Gen Z workers are ditching the traditional career ladder for side hustles. A poll of 1,000 side hustlers found 51% feel hopeful and 34% feel empowered. They want control over their pay and time instead of waiting for promotions that might never come.
Today's Job Alert is about younger workers.
As CBS 17's Bill Young explains, this generation isn't waiting for the opportunities to come to them.
Gen Z, people who are younger than 28, would rather build a side hustle or hustles than wait for a promotion. Patriot Software polled 1,000 people who either currently have or previously had a side hustle. 51% say this side hustle makes them feel hopeful about the future. 49% feel motivated. 34% feel empowered by the work they do outside their traditional job. Nearly 20% say they took on the extra job to pursue a passion in addition to the money. Rachel Blakely Gray is a small business expert at Patriot Software who said Gen Z would rather take control of their pay and time and not wait for a promotion or economic uncertainty to bring in extra cash.
