"Break the Habit" Paraliminal, Session B, with Dr. Paul Scheele

Dr. Paul Scheele guides a paraliminal session on replacing habits rather than fighting them. He emphasizes self-forgiveness, acting from a state of peace, and shifting the problem-solving patterns that created the habit in the first place. The session uses imagery and nonconscious learning to help you dream into new possibilities.

You.
Hello and welcome. This is the second session of Break the Habit. It's session B. Yesterday we played with the Session A recording. Now, the idea behind Break the Habit, as I have mentioned before, is, is that you can't break a habit. You can only establish a new one. This is a paradoxical problem that we have. When the problem that we're facing is one that's self created. How do you break out of the loop to get where you want to go? You can't focus on the behavior because that just puts energy into the behavior in a subtle way. You're reinforcing the same neurological processes that cause the behavior to keep going on an ongoing basis. So whatever the behavior may be, whether it's an addictive behavior or just a habit of procrastination or not dealing with certain issues in your life, whatever it might be.
This is the way in which you're going to break free and create what you want. It starts with you recognizing that you are fully resourced right now, right here, to create the life that you're choosing to create. Part of what Session B is about, it's about forgiving yourself. It's about forgiving the past. The wonderful thing about the past, it's over. And today is a brand new day to start. And you may have heard in the areas of addiction.
Counseling that we need to live one day at a time. The idea is that we need to find serenity. And the Serenity Prayer is about recognizing what you have control over and what you don't. And having the courage to really deal with anything that you might be able to make a shift in today.
The serenity to let go what's not yours to do. So when you put all of that together, you recognize that any task that you choose to do, any of your doing.
Is going to be made easier when you start with the state of being.
So for example, if you could just get over this bad habit, then you would be happier. Well, you can't do to be. So start with being happy, being peaceful, being centered. And then what is a next step that's important for you to take in order to get where you want to go? So. So if you get the idea behind creating a state of being, probably more than any other para liminal, this one really reinforces that idea of being very present to what it is that you have within you. These states of peace and serenity. Now there's another interesting complex of behavioral traps that are established when we're trying to break a habit.
Many people create for themselves what is Known as the ultra solution. In other words, what they say to themselves is, you know, if I could just solve this one thing and it might be, if I could just lose these last ten pounds and everything will be okay. If, if I could just quit smoking, then everything will be okay. If I could just start working out, then everything will be okay. Now listen, there is no such thing as an ultra solution. There isn't any one resolve that's going to handle all the issues that are going on in your life.
The one that you're focusing on, that you really want to resolve, resolve that. And what's going to happen is you have gained the generative skill of handling problems like that, and you'll apply that skill to all the other areas of your life where you need to have a breakthrough. This is also one of the wonderful things about paraliminal technology is they're not remedial in nature, they're generative. Remedial, meaning they don't just remedy a problem that you're trying to deal with. They're actually training you at a deep, non conscious level of mind to gain the skills and resources within you, apply them to the issue that you're facing, and have the breakthrough that you desire. And having done that, guess what? You just became more skilled at gaining access to the resources within you, applying them to the issue that you're facing, and getting to where you want to go. Every time you do that, you're gaining this generative capacity.
Generating the capacity, the skills, the knowledge, the focus of mind to be able to address any of the problem areas that you may face in your life. Now here's another thing that's interesting about problem solving. And the reason I want to get into this is because Break the habit is such an interesting place to look at how we create the problems that we're facing. You see, every time we solve a problem, it creates other problems.
Einstein said you can't solve the problem in front of you at the level of thinking that that put the problem there to begin with. A lot of us say, I didn't put the problem there. Actually, your problem solving approach over a period of years has led to the unintended consequences that you're now dealing with today. In other words, what you look at today as a problem area is one that was created as a result of having solved problems like these. But over the years, we developed a habit of solving problems in a certain way. And what we need to do is we need to change the way in which we approach this problem solution. Problem solution, problem Solution situation. It's called a paradigm. This problem solution paradigm, we need to transcend it and have a new way of addressing paradoxical problems like that. Break the Habit in the deep design of its creation is about exactly that, creating a generative problem solving approach to look at how you go about solving problems and changing the very nature by which you solve problems. So one of them is about breaking out of that paradoxical situation. Another is to recognize it's not the ultra solution, it's just the next one that you need to deal with at this time. And the other is by building within you the recognition that anytime you're addressing any task, you're going to be more skilled at doing so because you're starting from a place of being, being fully who you are. The other thing about this parallel, which I think is quite important for you to understand, is that when you think about those lofty goals that you've dreamed of.
This Paralympical really puts you in the place of that dream. Has a little bit of a biblical reference in it when it talks about the multicolored dream coat. In essence, what you're doing is you're recognizing that you can put on that coat to dream fully into the future that you've desired. Oftentimes those dreams are subverted when we say, well, I can't have that dream because look at this behavior I engage in. That's a reason why I can't get my dream. No, it's not. It's just one of those obstacles that we place in front of ourselves. If that was not a problem, if the greatest fear that you have about that future success wasn't an issue, if you knew that the universe had your back, if you knew that you're fully resourced to achieve whatever you dream, whatever you set your mind on, what would you then choose to do?
And it's from that place of resourcefulness that we begin creating this day. That's why it's also really cool to use these paraliminals that have two sides, where you listen to one.
At night before you go to sleep, and you listen to the next, the morning, as you awaken. So you bookend your day, break the habit is a great paralympical to do exactly that. So keep playing with it as we go through this month and enjoy it to its fullest. Live fully today, live wholeheartedly. Thanks very much for being here. Peace and blessings. Bye for now.
