Laurence Edwards walks through requeening a honey bee colony. You must remove every emergency queen cell or the process fails, then introduce new queen material. After 24 hours, release the mated queen by popping the fondant tabs, and Edwards confirms success by finding her laying eggs on the brood frame.

What you need to do is shake off every single frame of bees, take them down, but you need to make sure that you take down every single one. You cannot miss one or the requeening will fail. Once you've taken down all of those emergency queen cells, the colony is now hopelessly queenless, and you want to place that into the hive. After 24 hours, you want to come back in, pop the fondant tabs. It's really important that you pop both of those tabs. I added a mated queen about 2 weeks ago, and I'm just coming back to double-check that everything's okay and that she's been released. There we go. See if you can see the queen on that frame. Beautiful frame of brood. This frame is mostly capped over, but you can see some eggs and larvae in the middle there as well. Really, really happy with this queen introduction.
