Offensive line drill for maintaining square stance on double-team blocks. Coach applies lateral pressure to the lineman's elbow and hip while they drive through the defender, using a cone 2-3 yards ahead as a depth marker. After reaching the cone, the lineman pushes away and sets their hips to intersect with the linebacker.

Coaches, if your players are struggling to stay square on the first level of double teams, here's a drill to emphasize driving the hips through the defender. Begin by having your O-line athlete set up in a position of leverage that you want to maintain throughout the block. Have the defender apply lateral pressure with their hands on the elbow and hip of the O-line athlete to emphasize driving the near arm and hip through the defender. Set up a cone 2 to 3 yards in front of the uncovered foot of the O-line athlete and have them drive upfield without getting washed down. Once the athlete reaches the cone, they will then drive away from the pressure of the defender, setting their hips on the appropriate angle to intersect with the linebacker.
