before you even begin.

The anxiety before working out usually comes from overthinking, not the workout itself. Simple resets like stretching, lighter weights, or just walking around help. Progress isn't linear, and consistency means listening to your body and adapting when life changes.

Hello. Gym or workout anxiety usually doesn't come from the workout itself. It comes from overthinking, especially the moment you walk in and your mind starts racing. The moment right before you walk in or right after where you suddenly feel hyper-aware of everything that's around you. I'll walk into the gym and I'll realize that I forgot what I had planned to do. And so I take a moment to stretch and reset. And sometimes I choose lighter weights than I used before and notice that voice in my head asking questions that don't matter at all. Other days I skip a machine entirely because I don't feel like figuring it out right then and there. And maybe your version of that looks a little different. Maybe you stay on your phone longer than you need to. Maybe you walk around pretending you know exactly what you're doing, or you almost leave before you even get None of that says anything about discipline or effort. It's simply part of being there. It's part of being human in a space that can feel uncomfortable sometimes. Even on days when I genuinely want to work out, starting can feel heavy. And that heaviness doesn't mean anything is wrong or that I'm behind. Most of the time, it means my body and mind are communicating something, and learning to listen to that has changed my life. Changed how I approach movement. I also realized that gym isn't a performance space. No one is keeping score. Most people are focused inward, thinking about their form, their progress, or their own uncertainties. Everyone is engaging in their own way. Everyone you see in there has had a first day feeling too. Progress doesn't move in a straight line. Some weeks I feel stronger, other weeks feel different. Either way, it all counts. Consistency doesn't have to look intense where we're all doing the cardio and weights every single day. It can look like staying connected to your body, resting when you need to, adjusting when life changes, and keeping the door open. One thing that has helped me with that is having structure so every workout doesn't turn into a negotiation in my head, and that's why I've been using Trainwell, today's video sponsor. Trainwell is a one-on-one remote personal training service, and what I appreciate most is how grounded it feels. And if you've ever felt overwhelmed trying to figure it all out on your own, you don't have to anymore. Trainwell provides real human accountability and expert personalization through a convenient app. When I started, I took a short quiz about my fitness goals, my experience level, and the kind of coaching style I prefer. Based on that, Trainwell matched me with my My trainer, Jill. We had a video call where we talked through my goals, my schedule, and what feels sustainable to me. Inside the app, everything is clear. When I open it, I can see when I have an upcoming workout and exactly what my plan is for the day, so I'm not standing there wondering what to do or overthinking where to start. My trainer set up 3 different workout routines for me. 2 are part of my main workout plan, and the 3rd is a backup routine that focuses more on walking and stretching for days When my schedule is busier. Having those options makes it easier to stay consistent because I don't feel like I have to skip the day entirely. It removes that all-or-nothing pressure we tend to put on ourselves. And after each workout, I can leave feedback about how I feel and log things like my energy level, my happiness, sleep quality, and confidence. My trainer sees that and adjusts the plan based on what is working and what isn't, which makes the process feel really personalized. Good adjustment.
