Laurence Edwards shows what happens when varroa mites go untreated: thousands of dead bees, a queen with almost no workers left, and brood with open cappings. Classic signs include bees with their tongues out and clusters crawling with mites.

Have you ever seen a colony of bees collapse due to high levels of varroa? These bees have died because the varroa mite has ravaged the colony. Hundreds and hundreds and thousands of bees dying on the bottom of that board, and it's all due to the varroa mites. The queen is still alive, a handful of bees left, but you can see here open cappings in the brood, untended, and then you have bees with their tongues sticking out. That is classic sign of varroa damage. Take a look at this last cluster of bees. They are covered in varroa mites. I've never seen one this bad. It was sent in to me by a subscriber to my channel, but I think it shows you really well just how bad the damage can be.
