GTM Engineer (Step-by-Step Guide to $100K+ Career)

A first-person YouTube presentation by Khari Harper explaining how to transition from traditional sales roles into a higher-leverage "sales engineer" or "GTM engineer" role where you build outbound systems that generate qualified leads and booked appointments for clients. The speaker outlines a simple stack (define ICP, build prospect lists, craft outbound messaging, automate follow-up/routing with tools like Zapier/GoHighLevel, send replies to AE calendars), shares concrete short-term campaign results (e.g., 11 calls in 7 days; 9 qualified leads in under two weeks), addresses common objections, and promotes an eight-week BDR Engineer Bootcamp to teach the process.

I'm filming this from Medellin, Colombia right now. And no, I'm not on vacation. This is just life. Now, I work 100% remote and I set my own schedule. And companies pay me anywhere from 300 to $500 to generate appointments, even though I'm not on their team. And I don't even take sales calls. I used to be a BDR. I've done the $100 a day grind. I've had the manager breathing down my neck, chasing quotas, hoping for a promotion. But everything changed when I discovered something most salespeople never figure out. Instead of being inside of someone else's sales machine, what if you became the one who builds the machine? That's what a modern sales engineer does. And in this video, I'm going to break down exactly how I got out of the 9 to 5 trap and started working with companies as a revenue partner, not an employee, and created a system that funds a lifestyle from anywhere in the world. Now, before I explain it all and how it works, I want to show you the shift that changed everything for me. Because if you're anything like I was, you probably think the only way to make good money in sales is to either land a corporate SDR or AE job, get good enough to close deals for someone else, or grind away as a commission only setter and hope you hit. But here's the truth. All those models are low leverage. You're trading time for money. You're always at the mercy of a comp plan, your manager, and your ability to close sales engineering flips that completely. Instead of taking sales calls, instead of chasing pipeline, I build systems that generate qualified leads and books appointments automatically. And because companies need appointments, they don't care how it gets done as long as it shows up on the AES calendar. So rather than being on payroll, I get paid per result, not per hour, not per sales call. I just get paid for the system that runs and the appointments that it books and the then boom, I'm paid. Now, real quick, let me show you exactly what I mean when I say build a system. It's not some complicated software or custom coded funnel. It's just a simple, powerful stack that looks like this. We define your ideal customer profile, aka your ICP. We build a prospect list using LinkedIn, Clay, YC, Apollo, whatever fits. We write the outbound messaging, cold emails, LinkedIn DMs, maybe even cold call scripts. We automate the follow up and the routing using tools like Zapier and Go high level. And when someone replies or Books. It goes straight to the AES calendar. And that's it. You're not selling, you're not begging. You're just engineering the system that delivers sales conversations to the businesses that need them. And look, I get that it might still sound complex, but this isn't hard. If you know how to use Google Sheets, send emails and follow a checklist, you can do this. When I started, I didn't know anything about automation. I just followed the process piece by piece until the first meeting was booked. And then once that happened, everything changed. And I mean everything. Because now I had proof that I could deliver. And when you can deliver, you can charge. When you can charge, you can choose your clients. When you can choose your clients. And then you control your time, your income and your lifestyle. So let me say something real quick. Every company on earth needs booked appointments. It doesn't matter if you sell software, real estate, consulting, coaching, whatever. If there are no calls on the calendar, the business dies. You can have the best product in the world, but if no one knows it exists, you're going to fail and you're going to fail fast. Book calls are the lifeblood. Sales processes are the engine. Most business owners are amazing at what they do, but they have no idea how to generate consistent and qualified leads. That's where you come in. Because if you can build the engine that feeds them, they'll gladly pay you for every lead that shows up. Because without you, they. They're stuck. The truth is, this model solves every pain I had as a sales rep. No more asking for pto. No more praying that the comp plan doesn't change. No more being tied to one company. Because now I'm not an employee. I'm a systems builder. I don't need to chase inbound leads. I create them. I don't need to rely on referrals. I turn blank Google sheets into a pipeline. And once you know how to do that. And you'll never depend on anyone ever again to feed you leads, to give you permission, or to tell you when to work. Now, I don't want you to just take my word for it. Let me show you what this looks like in real life. In one campaign I built for a digital marketing agency, I booked them 11 sales calls in the first seven days using cold email and LinkedIn. It's right here. The client was blown away. Another was a fractional CFO offer. High ticket, super niche. We booked nine qualified leads in under two weeks. And in my own outbound system, I consistently get booked to build these Engines from clients in SaaS, B2B services, consultants, and even local businesses like this one. Naturally, people have questions about this model. So let me rapid fire the big ones I hear all the time. How do I find clients? Same way you book meetings for them. The system I teach is the system I use. I've never done cold email or automation before. Perfect. We're going to cover all that inside the bootcamp step by step. You don't need to be technical, you just need to follow the process. Next, do I need a personal brand or a huge network? No. This isn't content marketing. This is outbound marketing. You can do this completely anonymous if you wanted to. What if a lead doesn't close? That's not your job. Your only responsibility is to book qualified meetings that show up to the sales call. If the closer drops the ball, that's on them. Isn't this the same as appointment setting? Not even close. Appointment setters are employees. Sales engineers build and own the system. You're a vendor, you get paid more. You control the deal and can run multiple clients at once. So now you've seen it. The skill, the system, the lifestyle it creates. You've got two choices. You can go back to refreshing job boards, trying to impress recruiters and hoping someone gives you a shot, or you can learn how to build the machines companies need to survive. And that's what we teach inside the BDR Engineer Boot camp. It's an eight week program where I'll walk you through, step by step, through everything I just showed you, from zero skills to a fully built outbound engine. So you can run from zero skills to a fully outbound engine. You can run as your own business. No degree, no technical background, no sales experience required, just willingness to learn and execute. If that's you, apply below in this video and let's build your escape plan and engineer a career that actually works for you. And lastly, I'm going to be making so many more videos about sales engineering. There should already be videos happening. So just click the YouTube link below, go on my channel, see what other resources I have there. If you're not ready for the bootcamp, if you want to learn more, whatever you need to do, I promise, if you want to have the ability to travel, it all starts here. But you have to take the step into learning how to build these sales processes. Because it's funny, a lot of people ask me all the time, how do I acquire clients? You're going to acquire clients the same way you would acquire appointments for your clients. If that makes sense. So the machine that we build for you or that you build for yourself is going to be the exact same machine you're going to plug and play into your client's business. Listen, this is simple. Sign up for the Bootcamp below or apply to, depending on the time you're watching this video. Or just go watch more YouTube videos and see if it's a fit for you, because I'm going to be breaking this stuff down into more detail. All right, I'll see you on the other side.
