Ah, I hope you have a specific task in mind today because this is your opportunity to break through.
For procrastination.
This is get around to it session B. Yesterday we played with session A, which looked at overarching look at how goal accomplishment occurs. When we're achieving a goal, we've got our past, we've got our present, and we've got our future. And when we're standing in the present looking to our future, what's really easy to do is to think, well, I've got got to bring everything from my past as a resource to be able to get to that future accomplishment. But when I go to look for that resource, what I find is errors, mistakes, failures that I've had with similar situations in the past. Or I look at this accomplishment, realize I've never done anything like this before. How am I going to be able to get where I want to go as a result of that? And it can happen in just a tenth of a second.
We create a gap in our resourcefulness between here and the future. And as a result, we hesitate. Opportunities pass by, or we create piles of indecision and inactivity that could remain for days, weeks, months, years. I don't know if you've ever had a pile that stayed in one place for more than a year. I have. So the idea of get around to it is to say, you know, we can get to that. When we eliminate that general pattern of procrastination, then what we can do is we focus in on a specific task that's really bugging you. If it's a pile of paper, great. If it's a messy garage, great. If it's that exercise routine you've been wanting to get to, great. Focus in on a specific task that you would like to accomplish. Now, one of the things that I said in talking about get around to it session A is that there is a cue, a situation, a circumstance, a decision point in your day where, you know, I could either move in the direction of my goal or continue in the unproductive patterns of the past. So at that cue, that decision point says, now's the time to take action.
What we're interested in doing is focusing in on the end result that we would most like to achieve.
Not just thinking about, oh, wouldn't it be nice if I were to accomplish it, but really feeling the reward.
The reward that you feel as you have accomplished that goal. What that does is it powers your motivation. So very often I will think of a goal that I would like to accomplish, but I want to also think about the goal behind that goal. What's the deeper purpose? What's going to open up in my life so that I'll be living in a way that's freer and lighter and more successful, more self affirming and self reinforcing, not only of who I am, but of what it is that I'm choosing to accomplish.
What you're doing in that moment is you're building a bridge between your desire.
And your achievement. That bridge gets strengthened with this paraliminal listening session. Mainly because instead of looking at all of the obstacles, the fears, the worries, the limitations of time, energy, focus, whatever it might be, instead of focusing on all of those things that are underneath the bridge, we're focusing on the goal and we're realizing, I have the resources I need. Now. Sometimes you actually have to coach yourself on that. You know what I'm talking about. When there's an important goal in front of you and you're feeling kind of nervous about it, you, you have to give yourself a bit of a pep talk and say.
I can do this mind, you can do this. Your name, you can do this. Doesn't matter. You've never done it before. You just know that it's within you to be able to accomplish that task. This is where breakthroughs really occur. When you recognize that there's nothing to fear, that, that the universe is supporting you to create the life that you're meant to live, to live wholeheartedly into your life's purpose, then you know that you're fully resourced to accomplish whatever it is that you're holding in your mind, in your energy, in your attention.
And so that's where this bridge becomes one that every time you walk it, you're building the neural circuitry, literally building the skills that your brain and body can work together to accomplish not just this next task in front of you, but then all other tasks similar to it as you continue to up level your life. Now, yesterday I talked about this idea that we're building a compulsion to do something. I'd like to tell you a story. I don't know if you've heard it before around this particular parallel, but a colleague of mine was an instructor for the Dive Association.
She was a member of the Professional association of Diving Instructors. She's a scuba instructor. Every time she certified somebody, she had to fill out a card and file it. Well, she had cards all over her apartment and, and never filed them. She got a hold of this paralympical and thought, okay, tomorrow's Saturday, I'm Going to clear a little space. I'm going to get this job done. So before she went to bed, she put on the Paralympical and she heard, this is Paul Shealy from Learning Stretch. You know, the beginning, right? And the next morning she, she woke up and she was all set. Oh, I'm going to go file all of those cards. She looked around her apartment and there weren't any cards anywhere. She had them piled on radiator and on a credenza and on a table on her desk. Gone. She thought, what in the heck? Where did they go? She thought for a moment. She went over to her file cabinet, opened the drawer and, and all the cards were in there. Filed. Yeah, she had woken up in the middle of the night, like 2:30 in the morning. Filed all of them, went back to sleep. She didn't even remember that that had occurred. And so one of the messages inside of this get around to it Session B recording is that as you move in the direction of accomplishing that one thing that's in front of you, you might find yourself finishing a lot of things along the way. For example, if I have something that I am choosing to do in my garage, a task that I need to get done out there, as I'm walking toward my garage, I notice that I have something there next to the stairway to go up. I'll grab it. It's been sitting there for a week. I'll take it upstairs, I'll put it where it needs to go. I hadn't carried it there up until now, but all of a sudden I'm starting to realize, oh my goodness, I'm knocking off all of these little things that have been distracting my attention for so long. And so when I talk about building this bridge to the future, really what you're getting, this is a deep idea. You are getting the capacity to lead your life.
From the perspective of the successful future that's already manifested. This is a little weird to imagine, but imagine leading from the future as it's emerging in this now moment. If your future self could come and coach you on, oh, why don't you grab that on the way up the stairs, you go, oh yeah, you can handle this. On the way to accomplishing that goal. Yeah, I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. And so what's happening is that higher desire, that greater purpose, a bigger expression of your life is always encouraging you to handle the present moment in a way that's lighter, that's freer, that's more joyful, that's that's more energized, that's more empowered, that has greater sense of peace.
And that lighter, freer experience on a daily basis rewards itself. Do you get what I mean? Every time you do something, it becomes a compounding positive suggestion, in the same way that in the past, every time you didn't do something, you'd beat yourself up for it and go, why don't I ever do that? How come I keep failing? Right. If you could eliminate all that, how much lighter and how much freer would you be? Let's get around to it. It's absolutely one of the most valuable tools in your toolkit for personal achievement and development. It's been fun sharing this with you. Have a wonderful day. Go get her done, and we'll see you for the next session tomorrow. Bye for now.
