In this brief first‑person account, the speaker— a software engineer— recounts his entry into real‑estate syndication. In 2019 he led his inaugural syndication of a 172‑unit apartment complex, raising $3.5 million of the $4.3 million target. While handling the deal he relied on DocuSign and Google Sheets, which he found painfully inefficient given his engineering background. Recognizing an opportunity, he began developing a dedicated software platform on the side about four years ago. The effort grew to the point where he quit his engineering job and applied to Y Combinator, the famed Silicon Valley startup accelerator, to turn the prop‑tech solution into a full‑time venture.
