Q&A With LeCharles

I wanted to briefly address one of the questions I was recently asked on my Twitter account @OLINEWORLD65. Once again, that's @OLINEWORLD65. Be sure to follow me on there. Matter of fact, have all your friends follow me on there as well because, hey, we're offensive linemen, we're family, we're community, that's what it's all about. The question was simply this: as an offensive line coach at the peewee level or the Pop Warner level, What should I be focusing on with my young offensive lineman? The answer is simply, when dealing with offensive lineman, regardless of the age group, I like to focus on developing confidence. I think that if you can develop the confidence and instill that confidence in your players, regardless of the age group, your players are going to respond in a remarkable fashion. I don't have to get into the ideas or your philosophies of what you believe as an offensive line coach because as many people like to say, there's a thousand ways to skin a cat, but there's only one way to properly teach offensive linemen. I won't muddy the waters with my personal beliefs right now. We'll get into that on a later date, but when you're dealing with offensive linemen, regardless of what you believe, confidence is the key. Get your players to believe in you as a coach. Get your players to believe in what they are being taught. If your players genuinely believe what they're being taught, they will go out there, they will play hard, they will play fast, and that's what it's all about at the end of the day in the trenches. One thing I like to tell my guys, if I believe it, your opponent will believe it as well, and that's all that matters. Best of luck to you.
