't specifically trained for them. Most civilian aircraft and training prohibit aerobatics entirely. Don't try maneuvers you see in movies or social media.

And bam. There's one good reason. Day 285, Coffee with Kenny. I'm Kenny Keller, the creator Helicopter airline ground school. If you're specifically trained for aerobatic flight and you're flying a helicopter, that's approved, great. Truth is, most training aircraft aerobatic flights prohibited. So you can't even do it. It's not even legal. Yes, we know helicopter aerobatics are cool, right? And there's a lot of really cool stuff out there. And they perform these things at air shows, and that's great. Nothing wrong with it. Again, for experienced pilots that are trained to do it and in an aircraft that's approved, a lot of stuff you see on TV and YouTube, a lot of things you see just should never happen for less experienced pilots. So let me just basically say we did a video on this on movie and television takeoffs. I'll put a link up above. We also did one on social media takeoffs. A lot of what you see on video is not what we're trained to do. And again, aerobatics are cool, right? And for people trained for it, great. Approved aircraft, great. But for you people that are just getting into it and you're training or a new private pilot, don't be tricked by the stuff that you see on social media and on television. Again, most everything we do, we want to be slow, smooth, methodical. And the stuff they do in aerobatics is stuff that we're trained we should never, ever do. And I can remember I didn't watch a lot of that until after I'd been flying a while. And so you learn all these things not to do. Don't do this, don't ever do that. And then you start watching aerobatic videos and pretty soon you're going, oh, my God, boom. They're doing everything that we're trained not to do, they do. So again, very simple answer for Clarence. Thanks, Clarence, for asking that question. If you're trained for it and it's legal, great. If not, don't do it. So as I mentioned, this was day 285. Coffee with Kenny.
