Black Mountain Honey: Let's Talk Bees At The Beekeeping SHOW - Episode 14

In this 45‑minute live stream, Laurence Edwards guides viewers through the bustling 2023 Beekeeping Show, offering a real‑time tour of the exhibition hall packed with UK and European beekeeping suppliers. He showcases a wide range of equipment—from massive Lyson/Abello honey extractors and premium uncapping machines to innovative hives such as hemp‑crete and cedar models, bee suits, queen‑rearing tools, and treatment devices like BBQX and Thermomite. Throughout the tour he provides candid commentary on product size, price, and practicality, emphasizing the value of physically testing gear before purchase. Edwards also shares logistical advice for prospective attendees, including ticket QR‑code entry, early‑arrival strategies, and the importance of engaging with vendors and fellow beekeepers. The stream is informal, enthusiastic, and clearly positioned as a personal, unpaid endorsement, aiming to encourage viewers to attend the show and make informed buying decisions.
Chapters
Excellent, you can hear me. That is all I need. So we are at the beekeeping show. I've been here for about 3 hours and it is carnage. Oh my goodness, absolutely jam-packed full of traders. Everyone's getting ready and I've been going around doing videos today and I've nearly lost my voice. So if you come in here tomorrow, definitely come and say hi, but if I've got a little bit of a husky voice, then you will need to understand that I have been talking Nonstop. So hello everyone, I will answer as many questions as I possibly can here. I've got about half an hour, 45 minutes. This isn't going to be a very long one. I'm going to take you around, I'm going to show you some of the stalls. Don't worry though, you're not going to get a really great detailed look at all the equipment here, but I have taken a lot of videos. I've done some super mega extractors, I've done some beehives, I've done some bee suits, been talking about queens, been talking to lots and lots of different people here today. And the first thing I need to say, I guess, is just make sure you're coming to the beekeeping show tomorrow. This is one not to be missed. Richard Knoll just texted me, said he's landed at Birmingham Airport, came here. I've seen Griff, I've seen Marco, I've seen Damien, I've seen Murray McGregor. Paynes are here, BS Honeybees are here, Abello, Lyson, Thorns. Got Stone Beehives, Hemp Creek Beehives. Every single person, it's a who's who of beekeeping. And I'm here as well, so, you know, even the kind of paupers have to come. Right, we're going to have a little tour around. So behind me you can see we've got Lyson and Abello. They must be taking up 20 meters of space here. You've never seen anything like it. Let me count the extractors. I've got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, probably 20 different extractors here. I've also got an extractor that I very nearly bought, which is a 12/24 frame Swing cage extractor. And you know what, I'm so glad I didn't buy it because it is the size of a bus. That's the benefit of these kind of shows here. You look on the websites and you think, that looks perfect, gives you the information, it's going to spin the honey frames out. But if I'd have gone and bought that just off the website, it would have turned up, it's 270 kilos, it took 6 people to lift it, and you know, I wouldn't have even got it through the door. You can come to a beekeeping show like this and you can come and see some stuff. So enough of me waffling. I haven't got my tea today, but I do have a bottle of squash because I've just been talking nonstop. So I'm gonna have a little sip of that. If you enjoy this stream, if you enjoy this video, please do give it the thumbs up. Really much appreciated. First stop then, we're going to go to the Abello Lyson stand and we're going to go and take a look at possibly the biggest extractor I have ever seen. So bear with me, there'll be a little bit of wobble while I move the camera around. Give me 2 secs. Right, so there we go. Hopefully that has sorted out a little bit, that stream. It's a bit dark in here, so I'm a bit pixelated. But take a look at this extractor. Now, I've never seen in my life— and I hope you can hear me from this far where I do have my mic on— look at the size of this extractor. It comes literally up to kind of my waistline. And oh my goodness, how good is this? Folds fully over like that. And as I said, I've done a full video on this. I've done tons of videos here, so you will get to see a really good close-up of all of these. But I just can't believe how big this extractor is. Love the fact that that falls flat like that as well. Oh, got a magnetic catch. That extractor there, normally £8,200, and at the beekeeping show it's £6,950. So I probably won't be able to fit that one back in the, in the back of the pickup truck. Probably won't be able to strap it to the back of the pickup truck either. How cool is that? Massive, massive extractor. And I will double down on what I said, is that I, I've been so close to buying that extractor on 3 occasions now, just by talking to Damien, just by ringing up and looking on the website and saying, you know what, I need that extractor. Size of it, it's way too big for me, way too big for me. But for someone else, that is going to be the best extractor you have ever seen. Right, I'll swing the camera around this way a bit. So uncapping machines, and this is like, there's good sides and there's bad sides of beekeeping shows. The good side is you get to see all the brand new equipment, and the bad side is you get to see all the brand new equipment. And I kind of look at this uncapping machine and I'm thinking, bloody hell, like, that's way better than my uncapping machine. I bought my one 3, 3 and a half years ago. It was the Classic line, and there's a couple of things about it that it works fine, it's It works fine, but this one's so much better. So this one here, we've got the Lyson premium uncapping machine. Got the unboxer near it so you can put your boxes there, slide it along, boxes get lifted up, runs through on a chain-fed mechanism. 10 times better than what I've got, which is a gravity-fed mechanism. And even better than that, again, I can't give you the close-ups on here because it's just going to be so like really bad clarity. I have done a video on it, but on this one here, not only does the uncapping knives uncap and take the wax cappings off, but it's also got riving knives so that when the frames go through, if there's any wax that sits below the line of the frame, the riving knives will take that off. And it means that you're never like messing around with a knife trying to clean up the frames. That is 3 huge improvements over that. So as I said, it's great because you get to see all the new bits. It's also bad because you get to see all the new bits. I'd really, really want to upgrade. Right, can't be accused of favouritism. I'll go away from the Lyson Abello one in a little bit, but check out all these hives. Like, have you ever seen so many cool Abello and Lyson beehives in your life? I absolutely love it. So final little look for you. That is the Lyson and the Abello stand. I'm going to go over here now and I'm going to take a look at some of the other stands. Now I've got some very official people behind me there, so I will be quiet. So this stand that I'm at here now, this is the Modern Beekeeping stand, and for everybody who's interested, this one here is the Paradise Honey Smart Beehive System. It's here, it's at the Beekeeping Show. I've done a video on that showing exactly how it works. Hopefully I'm going to get to take that one home, have a few goes on it, and see how it runs throughout the season. Really excited to see that though, and again, when the new developments and the new products come out, So much better to be able to actually physically go there, touch it, feel it, play with it, try not to break it, and, uh, and then make your decision based upon that, as opposed to maybe watching a video or seeing what's on the website and getting stuff and then realizing what you bought is absolutely rubbish. I've not seen any rubbish in here yet. Really, really excited. Right, let's go somewhere else. I'll show you something cool over here. Right, so I've just, I've just walked past these guys here. B Bay, the BBQX. I'm so excited to go and see what that is. Do you want to, want to tell us what it is? We're doing a live stream on YouTube. Have you? Yeah, go on. What have you got behind you? It's a game changer. It's a game changer. Absolutely a game changer if you're applying treatments for varroa or anything else. You have to dismantle the hive to get down to the brood box. This device, the BBQX, BeeBae Queen Excluder, you can treat liquid treatments, pad treatments. You don't have to dismantle the hive. Look at our website, BeeBae dot— BeeBae hyphen— BeeBae.com. BeeBae.com. Got to remember your website. It's BeeBae.com. Definitely take a look at it. I'm going to come and have a look at that tomorrow. I'll continue with my live stream. I am a beekeeper, yeah. Look at it. I will do. You'll love it. I will do. I love new things, so there we go. This is here to stay, this one. Okay, there we go. I've just been, I've just been sold something. Definitely getting one of those. Right, next up we've got the Stone Apiary. I've already spoken to Ross. I've secured one of these going away today. He's got his standard concrete perlite beehives there. He has also got the world's first hempcrete beehive. That's what I'm going to be taking home with me, and it is here. I'm going to lift one of the roofs up because if you remember with the concrete beehives They were so heavy, really, really heavy, but they were good fun. But if they could be made lighter and a little bit more robust, they would have been even better. So I'm going to show you this now. So that is a hempcrete lid, and I can kind of lift that. You know, I'm not going to work out too much on it, but that is considerably lighter than the concrete version, and I'm going to be taking this one home. Right, I'll try and put that one back without breaking it. I'm going to move on and see what else I can find. Right behind me, I have no idea whose stand this is, what company. I've never seen it before. It's called the Beavac in a bucket. Look at that. I don't want to be messing around with someone's stool, but that feels really solid. I love it. Got a connection on the side there. Let's, let's open it up, see if we can get inside it. Ah, I can't get inside it. I don't want to break it. But how cool is that? A bee vac. I've never seen a bee vac for sale in the UK, and with all the bees and swarms that people are letting off into people's chimneys That could be a game changer. So maybe, maybe we'll get one of those and see if we can snap ourselves up a little bargain. Let's carry on going. No, let's keep on going around. There is so many things here to do, it's amazing. People are like looking at me thinking I'm absolutely crazy, but let's carry on a little bit. So maybe you could walk or talk at the same time. Do you want to come on a live stream quickly, say hello? Hello. 2 of the 3 wise men here, got Alex and Rob. Sorry, I'm wearing the mic. Do you just want to tell everyone why it's going to be the best show ever tomorrow? People work really, really hard today. The venue, you know, the team here, the people with the stands, they're working really hard to make sure it's really good. We're really pleased with the amount of support we've had for the event. The hall's packed. Um, you know, we think it's going to be a really lively event and we hope everyone enjoys themselves tomorrow. And we've got all the main UK suppliers here, and as Lawrence has probably shown you, we've got a lot of our European friends here exhibiting as well. So for anyone that's thinking about buying any kit, you have a huge amount here to come and see, so please come. So I'll just, I'll just fix my mic back on there and I'll completely echo what Rob and Alex have just said there, which is everybody's here. There isn't anybody who's worth being here that isn't here. I've not done Thorn yet. I've not done Swenty. I've not done Thomas Apiculture. I've not done Carl Fritz. I've not done Murray McGregor. I've not done Pains. I've not done BB Ware. I've not done BJ Sheriff. Everybody is here. And as I said before, there's nothing better than getting in there, touching, feeling that machinery, feeling those polyhives, feeling those beehives, and and making your decision based upon actually being there and feeling it. There's only one place to do that, that is the Beekeeping Show. Cheers, guys. Right, we'll carry on. So everyone should know this one, BB Wear Ultra. That is why, by far and away, my favourite bee suit. They've got tons of stuff here. Really excited to meet up with those guys again. Always nice to see people in person. Behind them in a sea of green polystyrene, and over there the same green polystyrene from pretty much the same factory, I'm pretty sure, which is Payne's over there and BS Honeybees here. They're my favorite nuc. As long as you're putting the metal divider in, that is my favorite nuc. There is not going to be a single one of those left, without a shadow of a doubt. They are definitely going to be gone. It's like a mirror image, isn't it? So same on this side here, we've got the Paynes. Really love the Paynes stuff. You know, when I go in and I feel the Paynes, the poly density, the wall thickness, really good. And what I love as well is they're constantly updating stuff. So as we said in our previous videos, you've got a Paynes Poly Nuc, had a bit of a thin lid and it maybe caused some issues of condensation, and then they've upgraded it and they've made it thicker. I'm only calling it over because Paul's going to come over here really quickly and he is also just going to give a little plug for the beekeeping show. Oh God, hello, how we doing? Uh, is this alive? Yep. Oh dear. So hi everybody. Um, well, we're about just about set up now and, um, I don't even know what— What, what, why— if people, if people are sitting at home tonight thinking, oh, I might come or I might not come, yeah, why should they come? They should come because we have the biggest and the best here. Simple as. You— there's everything you could want to see, everything as a new beekeeper you'd want to see. You know, you've got new kit that's not been seen before. Um, come and get your hands on it, come and see it, come and see what it's like, see what— see if it's for you. You know, that's the important thing, you know, to look at it. Exactly that, Geoff Paul. I'll carry on. Thanks so much. See you later. Thank you. Nice one. Totally unscripted, this, right? We've done Paynes, we've done Paul Beardmore, we've done all of the Beekeeping Show original founders. Oh, I'll tell you what, we'll go over here. I did say I'll come and have a look over here. I am going to show you everything, so we're not going to stop until we finish absolutely every single one, and then I'm going to go and I'm going to have a beef burger, I think. Right, so we are at the National Bee Supply stand here. They only use Western red cedar. They reckon it's the best in the world. The beehives here do look amazing though. Got a National Brood Box. I've got a National— no, I've got a WBC. Made out of Western red cedar. And then if you can see behind, directly where I'm pointing there, love what they're doing here, which is they're trying to be a little bit more sustainable, reduce all of the waste, and they've gone away and they're making like kind of offcut stuff with the cedar, making little beehive bits, making wine holders, making bird boxes. Some of the stuff there is really, really cool. Right, so we carry on. I feel a bit bad doing BB Ware if I've not done BJ Sheriff, because BJ Sheriff have got some amazing suits as well. So let's go and have a look at them. Sorry if I'm missing anyone's comments. It is, it is carnage, absolute carnage here, but we're all having good fun. Right, 15 minutes in. BJ Sheriff up there with the very, very best beekeeping suits in the UK. Absolutely rock solid. People say they've got the best visors, best ability to see through them. They're here. I love it. Everyone's here. I know I sound like an advert, and it kind of is a little bit of an advert because I'm so excited to be here, but no one's paying me. No one's paying me. I'm not paid for this. I'm not told to say it's amazing. I'm just like a, like a little child, like a little boy in a sweet shop, um, with no money. Like, I do not have any money and I'm not allowed to steal anything, so I just get to look and touch and kind of see what it's about. Right, we'll go somewhere else. Where should we go next? Right, we're gonna go and have a look at Pains again. Pains will be in the background. Right, let's have a look here. Right, so as you can see, people still stacking stuff up. Mellow Bees do queens, do beehives, do nucs. Got lots of feed in the place as well. Marco is coming into screen now. He might give us a wave. He's not giving us a wave. Right, we'll go somewhere else. Right, let's go to something else that's very, very fun and very new. And as we said before, you can't do this on a website. You can't do it on a video. You don't get to see everything like this. So there we go. Instant Vap. Instant Vap are here. That's not been about in the UK for that long at all. And they're here. They're going to do some demonstrations. I'm not sure what they're going to demonstrate it with. Maybe they've got like a safe alternative. I hope they're not going to do it with oxalic acid. I know they're not going to do it with oxalic acid. But they're here. Just goes to show that all the new technology is here. Got some things I've never seen before, like that B-bay over there. Never seen it before. This one here, I bought one of these. I can vouch for them. They are absolutely amazing. And we get to have a look at it. You get to talk to the manufacturers. I know it's a reseller in the UK, but you get to talk to them and give you some tips, show you how to make things work, and just give you general advice. Right, let's go and find some new stuff. Aha, the GasFab! Right, GasFab is here as well. This is a live stream. So say hello. There we go, we're with the original oxalic acid. You're not ready yet, it's fine. Everyone knows the GasVap. I've had a couple of GasVaps, they work really, really well. Different from the InstantVap in that they don't cost anywhere near as much, and there's nothing that can really go wrong with it in terms of electrics. We all know the GasVap, really good. Cheers, guys. Cheers. Right, sorry, I'm following, following people around. Hello, how you doing? Right, Northumberland Honey Company, one of my favorite stands at the shows is always Northumberland Honey Company because, you know, they sell, they sell queens, they sell nucs, but they sell mead as well. And they bring their mead and they bring their honey along and it always sells out. It's a great thing. Who would have thought you could sell honey to beekeepers? They bring it every single time and they always sell out, so really like that. Next to them you've got Andamat UK. I've worked with them before. You've got Oxivar, Thymivar, and Formic Pro. 3 very different methods of controlling mites. One that's thymol, one that's oxalic acid, one that's formic acid. Nice to have all of those there. Nice to be able to talk to them about how you apply the treatments. So again, this might not kind of float everyone's boat, but it definitely floats my boat. which is like cosmetics, Bee Cosmetics. I love messing around and kind of making, making stuff that just turns into lip balm. Everything becomes lip balm for some reason. But these guys here, they're making stuff and they do it properly. I always love having a look around at these, and it's good for buying presents. Can't go to a beekeeping show and not like buy your wife a present, can you? So I will definitely be having a look at that. Busy Bee Cosmetics. I suggest if you're coming, you do the same. We'll have a little spin round here, dodge the tea that's on the floor. Right, Lysen, Paradise Honey, Zucan, Colfritz are all there, and we're still yet to get round there. Like, I'm kind of doing like the back aisle at the moment. We've still got so many vendors to go. All right, I'm just going to read this one straight off for you. Thermomite, the world's first and only Power 3 thermotherapy treatment for varroa. How cool is that? I definitely want to have a go. So interested and excited to meet the guys tomorrow and talk about this product. Right, next up, not sure if you can read it, Cadden Hives. That's where I bought my first beehive from. Absolute very first beehive was Cadden Hives. I was really happy with it, amazing quality. They're always at every single show and they do the best, best wooden beehives. Right, sorry for the shaky footage. We're jumping around a little bit now. You can see this one here. We've got Wainwright's Bee Farm. They've come along as well, and again, they're selling honey. This is great. Bet you any money there is no honey left at the end of tomorrow because who would have thought you could sell honey at a beekeeping show? Always sells really well. And Wainwright is famous for one of my favourite marketing ploys. very recent marketing ploy as well, but it is superb, which is heather honey naturally crystallises into a very coarse, crunchy state, and it's generally perceived to be like, oh, heather honey's gone crunchy. They're selling it in Marks& Spencer's and marketing it as crunchy honey, and it's like one of their best sellers. And some people might look at that and think, oh, you're pulling the wool over people's eyes. I look at that and think that is brilliant marketing. Hats off to whoever thought about that. Crunchy honey, And it's one of Marks and Spencer's best sellers. Right now, everybody's going to recognize that one there. We've got Gwyneth Griffith. He's got his stand there. Amazing. He's with Lapid Feeds, I think today or tomorrow, and he's helping them. So he's selling their feeds through his website, gwynethgriffith.co.uk. Until I'm not Welsh, great to see him here. I actually met him for the first time in person. Today we shook hands, he was in his funky yellow car, it was really, really good fun. I've also had a message from Richard Knoll who landed in Birmingham, he is on his way, so as I said, everyone's coming, it's going to be great fun. Right, so, right, so just as the Lyson and the Abello stand took over the whole side over there, Equally, as you can see there, you've got the Thorn that are taking up the whole side over here. Just incredible, really incredible stand. I'm going to go inside. Well, I'll tell you what, I'll put this screen down here a bit. You can see those amazing top bar hives. Like, I don't have a top bar hive, I want this top bar hive. It is so cool. Got a WBC hive assembled there and then a nice painted white WBC hive. Let's go and see what else Thorns have got. I get told off for calling them thorns. It is Thorn. Let's go and see what Thorn have got. Right, so we have got a table completely full of like silicone wax molds. They are so cool. I don't do much with wax molds and I've got a lot of wax and I really should do it. I just don't have a huge amount of time. But look how cool they are. Like, see if I can focus on that. Really, really nice. Definitely going to have to have a go at doing some of these. Oh, Drew W has just said it's a good quality stream considering it's in a big hall. I'm really glad you said that because I was concerned that it was going to be rubbish, but it's got like commercial-level Wi-Fi in here and I don't think anyone's hooked up to it yet. So great idea doing the stream tonight. Right, let's go and look at some more highlights. Actually, I can do it from here. If you want foundation, the Thorn store is where you need to go. That is going to sell out tomorrow. Last chance to shop 2022 prices. I said it on my video earlier that will be released probably later next week. You've got Langstroth, you've got Daydent, you've got commercial, you've got wired, you've got non-wired, you've got flat, you've got thin— every single iteration of foundation that you can imagine is on that stall there. And also what Thorn bring, and a number of other suppliers here bring, is the wax conversion. That's one of the big benefits, I think, to coming to these events, and probably one of my favorite activities as well. I think I might have to do a little bit of a stream or a video of that tomorrow, which is going and seeing what people are bringing in to kind of convert in terms of their wax, because some people bring in beautiful pristine blocks of wax and some people bring some real Dross. But you know what, they tend to accept it, so I would say bring the dross. Don't worry about filtering it out too much. I've seen some horrific blocks that have come in and been traded, and they tend to just chuck them in, chuck them in the back of the van, and they go on like that. Right, I need to stop for breath. I'm going to do 2 more Thorn things because it is such a big store, and then we'll go and look at— oh, then we'll go and look at some of the European manufacturers because that is really exciting stuff. Right, um, without a doubt my favorite, uh, honey smoker. So my favorite bee smoker. They do 2 sizes of these, they're called an Empire Smoker. And why I like them so much is that it's not like really, really tight there, but you get such good work on the bellows and it's just in and out, works really nicely. Get the bigger one though, I always go for the extra super large one. get the basket in it as well. I like to go for the stainless steel version, but there is no denying, is there, that the copper version looks super cool. So I kind of want a copper version to go on my desk. Um, there was a, there was a company over there, I'm not sure who it is, I think it's Modern Beekeeping, do a mini bee smoker. It is like the size of a pack of fags. It's literally the size of a pack of fags, and it's just the cutest thing ever. So I definitely want one of those. I need to go and start like buying stuff before it all runs out tomorrow. Let's go and look at some of the European manufacturers that are here: Carl Fritz, Thomas Apiculture, Sienti, and I've probably forgotten someone else as well. But let's go and find out and see who they are. Well, I just couldn't resist. But before we do that, look at this: a national hive with a painted, yeah, but with a copper roof. That's like the best looking hive I think I've ever seen. Just just a national hive, a copper roof made from Canadian thorn. Very nice. Oh, right. Sorry, I'm getting carried away here now. Got more beehives to talk about. So here we've got a Drayton hive. £795. £795, but look at that, that's cool. Got some, I think these are like baskets full of wood chip, so you put your wood chip in and it's to help with condensation, I guess. Got a little booklet, loving that, that looks cool. Right, I'm going to carry on. I'm hoping everyone's enjoying it. I'll tell you what, I'm going to do one more thing for Thorn because they have brought more frames than you could ever imagine. I'm getting, I'm getting dodgy looks by everyone now because they want to go to the, to the pub or to their hotel and I'm just doing live streams. Look at all these frames, right? Let me just kind of get that down again. Look at all those frames. The smell here of the pine is amazing, and then further behind all of the boxes, the cedar. I love the smell of cedar, smells like sweets. So I'm very, very excited. I've left my squash on the other side of the room, so I'm just going to have to carry on with a really dry mouth. I will carry on though while I'm walking. As I said, if you're here tomorrow, you see me, just come and say hi. I'll say hi to as many people as I possibly can. Right. Oh, RKV has donated £1. Thank you very much, that's very kind of you. Any donations gratefully received, any thumbs up gratefully received as well. So behind me here I've got Thomas Apiculture, French company who do a lot of honey extraction machinery, a lot of beekeeping equipment. Some really, really nice stuff here. So what have we got here? We've got that. We do it so you can see it. Thank you, Lynn, for the thumbs up. Much appreciated. So here we go. We've got some nice honey extractors here. And as I said before, there's nothing better. I know I'm going to repeat myself a bit for some people. There's nothing better than coming and trying these out. So say I'm in the market for an extractor, and I'm going to be as vague as that. I want to buy myself. An extractor. I don't know whether I want a radial extractor, a tangential extractor, a swing cage extractor, an 8-frame, a 10-frame, a 20-frame. I don't know how big it's going to be. Like that one that I looked at before, I was dead set on that because, you know, this is going to sound really bad, but I thought I want the best extractor that there possibly is. It's a 12x24 frame from Lyson. Like, that was the one I was going to get because it looked good, and it's way too big. Absolutely huge. Anybody who's coming tomorrow, go and take a picture next to it. It is the size— it's bigger than a Mini. absolutely vast. But I'm talking, going off on one now, aren't I? The best thing though is coming here with an open mind. So I'm, I'm actually in the market. I've sold my extractor, somebody's bought it off me. So I'm in the market for a new extractor, change the way that I'm doing my heather honey, moving away from tangentially extracting it in a swing cage using a loosener, going with a hydro press. So I don't need a swing cage basket anymore. So I'm here looking around thinking, what extractor am I going to get? And I was saying to Damien, like, well, yeah, I'll go with the 30 frame, and he's convinced me to go with the 42 frame. Pretty much the same price, and they're only like 100mm extra in terms of diameter. So I'm really happy that I'm here. I'm playing around with them. I'm seeing what's best. And, uh, are you okay? Yeah, I think I stepped in some tea or something. Right, let's go and have a look at some more stuff. So there we go, we've got all the Thomas Apiculture stuff there. Right, so let's go and have a look at Swemti. This is one of the ones that I'm so excited about, but we're Loads of Suyenti gear. People are saying hello in the background. But Suyenti are world-renowned for their equipment, like especially their honey extraction equipment. I've got some Suyenti beehives as well, but the Suyenti honey bottling machines are generally the go-to piece of equipment that you'll get for bee farmers. Most people will use this one, and I don't know anybody who's got one of these that said anything negative about it. I only ever hear really, really positive stuff, and they brought all of the different iterations with them. So if you're coming, you can go and look at the Lyson ones, you can look at the Suyenti, you can look at the Carl Fritz, you can work out like sizes, you can bring a tape measure with you. This is always my favorite thing, is like, you know, work out what the dimensions of things are, and then you can come and work out if it's going to suit you okay. So all of the Suyenti stuff's here. We've got extractors, we've got Suyenti polyhives, got bottling machines, we've got We've got a loosener. I might go and have a look at that heather loosener, compare it to my one. We've got a— forget what they're called. I'm gonna say a Meliflow. It's not a Meliflow though, is it? Appi Melter. Let's go and have a look. Let's go and have a look at the loosener and the Appi Melter, because this— can we have a look at your heather loosener? Yes. Yeah, let's get it in. Okay, we have a go. Yeah, not too much, not too much, because I— this one needs to go down, and if you push— okay, okay, when it's up, right, I will not— I'm not— I can't break the needles. So it's live stream, can't break the needles. But very, very nice. You can see, love the design, love that it's on casters. Um, it looks really good. Right, let's go somewhere else. Now I've already got my eye on these. How cool are they? Just like that's not even a thing. That's just a box with Suyenti written on it, but I want it. I want to kind of like build something with it. Love that. Right, let's go somewhere else again. If you're enjoying, you're enjoying the live stream, thumbs up really do help. So click away. Give me the thumbs up. Right, here's someone you might recognize: Frames and Feeders. Here we go. We've done videos on these. I've just bought— can I have a little go on these? It is, yeah. I'm just doing a live stream, so hello, hello. Right, Friends and Feeders, you know these. I've got loads of these at the moment. I've got them in some poly nucs. I'm using all of my heather supers over to these, pre-waxed, and I'm going to scrape them back and I'm going to use them in a heather press, like a hydro press. But these are really cool. This is something that the beekeeping scene in the UK has been waiting for for a long, long time, which is A fully moulded DN4 plastic frame. So we've had plastic foundation for ages, but we've never had a fully moulded frame. So there we go. If you want to get some of them frames and feeders, how many have you bought? About 400. 400. I guarantee you won't have any to go home with. Supers are now just literally hot off the press this week. Yeah, he was just saying the supers are available as well, so the shallow frames are there. Definitely check these guys out. They are very close to the entrance. I'm live streaming, so I gotta— yeah, see you in a bit. Right, next up we've got Happy Bioxyl, Happy Life Bar, and then this is one of always one of my favorite stalls here, Bee Watch. You spend hours talking to Bee Watch because they do some really, really cool stuff. If you're here, definitely go and have a chat with them. How you doing? How you good? I'm good. I'm just doing a live stream, so I'm just— yeah. So you probably won't have seen these people behind me, and they've not really got like much of a— yeah, they've not got any banners. Oh, they've got a little bit of a banner. That's Murray McGregor and Yolanta, and like a motley crew. I love it. They brought like everyone, and they're gonna go and just like destroy the bar in a little bit. But go and talk to them, like they know what they're talking about when it comes to beekeeping, as opposed to me who just kind of talks nonsense. But you know, ironic that it's No Nonsense Beekeeping. Yeah, for anyone who doesn't know, that is, that is Murray there in the middle, man mountain, doing a live stream. Right, oh, here we go, we missed these out. How can we miss these out? Right behind me here, behind me here, we've got Carl Fritts. Um, these wouldn't have been in the UK for, for years and years, like pre-COVID they might have come over here, but they are like world-renowned for the quality of their honey extraction equipment. A lot of honey tanks, a lot of settling tanks, a lot of creamers. Now, a lot of people who use the Carl Frits creamer— has a completely different paddle system to a lot of the other ones that you see. Really, really good. Our bee folk is saying that the quality is good as well. I'm so happy. My concern here was that the quality was going to be shocking, and it's not shocking. So very, very pleased with that. Right, we'll continue on. Suyenti Breeze. Everyone knows that bee suit. Let's have a look. Right, a couple of other little stands here. So you've got National Honey Show, always good to go and talk to. I really want to go to the National Honey Show. It's so far away from where I am, but whenever I kind of see it on the videos, I think, oh, that's a really good show. I'd love to go there. And I don't know, do you get to try other people's honey there as well? I want to do a black jar honey competition. I don't want to filter it and grade it and look at it through pink glasses. I want to just taste it and see who has got the best honey. I know it's not going to be me, but I quite like honey, so I would like to taste it. Right, just shaking it around. Becky's Bees are going to be here, one of the biggest queen suppliers in the UK, one of the biggest bee farmers in the UK, and a very friendly person as well. So go and say hello. I think we're getting to the point where we're nearly done. If there's anyone I've missed, And you know that I've missed, let me know because I feel really bad if I've missed anyone. There's a couple more that I'm just doing here. So you've got Belgasuk who do a lot of different feeds. Even if you don't know you've had Belgasuk feed, you probably have had Belgasuk feed before. Border Honey, so that is Alex, one of the Three Musketeers in terms of the beekeeping show. I know why I'm calling them the Three Musketeers, they're probably going to hate that, but one of the 3 founding members of the Beekeeping Show. That is his company, not that far from me actually, and they do premium quality Buckfast queens reared in Great Britain from the finest breeding stock. Very good queens, I can actually vouch for them as well. So where are we going now? So what I'll just quickly do— Koshi Abraham. Koshi bought a couple of nucs off me yesterday, so thanks Koshi. I did, I did the Abello one. I'm happy to go back and do any other stands that people think I've missed. In fact, I'll probably just, I'll probably just wander over there now and get my bottle of squash because I'm so thirsty. I've done 4 hours of solid talking, I reckon, and, uh, I'm— I've been enjoying it though. I'm not going to moan. So you can see you've got Payne's behind me again there, going back through BS Honeybees. I don't know where I've put my bottle of squash. Right, we'll go back to we'll go back to Abello. We'll go back to Abello. Someone's someone's nipped my squash. Gutted. Oh, found it! Right, right. We'll go this way. Right, we're back at Abello. We'll do a bit of standing and talking here. So I can see I can see the live chat at the moment. So if anyone wants to ask any messages. I can't even talk. Anyone wants to ask any questions about the beekeeping show, I'll just stand still for a little bit, I'll have some squash, and I will answer your questions. Uh, Joe's saying, could you ask Payne's to get a top feeder for the Langstroth nuc? I, I can ask that. Do they have any lecture sessions? They do, that's a good shout. John's saying, that's a lot of Abello. Yeah, crazy. There won't be anything left, there will literally be nothing left. Show is kicking off. That's a good question, Damien. I think, I think it's nine. I'm going to wander over here to where the seminars are. I'm a little bit proud of my name being on there. Not going to lie. Drew said had a good experience with one of my Buckfast Queens. Best brood pattern I've seen. Highly recommended. Very kind. Thank you very much. Hi. I'm getting such. I'm getting such funny looks. People are like, who is this weirdo talking? Walking to himself in the camera. Little do they know that we're doing a live stream, right? So this is the seminar section. So we talk. So out of breath, right? 9:30 is Bee Bay, the company that we just spoke about there doing the treatments where you don't have to open the hive. Then we've got Marriott Duncan, who's like a beekeeping author, who's over there, and then Thermomite, which is the heating up the like, is it called, thermotherapy treatment for Varroa. Really interested with that. Then Bibber doing— talking about queens and rearing local queens. Then Andermatt, who do Oxivar, who do Thymivar. Someone's just broken something there. Then Bee Plus, then the National Honey Show, then Instant Vap. Really interested about that one. Then Vitopharma, then Lyson. And then when there's nobody left, it's just going to be like one guy cleaning up. It's me, Richard, and Griff are going to be doing it, and there's going to be no one here. So if you want to have a chat, that's probably a good time to do it. Right, yeah, so we're at half 3. You look behind here, yeah, this is people looking and they're just thinking, come on, it's bloody quarter to 7, we all want to go home. So I'm not gonna drag this one on too long. I hope you found it all enjoyable. A question there, sorry. What's the youngest age beekeeper I've ever seen? My son is into it at 9. That's cool, that's pretty young. I wasn't expecting that question, but that's probably got to be one of the youngest ones there. I will do, I'll answer a couple of questions. If anyone else has got another question, I'll answer it. If not, we'll cut it off there because I'm going to have a couple of squashes. My truck's going to be full up. Yeah, Griff and Richard are not here. So Griff's here, but he's not in the building. He was here earlier. I think he is at the pub. And then Richard, he texted me when he got into Birmingham, so he's definitely coming. He's managed to get into the UK. So I'll give it a couple more minutes if anyone wants to ask any last-minute questions on the live chat. Again, I will say again, if you've enjoyed the stream, please do give me a thumbs up. Definitely helps the stream, increases the reach. Yeah, Joe's saying Griff's on the lagers already. But I guess my final, my final words Sound like Joe Springer. Is come. If you're kind of sitting and you're thinking, oh, it's a bit of a long drive, is it going to be worth it? Is there going to be enough people there? Is there going to be enough beekeeping shows and stands and stuff there? The answer is definitely yes. Like, I'm so excited. I'm going to do a video of here tomorrow, so I've already cleared it with the guys. I'm doing this, I'm doing a little, uh— Please livestream the chat at half 2. We could do that. Let me We could, we could probably, we could probably do that. I'm not sure how good the audio would be, but I'll ask him and see if we, if we can live stream it. I'll, I'll stick it on there. Saying, is it all in one hall? Yes, it's all in one hall, and it is massive. Really big hall. Good, they've got a little coffee shop over there. You've got a food place behind us as well. They're doing breakfast, they're doing lunch, they're doing everything. But as I said, if you're on the fence, um, I just see Mem saying it's too far from Eltham. That's That's where I grew up, Eltham. But if you're on the fence, definitely come. I don't think anybody will leave and think, oh, I wish I hadn't gone, there was nothing to see there. Get here early as well, definitely get here early. And also, if you've not bought a ticket, I would buy a ticket. Only— and again, it's not an advert, I'm just saying it from my own experience of these shows— you'll turn up and there will be a massive queue, like, to get in because you've not paid your tenner or whatever it is. If you, if you order online, I think you can download like a wristband or you download something, you just go straight through the fast queue. So get here early. I'll be here, I'll be at the Abello stall for a couple of hours from like 9 to 11, and then I'm gonna do a film. I'll do a proper good quality high-res film showing everything, showing all the people here. They've got like a platform, if you look up there, that top little platform. I'm going to get up there, I'm going to camp myself up there for a bit. And I'm going to do some proper— there you go— live streams. Right, Simon G saying self-print ticket with a QR code, that's great. Honeybees is watching from California, hello. Uh, Martin's saying, will I be here next year? Yep, I will almost certainly be here next year unless, unless they don't invite me back because they think, who's that weirdo who's been filming for 4 hours, he needs to get a life. But if they invite me back, I'll definitely come as long as it's in Telford because it does, it does suit me very well. I'm going to take my hat off at some point as well. I've been wearing this hat, you can see, look at this proper sweat, and my hat's too small, so I've just got a real killer headache. But enough of me moaning. If you're on the fence, definitely come buy your tickets. If you come tomorrow, just come and tap me on the shoulder, come and say hello. I want to meet as many people as possible. And if I'm talking to someone else, just come and join in. We just have a— we'll have a group conversation. But I look forward to meeting as many people as possible tomorrow. Come here, ask questions, bring your wallet, spend loads of money, and I hope you all enjoy your beekeeping season. So that's enough for me. 45 minutes of straight talking. I will see you all tomorrow. Now I've got to work out how to finish the stream. I've not done it on the phone before. Here we go. See you later.
