Max Ruiz asks when to start drills for high school offensive linemen. Spend the first six to eight weeks in the weight room building strength and mobility, then move to stance work and drive-catch drills. Skip on-field drills early, or in-season weaknesses will stick around.

Max Ruiz 50. You asked, how soon should we incorporate drills for high school offensive line athletes in the offseason? My stance on this is take your time. Let them build up in the weight room. Let's work that mobility. Let's put on some muscle mass. Let's lose some body fat. Let's, let's work on some of our weaknesses that we could really fix in the weight room. The biggest gains we ever have in our life are in high school. You take a high school athlete, you squat them once, all of a sudden they could jump, run, and do everything better than prior. So if we have some— an issue, let's say, of stopping a bull rush, and that person's probably a little weak, maybe they have tight ankles, let's work on that. And then when we go to drills, they'll completely move different. Their strength will show up, their mobility will show up. If we just go into an offseason, a lot of times we jump right into drills. Well, they have these same problems from in-season, and we carry them right into the next offseason, and it goes right into the next season, and there's not enough growth. But if we take our time in the weight room and really develop that, especially like those first 6 to 8 weeks, we're going to be better off in the long run. I would use the beginning of offseason in regards to drills is just really focusing on a— on perfecting their stance, getting real comfortable, getting strong, be able to hold that, and then working some drive-catch, whether it be run or pass. But just focus that stance in the first 6, 8 weeks. We want to see so much changes happening in their body in the weight room it will show up after that. So don't take— don't rush into it. Hope this helps. Keep the questions coming. Thank you.
