Rendering Beeswax With Sunshine: A Simple Guide

Laurence Edwards shows how the Abello Solar Wax Extractor uses sunlight to render beeswax from cappings. The insulated glass box and double-baffle system separate wax from honey and debris, producing a clean, solid block of beeswax in a single day with no rust or contaminants.

Today I'm rendering down beeswax using the power of the sun. So what we have here is the Abello Solar Wax Extractor. In a bucket, I've got tons and tons of wax cappings ready for rendering down, and you are not gonna believe just how simple this product here is. All you do, take your wax cappings, place it into the stainless steel tin inside, let the sun warm up this insulated glass box that lets the light in but doesn't let the heat out, and at the end of the day, you come back and you get really nice rendered beeswax. So beautiful wax cappings, prime wax cappings, We are going to empty that into the solar wax extractor and just let the sun do its business. So you can see it's got a really nice simple design, metal prong that comes up there and holds up the roof. And then you can just see in the middle here you've got your metal tin, got a baffle down the middle there and another baffle at the bottom. Then at the very bottom we've got our collection unit, stainless steel again, so none of this is going to rust. All of this will warm up though using the power of the sun over the day to to render down that beeswax. Look at those beeswax cappings as well. Aren't they absolutely beautiful? I said bring me a bucket of cappings to Abello and they brought me the finest wax cappings going. I love it. So the idea is to get all of the wax into the top tray to enable it to go through the double baffle system. So there you go, you can see we've got all of the beeswax cappings there, beautiful wax cappings provided by Daniel from Abello into the stainless steel tray. So you can see all of that wax is rendered down now. It's gone through the baffle. Separated from the honey. So I'm making a massive mess here. All of the honey is dripping out, but you can see all of that wax is rendered down into a really beautiful block there. But you can see the baffles have worked and kept the majority of the cocoons or any kind of nasty bits out of it. And I'm just left with some really nice clean beeswax.
