Lee Richter and Carey Oberbrunner brainstorm ways to use NFTs for Lee's book launch: early access and signed copies as purchase incentives, NFTs that unlock as readers finish chapters, exclusive dinners and VIP events tied to tokens, and a utility coin that rewards engagement and powers a marketplace. They also explore NFTs that certify advisory roles, unlock tools, and serve as podcast episode records.
Chapters
Yeah, you know what, we are talking about NFTs and blockchain life, and I'm Lee Richter.
I'm Carey Oberbrunner.
Yay, Carey, thanks for being here. And one of the things we're talking about is the book we're launching, the ideas we're launching. We have not done a hot seat yet about all the different ways we can use NFTs in our book launch and in our business. So rather than just doing it on whiteboards like we normally do, I thought let's just share it. How do we come up with ideas?
I love it.
So for So we're thinking about NFTs in our business and in our book. Of course, we can do an NFT around the book launch, right? People buy the NFT, now they get the first release of the book or a signed copy of the book or a Q&A roundtable with us. Q&A roundtable, early access. We can send them the first chapter now.
Your course.
Oh, my course. We can share that. Buy it now, get the course. Oh, what else? We can do NFTs in the book.
Oh, that's cool. In fact, I want to talk about that because Right now, we've already formed an alliance with gamification. So there's an NFT gamification technology where we literally can create challenges. So we'll say, what are the 3 ways that you can use an NFT in chapter 3? And then when someone types in the answers, they get an NFT minted.
So they can win an NFT from us by doing the different challenges.
As they progress through the book.
They build their assets at the same time.
Isn't that cool?
So build your knowledge and your assets.
Ooh, that— we gotta quote that.
Build your knowledge and your assets. Yeah, you heard it here first. And then also one of the things is even after we publish the book, we have focus groups. So people can have access to different focus groups. They can get awards for doing that or even being in the focus group.
We could have a community.
Oh yeah, we will definitely.
Membership community.
Membership community is a great way. It could be chapters that didn't make it in the book. They get a bonus. That's good.
What about some of the interviews that we're doing with people?
Oh, that's true because we're interviewing some really big rock stars. So now they might have access to maybe a conversation with us and them.
Like, you interviewed Melinda and Margaret the other day, and that— some people might be like, ooh, I'm a coach, I want that bonus video. We could actually, uh, topic— we could create topics for the different speakers and then the verticals.
A meme can come out of it, and that could turn into an NFT. And with that NFT, you can have access to something in the future, even in person.
Remember how good that dinner was the other day?
Oh my goodness, we went to the best restaurant in all of Arizona. It was the best meal I've ever had. It's called Kai.
But what if we said we're coming back to Kai, you buy this NFT, it's the dinner.
Oh yes, I did actually do that with the French Laundry already.
Did you?
I invited 10 people and each one had to buy an NFT to come with me. It was super fun because actually my team created the NFTs. We used photos of mine from before, they had access, but now Anyone who owns those NFTs, I can bring them back again with me, or they could be VIP first on the list.
That's so good.
But the other thing is, when we launch the book, maybe we launch an NFT series where they have dinner with us and boardroom style choose to ask us what we learned or what we want to share or what didn't make it in the book.
Consultation with their company.
Absolutely. Let me see. Tom Bilyeu said in his access utility map, one of the things he gave is opportunity for people to pitch ideas to them.
Oh, that's good.
So one of the things could be either like a mini Shark Tank Like, we could have an NFT panel where people come in and pitch their ideas to us and we hot seat them.
Do you know why I'm glad we're recording this? Because those are such good ideas.
Absolutely. We're gonna be having a checklist.
Here's our marketing plan.
We will definitely have a checklist around this.
What about some kind of coin?
Oh, we could have coins.
I mean, like a Blockchain Life coin that, that, I don't know, it has some kind of utility.
Well, we're looking at our friend Scott Donnell, who got the idea in a Genius Network meeting that we were part of last year, and he He did not know how he was gonna bring a coin to his community, but through that meeting, it sparked an idea where they could win, and by winning it, they get points, and by turning those points into the coin, now they can have value.
That's good.
And he is creating it so that the marketplace will support the coin, so maybe other vendors come in and the coin can be used to work with them directly.
Gotcha, because there are some SEC coin stuff you gotta be careful with. I don't know, is there?
Well, there's so many rules to know along the way, but for him, for his community, what he wants to do is create engagement, but he also wants to create value for the kids so that they're in, you know, they're really excited about being part of it. Yes, with us too, we could do something like that. Um, I will say also we have another book coming out after this quarter, and people can get an NFT now for rights to that first book, rights to the second book, to be part of the book, to be in our interview series.
I like that. What if we had a strategic partner, strategic like vendors that we would vet Like, for example, you were mentioning out there today about tax. You had to find the right person and it took time.
Not just that, we had to find the right software, not only so that we can document our cryptocurrency transactions, because if we're in and out, we needed software to do it, but we also needed the talent to be able to help us manage and advise us. And what I was saying is you can't just go to any accountant. You have to go to someone who already understands this blockchain life. They're in it. They've bought and sold currency. Now they're seeing how it affects them personally and they can help their clients even more. So you're right, one of our NFTs might be access to our pillars. Yes, access to our knowledge base.
Like a physical Rolodex contacts.
Yeah, absolutely. Some people might not know a Rolodex anymore. It's so funny how we date ourselves sometimes, but that's why we have the focus groups with every single— no, but I, I use a golden Rolodex and some people are like, what's a Rolodex? So I've learned But what I've learned is now when we're doing the focus groups in every single generation, now they can win NFTs from us. They can be recognized. Do you know what else? We can issue an NFT to them that they put in their wallet to say that they're on our focus group as an advisor so that other people can see that they're part of it and they're real as well.
You know what else we need is an NFT that unlocks our toolbox. In other words, you and your team, Ian and others, Me and my team, we have certain dApps that we use, we have certain technologies that we have, and there's people who are saying there's thousands out there, what's— which one should I go to? So I think if we unlocked this toolbox that said, hey, here's our tools that we use, that'd be pretty valuable.
That's actually really valuable because we have to know many to choose the one we do, and why do we choose them? Yes, sometimes the why is even more important.
That's true. So I feel like we're just starting. I'm glad we recorded this.
And it can roll. I mean, it's so easy. And I'm thinking already 5 or 6 other things, including ways to collaborate, for people to get in front of us, and even to celebrate the early adopters, right? Or awards. I mean, another one could be issue it as an award, right? Something that we want to honor somebody.
The Blockchain Awards. Blockchain Life Awards.
Blockchain Life Awards. Yes, born here right now. Our red carpet and everything. So there. Thank you for coming on this journey with us. We really are just spitballing and seeing what's going to stick, but this is real time. We had not talked about this before.
I'm excited.
And we wanted to share it with you just to show you that when you're in it and it's exciting, the ideas will keep flowing. So we get to—
Get around people that are like-minded and smart, and I learn from you and you learn from me.
Absolutely. We get to mentor one another.
Exactly.
So be inspired, take action, join us on this journey. Come along in the course if you would like to. We will have that link in the notes. And you know what, one of the things you can sell an NFT for is podcasts. You could actually sell an NFT of your podcast.
I have 400 episodes that I could go like that.
And now we're starting these in Blockchain Life, so we get to do the same thing.
I love it.
So good. Enjoy everyone. Hope we inspired you. And now we have a checklist we got to get to.
Yes, we do. See ya.
