Laurence Edwards demonstrates one of only four beekeeping foundation wiring looms ever made, created by Carl Lockyer and manufactured by Richard Gray. The spring-assisted device embeds wires into wax foundation in seconds using temperature-controlled electronics, cutting labor time and cost for beekeepers. No more will be produced after Gray's death.

So there we go, it is as simple as that. Like, I genuinely can't believe how quick that is. Today I'm gonna show you a really cool foundation wiring loom, one of only 4 in existence, invented by Carl Lockyer, made by Richard Gray, and sadly Richard Gray is no longer with us, so no more of these can be made. But I'm gonna show you how you can turn normal, standard, non-wired foundation into perfectly wired foundation, literally in a matter of seconds. So you can see here we've got a standard bit of wax foundation, little bit of old stuff we're just playing around with here, but you can see no wires in it, whatsoever. And then this is the device that Carl invented, and it is absolutely amazing. Like, I love it. It's the first thing that Carl showed me when he came in here, and it's the first thing that I wanted to film. So it is a very old but really well-built wiring loom. If you've got unwired foundation or you're buying unwired foundation, this could be for you because it is a really quick, simple process to get those wires embedded. It can actually save you quite a significant amount of money. So Carl's going to show us now exactly how it works.
All it is is just a quick wiring.
So you've just got like a positive and a negative there?
Yeah, positive, negative. Your wires are nice and tight. Just by pressing these just to assist the spring mechanism inside. Okay. Because there's a spring mechanism and there's electronic components to just give you the right temperature. You don't want the wire coming out glowing. So it's ready set for wiring, so it's just a Press, press the button and you can see the wire is embedding in there. And that's it, clipping him off there, clipping him off there. Get the tension off so you can lift it off the pins and you've got your perfectly wired foundation.
So there we go, it is as simple as that. Like, I genuinely can't believe how quick that is. For me, that is a really nifty time-saving idea that if you're buying a lot of foundation and you want it wired, will probably save you a lot of money in the long run.
