LeCharles Bentley argues that offensive linemen waste time on inconsistent stances when they should be drilling one repeatable position. He points to speed skating, golf, and shot put: every elite sport locks in the starting stance first. Coaches who skip this step leave performance on the field.

Welcome to O-Line TV. I'm LeCharles Bentley. When we look at sports performance, there are some consistencies, especially when you start talking about specialized skills in sport. Sports such as speed skating, golf, baseball, track, and shot put, and obviously football, especially offensive line play. The consistencies can be a little blurry, but as you really break it down, every one of the outline sports I discussed all have a proper starting position. A starting position that the players have a process to ultimately get into, which brings it to my point. Offensive line play. Why do we rush through a stance setup? Why don't we focus on building a proper stance? If we want our players to perform better, let's take away that ambiguity and really begin to evaluate sports performance. Every high-level sport has a specialized process to get into a stance, which means this wonderful game that our young athletes play and our young offensive line athletes, we need to focus on building and mandating that they follow a proper stance setup in order to elicit a high return in their performance.
