Gaia explains how to clean frame tops clogged with wild comb and drone brood, which signals spacing problems in the hive. Feeding fondant directly above frames encourages the colony to fill space with worker brood instead, keeping the hive clean and supporting healthy queens.
Chapters
Gaia is clearing up the top of these frames where they've drawn wild comb and honey and brood. I'm so sad for them. Oh, I know. Gaia's just saying she's sad for the drone brood because they have to be discarded to keep it clean, but it's a necessary thing that you have to do. It's all down to spacing issues, and if you're feeding fondant or protein patties directly above the frames, which is the best place to feed it, and you're stimulating the colony to grow, then they will grow and they will fill the space with whatever they want— sometimes drone brood, sometimes honey. Sometimes a mixture, but it's now nice and queen— but it's now nice and clean, and they can replace that fondant for the next batch.
