A beekeeper built a prototype hive floor with a hidden under-floor entrance that forces bees to descend then climb back up. It deters wasps and robber bees, though moving the hive gets trickier. They're testing it this season and might add it to more hives.

This is a prototype floor that I made quite a while ago now. I put it into use this season. It's quite good though. It's got a hidden entrance underneath. See, the underfloor entrance entrance is at the front here, but this one you have to go down and then you have to go up. And then hopefully you can see that is where the entrance is for all of the bees there. Little bit more work for the wasps. I quite like it. What do you think? A modified design of the underfloor entrance with an invisible board. You know what? It's not the best for taking your bees anywhere. But I reckon it's probably the best one in terms of stopping that robbing behavior. I might try them out on a few more. What do you think?
