Jane Slack Smith talks with Satyarthi about meditation, trauma, and spiritual growth. Satyarthi shares personal stories from his path to self-realization, exploring forgiveness, gratitude, and living in present awareness.
Welcome to Exit the Matrix Stories of Success with your host, Jane Slack Smith, where we celebrate the incredible journeys of individuals who've transcended their limitations and achieved extraordinary success.
Yep.
I am so excited. We've just had a quick little connection and I'm here with Sunny Rathi and I have to say that as soon as you said yes to this, this discussion, I was just like, I've been buzzing for days. So I'm just so happy and grateful that you're here.
I'm also very, very grateful, you know, that to meet you for that one week in that program, in that retreat, and to feel this like a lifelong connection, it is so beautiful feeling and I don't know, I just enjoy to being nearby you, your feelings, your emotions, your stories. It is still inspired you and very happy and very grateful that you invite me to being here.
Well, I have to say the feeling's completely mutual. And I, I don't know about you, but it's very rare when you meet someone and you just like this person is like the person that I've always known but haven't met yet. And I just, I don't know. I'm pretty sure that you must have that effect on a lot of people. I know you have like masses of people who follow you around the world, but the I, you know, I, I remember someone talking about when they met Princess Diana or Pope Francis. It was like, you're the only person in the room. And that's the feeling that I had when I spent that time with you. And I know everyone who was on that incredible retreat with Alona had that same experience. So thank you once again.
Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
Okay, so let me give you a little bit of like a catch up here of what's going on. So when I was, I guess, called to write this book about what is it to actually create abundance in all areas of your life and also live your heart's desire. So it's not just about getting whatever it is, you know, financial, emotional, spiritual, you know, wealth. It's about doing it in alignment to what your heart's desire is. And I thought I'd an interview and talk to my friends and thought leaders and people who have, you know, a real deep understanding. So when I get to actually writing the book, I can give a real lot of integrity to it. And I spoke to a lady last week and we kind of, you know, I'm at that stage in the book where it's just like there's this awareness you know, people have what would be the awareness kind of avenue or sliding door moment that people have. It's like, you know, something's not quite right. I'm not completely fulfilled. I kind of might have all the trappings or not, but there's something missing. And so I've kind of been exploring that and then moving into this awakening that there's different type of modalities and, and things that people can do to, to awaken themselves to their full potential. And then there's like the actualization and activation where we maintain it. And so I was just in this, in these 10 weeks of interviews from this point and what we discussed last week was she talked about how she gets up at 5:30 to do these morning rituals and has always felt kind of guilty that she was doing things for herself. And we talked about guilt and what it made me think of was the incredible discussion that we had around the five poisons that you talk us talked to the group through. And I think that's why I reached out to you. I was like, there's something kind of missing here. We can't kind of just jump to a kind of yay, I'm going to do, you know, meditation or something or breath work or you know, dancing or whatever that that's kind of activates me and keeps me aligned. And so that's why I reached out because you're, you're obviously progressed in such an incredibly enlightened way and worked with thousands of people and seeing you know, what kind of works and what doesn't work. But you've also had this incredible journey yourself. So I kind of want to start all the way back at the beginning because you, I know was it 14 that you kind of went yeah dad, I'm not taking over the business. I just want to hear about because you kind of had that calling to a different, different kind of alignment to what was planned for you, right?
Yep. Yep. So first again thanks to you and to all of us who gonna watch this video, whenever, wherever. I just want to tell all of you that I love you so much whenever you watch this today, tomorrow, day after tomorrow, years later. Remember, time not work linearly. It work something magically if it's reached to you. That means we all are connected, me, Jane, you and all of us in a one circular love affair of time. So thank you for all of you. Let's talk. I really, really like it what you tell about it that this is the time where a lot of people are interested in the self growth and a lot of People are understand that some kind of like to be just have eat, sex, work, achievement. This that is not satisfying. It make us dry. This kind of mundane style of a pressurizing life where we are continuous running for achievement. It make us empty.
Yeah.
And that's why you see that these days the spiritual development, the conscious growth activities is on the peak. Lot of people are telling me always that, you know, past was beautiful. I tell no, this is the best time of the earth.
Yeah.
I don't remember historically in any time era where so many people are so much interested to get enlightened, to be awakened, to grow consciously. So despite of all things, whatever is going on, but still we are in the best time of the time zone time era. And we are the like magical people who are together. And that's interest a lot for a lot of people to go for. Awakening spirituality. What is missing? What is missing when people take jump to the spirituality, they're thinking it's like a shortcut.
Yeah.
They're thinking it's like some technique. Give me some Kundani awakening practice. Give me some powerful breath work. Give me this, give me that. I do this, I do that and magic happen.
Yep.
Magic will not happen like that. Magic will happen when we sincerely work on the five poison and that anyway we gonna discuss about it. So when you talk about it, that you work with lot of people and you know what is work. So my answer is the right understanding and the right practice.
Some people when you say the right understanding, is it kind of where they're coming from? Like what the end goal is of what they're trying to do? Is it just trying to fix something or is it kind of like, you know, I really want to live my truth.
Yeah. The right understanding means that we are not here to achieve anything. We are not here to be like. Before this mind want to achieve money. Now this mind want to achieve enlightenment. It is the same mind game, not change if I like. You need to understand. We living in a time where people ask always me, Satyarthi, what meditations gives me. I come to your tantra workshop, what it will give me. And I will always tell Tantra meditations will not give you anything. It will take everything out of you. What is not working. So spirituality means a self realization that we are itself is a perfect we born as the enlightened one, the Buddha's one, the awakened one. And we forget that nature. So the meditation, the tantra, the path of spirituality, take it out. What is not allowed you to be awakened so you can remember Your true nature. So the right understanding means that I'm not come for spirituality to achieve anything. I'm just come for spirituality to be knows who I am, what is my purpose, what is my truth and that's it.
Like the way that you describe it for me is. It's such a relief because if I look into this unknown future and I'm sick, seek, seek, seek, seeking, then there is this ambiguity of about it. But if I look to the past and go I knew it and all I'm doing is remembering and taking the layers off that have clouded that. Like the blinkers that have clouded my vision. This remembering is actually quite comforting because it's familiar.
Yes, yes. You know there is a one very beautiful spiritual philosophy which is come from enlightened master from east. We called it Astavakra Mahagita. And he always tell that you cannot find something that you already have. You already have your awakened nature, your conscious nature, your enlightenment nature. You already have. So do not waste too much time to finding it. You need to just focus inside. Where I forget it is all just amount of work. Whatever we are doing, it's about remembering. That's why I called the right understanding then the right practice. Which means the meditation, which means the breath work, which means the dance, which means all the physical activities or yoga, whatever you choosing, whatever there are 10,000 meditations available. Whatever you choose, whatever you love it, just do it for little bit long time, not for one day, two day, one month, a little long until it's not. Reprogram your brain and you will find it. If there's a right understanding and the right practice anyway you will remember who you are. Anyway you realize that I am the awakened one. That's it.
So, so is there a wrong meditation or can you like, you know, with intention you can stuff it up and still get it. Like how does that work?
Like I don't see the meditations have a problem. Problem have the intention. So let's imagine when the yoga. Yoga never about only a fitness. It's not about to just fit your body. It's about yog. The word yog means total. It's a Hindi word yog like yoga come from the word yog. And yog means total. What is that? Yoga try to tell a complete connection between your body, your soul and your mind. A total connection, a total harmony. So yoga is not about fitting your body, it is about fit your whole system, your consciousness, fit your whole life. But what happened when we don't have this right understanding, we forget the path that yoga is about meditation. Yoga is about bring awareness. Yoga is about to bring awareness to your daily life. Then we only focus on the body movement and then it's become exercise, understand? So yoga is a great way to be awakened. But if I only understand yoga as a fitness, then I only focus on the body movement and I forget the true purpose. That's a meaning in a way that the meditations are not right or wrong. It's about how we understand them. If we not understand them correctly, then we fucked up. So our intention should be very clear. So next time, anybody who is watching, if you practicing yoga, try to be, can I observe, can I observe all my body movement during all the difficult asanas and postures? So you create a one habit in your system. Even if it's how much difficult I can be joy, happy in silence. So when in the life fucked up situation came, difficulties came, you remember, I can be happy, I can be silenced, I can be observed. That's the purpose to be.
When you make asanas, building up a resistance resume or resilience resume, it's like, oh, you know, this is a really hard position in yoga and I'm struggling with it, but I'm doing it joyously because I'm present and I'm aware of. And my intention is that I want total connection. And therefore, if you do have a challenging situation, you've already prepared for it. You're like, I can, I can enter this with some lightness and maybe some observation rather than being in the drama.
Yeah, that the same way you know, when you are, let's say I always tell when you're doing a difficult task, difficulties asanas, can I be just there While in this difficult asanas, can I find my inner center and to be there. Then when the difficult situation came, you not attach, not fallen down, you be there and find your sweet center of joy where everything happened. But you still enjoy.
This is why I love speaking to you. It's always about joy and happiness, isn't it?
Yes, it is always about joy and happiness.
I think you quoted someone and you said, even if your intention is wrong, if your intention is right, even if you do it wrong, you get the right result. Can you just talk?
Yes. Yeah. So like when I talk about it, lot of time people are worried about a lot light meditation, like, you know, not right, let's say correct that I will do everything correct because my brain want everything perfect, the perfect yoga, perfect breath, perfect posture, perfect everything. And I tell, it's never about technique, it's never about perfection. If your intention is right, wrong. Meditation can give you everything. And if your intention is wrong, right meditation will not going to work with you. So in this magical life is all about intention. That's why when you come to the east they teach you love, trust, devotion, intention. And then do as much as you can. You don't need to be perfect. If it's this much, okay. This much. Okay. Close eyes, open eyes, everything okay. Intention should be pure. Intention should be right.
Amazing. Well, you touched on these five poisons. I'm gathering that these are the onion skins that we have to really concentrate on to allow us to remember where we came from. Our true purpose. Nature, love, joy, happiness, source. So can you talk to those for me?
So for answer that I will take you a little bit to my past story. So I think I was a 14 year old boy. And I born in as I'm looking Indian men. So I born in the Indian family. I born as an eldest son. And in India my PsyD. Eldest son mean you born like an old man, don't have a childhood, you don't have a. You don't have a chance to be a little boy. You born as a eldest son. That means you are next to papa, you next to the father, right? And all the family responsibilities comes to you. So I was maybe three or four years old. My father is already taking me to his shop, his business. Start teaching me everything. Because we also have a family business tradition. The great grandfather, grandfather, father and automatically comes to me to the eldest son. And everything was like. You know you can feel like as if everything pre decided like this is my business. It's going to be my life. You will go to the college after the college by 20, get married 22, make 2, 3 children life settle down, take care of family and everything. And you permanent grow up in this way that papa is papa, mama, everybody telling that all life is depend on you. You need to take care of sister, brother, family, everything. I was 14 and I feel so much frustrated that there is a no freedom. It's not look like in this life, in this way of life. There is anywhere me, there is anywhere individuality. It look like everything is pre decided. And then yes then it was a great, great calling for me that let's try to find something new. Let's try to be look some other options, some other answers. And it's a great fight in the family. It's a great drama when I decided because everybody born that a Buddha born in others people house. Nobody want a Buddha in your own house. Because Buddhas are not gonna be taking care the business of the papa. I love that marriage. The woman which papa chooses a Buddha will not take two children very fast which will take out the generation further.
I love this so much. It reminds me of the saying that everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die. Yeah, it's kind of like oh my gosh, there's the Buddha lives next door. They're so blessed. Thank God it's not me.
Yeah, same way. Same way exactly. So that's why like a lot of drama. And when I decided like okay, I don't want to be married, I don't want to be follow the business path of the family, I want to find my own self. And they all think I'm get crazy because in my society there is even not anyone like 200, 300, 500, like whoever you knows, you don't know that they not choose married or they not choose children, or they not choose normal traditional way. And then you, then you need to find just whom you are. And it was very challenging because you see, I'm alone. I'm the only one in this planet who is looking my path. And then you meet the teacher, you meet the masters, they help you to grow. And that's how the journey started. So then I leave my house, start living in communities, spiritual places, living with different, different ashrams and. Yeah, and that's how the life keep going.
A master that, that taught you meditation, like what were you learning in this ashrams? Like did it fulfill the yearning of what you're looking for?
Yeah, definitely. They like when I go, you go from this space that like teacher, master, coach, whatever word you want to address it. In east we address master. So we, you go from this space that Master, I'm. I'm lost. Please help me to find who I am and my purpose. And then they definitely give you the right understanding which is about to be come out of the five poison. That was the understanding. And you also get the right meditations. You practice a lot about meditations, you practice a lot about observation with your thoughts. And slowly, slowly you settle down in gratitude.
How long does this take? Like are you meditating like 2 hours a day or is it like for 10 years you have to meditate like 12 hours a day. Like what? Just give me a sense of what this I didn't looks like for a 14 year old boy.
I think, I think in starting definitely you are like because you need to understand is all about intensity. So let's say when you are 14 years old. And you like in this state of the being either I want to suicide or I want to something new. Like I cannot go back the old life. You full powerfully like you full totality practice whatever your master tell. And those days I practice let's say three four hour meditations. And then you like, you like my master was very sick. So you need to wake up 4am in the morning, do the nada brahma, do the different, different breath work, chantings, yoga practices. Then you need to come to see him and he check how much breathing and what you are learning. So yeah, that was the starting time is like that but slowly, slowly I think in my understanding maybe two, three years when meditation really settled down. Then you come to the new stage that you not need to follow the technique, you start living in awareness. So in the starting journey you need a technique but then you will drop the technique and you start living awareness.
It's kind of like you have to live, you have to. You go from a state of unconscious living to a state of consciously choosing how you turn up and how you live which then becomes the next stage of unconscious living. Right. We do the circle but we do a circle with, with learn more learning and intention of how we're living. So yeah, for someone who's you know, meditated in, in I guess the western definition of the word and you know I've done lots of visualization and, and you know, guided meditations which is kind of, you know what I enjoy etc. Is there a point and that you're always, you're you're hearing voices, are seeing voices, thoughts are coming, things are happening. I'm hearing that from you that there's a point of silence or is it a different sense of awareness and still.
Information'S there like so it's a very simple process. I will just decode in the stage wise so it's easy. Let's first stage, let's say you started today, you need a meditation, you need a technique, let's call it you need a meditation technique. Now there are three type of meditation technique. First is guided meditation. That means you choose any teacher, coach, master or chat, GPT or AI who will give you a voiceover. And with that voice, very deep loving voice they will bring your mind which is continuously jumping out of stress, slowly, slowly calm down and bring back to your heart. That's a guided meditation. In the ancient time, guided meditation lead by enlightened masters. Then slowly, slowly lot of coaches and teachers starting leading and now even AI can lead for you. So we are really going a quantum leap of evolution. So that means a lot of tools available. That's the first easiest way to start guided meditation. Then the second meditation type of technique. The second type of technique which is active meditation. So active meditation is more about that you move your body because what is happening? Let's say if I tell you close your eyes. The moment you close your eyes it look torture. Like if I tell you, okay, close your eyes and be silenced. Mind will tell you why I should be silenced. And you will see 10,000 thoughts. And you feel my God is headache. Oh Satyarthi. 10 minute. Oh my God. When it will be over it's like ever. And then meditation look torture. So that's been. What does that mean? The. The mind is too much active and body is not balancing with the mind activity. So that means we need to bring activity. So then what we do in active meditation we do a lot of activity. You jumping, dancing, breathing, doing yoga, whichever way, whatever body activity involved. And you do lot of body activity to bring balance. The mind activity and body activity, they both come in the same level. And you do the body activity for let's say 20, 30, 40 minute. And then you sit silently. So that's why. And then it's easy to sit silently after the when you do the activity because your brain and the body both come in. The fame label is synced. Yeah yeah. So we called them active meditations. In the active meditation yoga is there breath work, is there. Lot of dance meditations are there. Tantra meditations are there. Most popular is the Osho meditations are there. So lot of different, different meditation techniques are available. Then the third one which is more higher level, which is more for advanced people which is like passive meditation technique. That means you sit silently and simply observe your breath. Which is the most popular, we called it Vipassana. You start sitting silently and observing your body, observing your emotions, your thoughts, your breath. And you really trained your brain to observe. Because most of the time our mind lives mechanically. When you eat, we are thinking. When we walking, we are thinking. I'm talking to you, you listening me. But still we are thinking. So everything we are doing two action or multi action together. That's why we are not there. So we train the mind. Can we just do one task per time? If we are walking, let's only walk. If we are talking, let's only talk. If we are sit silently, let's only observe. So you train the mind for the observation. These are the basic meditations technique. Now when you start your journey, you start the Journey from guided meditation. From guided meditation to you go to active meditation. From active meditation to you go to the passive meditation. And then the last stage where no technique left your brain enough mastered to live in observation, to live in present, to live in here and now. And you drop the technique. Then you start live meditatively. Then meditation is not a technique. Meditation become the lifestyle. You wake up. You wake up with aware. You sleep. You sleep awarely. You eating food. Eating food awarely. Making love, have great sex, also being aware. So you learn the art. How can I live in presence? How can I live in meditation? How can I live in this moment? That's a stage.
You know, I. There were so many amazing kind of meditations and. And leaders that were on the I am Creation retreat that Alona put together. And I have to say that, that your active meditations were very, very active. I felt completely alive. And it wasn't until you just mentioned the fact that you then rest because at the end of each of them there was that lay down or collapse or whatever. It was just where you are. And it. It wasn't with relief of having finished exercise. It was actually just with complete peace. Yeah. And now that I think back of it, because one of the things. And you know, I was an explosives engineer and, you know, everything was about risk assessment and consequence and likelihood and what's happening in the future. I was the kind of person that went to the nightclub with my friends and sort out where the exit was just in case something happened and I had to get everyone out.
Oh my God.
I was always thinking ahead. So I. I've just. I've kind of considered that as a. A strength, like a superpower.
Yeah. Yeah.
But it wasn't until your meditation and Mat's meditation and. And the combination of those days together where I actually had what felt like a wall to the. To the future. And for two active days I was like, I can't even think. Think of the future. I can't. There's nothing there. And even, you know, it's a month or so since we've been back. I still have this sense.
One second, one second, my earphone has fall down. One second.
That's what happens when you get so active. Right. You've lost your head.
Yeah. I think one second, I think. Yep. I found it out. Can you check it? Yeah. So I don't know. It's keep. When I'm so much active and enjoying it is the. It happens. Yeah.
So it's even like a month later now. I still feel a veil to the future, like that being in present. And you had a lot of. Which I'd love to get into later. A lot of techniques to help people being present. But the one that I'll share more detail with later is when I said to my husband, I've now learned how to do a tantra massage. And he was like, whoa, oh, let's go. And then I gave it to him. He's like, that was the most peaceful thing I've ever had. He's like, I just felt like going to sleep. Like, it was. So. It was all about being present.
And what.
And what you taught in that was that presence. And I think that's, you know, one of the things that I completely appreciated and loved about you is that every moment you're acting in the present and. And that's such an incredible gift to see in someone. And so I really thank you. I really thank you for that, because I think unless you kind of get a chance to meet someone who is such an epitome of what they're teaching and it's. It's like, I'm sure you have bad days, but, you know, it was just like, no matter what you're experiencing, it was always on your face. Like, you are always in the. Rather than, you know, what are people going to think? Or isn't this amazing? Or isn't this terrible? I don't like this food. You know, whatever it was, everything was on your face, and it was just like, usually joyous. So I really appreciated that because you really. You really gave me the example of saying and living with you for eight days. Right. You know, got a chance to see each other a lot, but you. You were always just there. And that's, you know, when you talk to someone, often you have the sense that they're thinking about the next thing or they're listening so they can get ready to talk, or, you know, they're. They're not quite all present. And. Yeah, your. Your gift of doing that is something that, you know, truly, if I now think of an enlightened person, I think of your example of being in the present. And what strikes me, you know, when I'm thinking about this book and people awakening and all these kind of things, is that it's. Although it's hard, it's actually a simple concept, isn't it, of just choosing to listen to yourself and be centered, like you said.
Yes. Honestly, meditation or to living in a present is not a difficult. It's a commitment that you take this commitment very deeply that I choose to Live in awareness. When you take that commitment, then you able to observe it. You able to observe what kind of thoughts are going on and you consciously choose the right thoughts. So let's example, we discussed a lot gratitude. So what is my inner process permanent? Let's say I woke up. When I woke up, the first thing, very, very first thing, I open my eyes, wait few second on the bed and just feel this gratitude. This very simple gratitude feeling that I exist. Who knows if I not wake up? Like, are we really owners?
I made it through another guy.
Yeah, another day, you know. So you just feel this wake up that you know that I have another day and I'm very, very grateful. Then you also feel a grateful to the parents because it's a very, very important to feel gratitude to the parents because they bring us to this planet. Yes, you can have a good relationship with them or difficult relationship with them. Still you cannot ignore. They are the main tree. They are the tree which bring this golden fruit, which is you. So we need to respect the tree. So you feel gratitude to them. Then you gratitude to your love. I always tell lover, current lover, your future lover, all the men and women, whoever we attracted as a lover, they are really, really our teachers, our masters and they help us a lot to grow. So you take a little gratitude to them then to your teachers. Like I meet you, you meet me. We all are students and teachers of each other. I learn a lot from you and you learn a lot of from me. So whoever coaches, teachers, masters, we learn and we inspired from them. You feel gratitude to them then to the life that I'm so thankful for this life and this body, this juicy, sexy, divine body which is working day and night. I put all chocolate, all coffee for my belly and by my belly always love me. So I'm thankful for the belly, I thankful for the legs, they are walking a lot. I'm thankful for the hands, I'm thankful for the eyes. And so much gratitude for this body. And honestly Jane, it takes only 10 minutes. Only 10 minutes. And when after this 10 minute, your whole days change. Yeah, you just, you just live with this, you know, very peaceful gratitude, thankful, amazing way. And then you radiate this energy of gratitude. Then you meet people like Zen. Then you meet people so much magical people. And they, they all love you, you all love them because you creating this energy of love. You creating this energy of gratitude. And I think that's helped me a lot. And then the second thing again, this commitment that you choose to be live in awareness, you not try to Live in the past thoughts or the future dreams. You just live here and now.
That's just so beautiful. And I. And what I really appreciate about that is that it gives you a sense of orientation and back to intention. Right. We know from neuroscience, if we can set an intention, it sets our brain on a path to almost like a cognitive bias to look for it. And so if we're setting an intention in the morning for gratitude and we're attracting it and. And you know, I have a morning practice, a gratitude practice where I'm. I'm grateful for three things and I'm grateful for one thing in the future, and I try to call it in as if it's already happened. And then I also have a practice around orientations of things that I want to create in the next six months. And it's funny, I have one around the moment of. Around creating, you know, abundance of opportunities and, and gifts and, you know, adventures being called into my life that are aligned to the truth and what I want to create. And it's funny, you know, I had just finished my intentions for the morning and, and really felt into the emotions of them this week, and a friend called and said, okay, I've just hired a catamaran. I've always wanted to sail down the Amalfi coast. We're going, I've got a cabin for you. I'm bringing all the friends. And immediately I was like, oh, my gosh, this is amazing. You know, I've got. Created this amazing thing. It's a beautiful. And then I stopped and I was like, is this aligned to what I really want to do? I'm like, I don't really like the sun. If I'm on a catamaran, I'm going to be below deck. I don't want to miss out from all the friends. But is this really, you know, my true calling or is it just a nice instant moment? And. And I really kind of sat in it and I went, actually, it's nice to call these things in, but it's also nice to have the awareness to go, does this serve me in this moment of where I want to be? And I was like, no, it doesn't. And she's like, that's okay. I've got this other thing I'm doing. I'm like, now that sounds great. But it's interesting just setting up those intentional thoughts of gratitude and calling these things in. It's, you know, it's not a.
It's.
It's not hooey fooey. It's like it happens like I lived.
It happened. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it happened. I think the gratitude, like I'm teaching tantra and if you come to the tantra or if you come to the. Any great spiritual path, any teacher, any master, everybody telling one common thing, let's practice gratitude. Because this life is really gift. We don't know which day is the last day. So please enjoy this life. It is the greatest gift that we have it. Be grateful for what? We really, really receive it. And we receive a lot. We receive a lot. We receive a lot.
I. I did a time spirit meditation once, and it was kind of like, you know, looking at the. The time for the future and, you know, almost not being. Feeling enough. Accepting, you know, not being enough to have all these big dreams and then looking at the past and. And not being, you know, worthy because they've had proven things where things might have gone wrong. And there was this point in the meditation where there, there was this observation which was, if you are sending out every single day these, you know, detective super sleuths into the universe to find exactly what you want, and they come back to the present and you're either in the past or in the future, and they're not there, you're not there, then you miss out. And the good thing is that they come back every day, right?
Yeah.
Always there to serve you. But it's. It makes me wonder, you know, having. Having had, you know, people have had maybe a tragedy or trauma in their life. And I know you shared an experience about a master who, who. Who spoke to one of their students about something that happened 25 years ago. And I'd love you to share that story. But it struck me with that story. A lot of people are living in the past, so regurgitating something that doesn't serve them and causes no vengeance on the person involved, but it is the punishment for themselves. So could you just explore that for me for a moment?
Yeah. So first thing we need to understand what is trauma. The trauma means something happened bad, which I didn't like it, which I don't want when it happened. It frees body. It is too much that my whole system freeze. Now, the subconsciousness is very strong. They don't want to hurt you. So what the subconscious mind did they take that experience and really, really buried down into the subconsciousness and give you the feeling in the consciousness that is okay, Everything is okay. Keep going. Nothing happened, don't worry about it. And you just have a vague memory that something bad happened, good happened, I don't know. But let's keep move on now because you don't want that experience. You don't accept that experience. It make freeze your system then is stuck there forever. And then from the subconscious it will come to your body, it will come to your emotions. And it will create this negative feeling senses this, this like a. Like a VCS circle in your system. So then you keep attracting more and more dangerous situation because of that one situation that you not agree and accept it. And then the VCS cycle come always and always going on. So what is the eastern way? What is the eastern way? The to be held, to be handled. The trauma. The spiritual way. Simple is first accepted one thing. Always remember whatever happened in the life, it is happened for Microsoft growth. It is happened for my awakening. It is happened to make me grow and rise. So even all difficult, traumatic, unpleasant situation, they all come to make me grow. So first thing accept it, that I accept that situation. Second thing, forgive the one who give the trauma. That's a very difficult because we lot of anger, we have lot of frustration. We want to fight, we want to destroy. But you need to forgive it. Because the person who give the trauma, who give the pain, that person already in the trauma, the person already in the pain, a healthy person cannot anyone. If I'm a happy celebrating gratitude, if I'm enjoying my life, do you think that I can hurt anyone? Do you think that I can cheat anyone? Do you think that I can broke anyone? No, because I'm happy, I'm joyful.
So hurt. Hurt people.
Yeah. So only a person who is sad, only a person who has a pain, they give the trauma. So when you tell forgive it, you actually forgive those because you understand they have the pain, they have the bad life, they have the traumatic life. That's why they give me trauma. So I want to forgive them. That's a. That's the second step.
That's hard, right? That's. I mean it's beautiful how you maximum that it helps. But still, you know, it's hard.
It's hard.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's a hard because you need to see from that point, like let's say somebody cheat me, somebody hurt me. That means this person really has a problem. This person really has a difficult life. This person don't have any joy. This person maybe he can be in the Mercedes or show I'm the greatest person, but who knows in the alone he feel lot of loneliness, frustrated, and he don't have any joy. So you forgive them because they are already have enough pain, enough trauma, enough sadness. Then the Third step, you forgive yourself. And that's the even more difficult because let's imagine a trauma happened when I was at the age of example. Example. A trauma happened when I'm age of 18, now I'm 40. If that trauma is still haunting me, then who is the real person culprit? Because that the person who gives the trauma when I was 18, he give me one day. And if I just accept that situation, forgive himself, forgive myself, I free from the pain. But no, I love to be a victim. I become love affair with my own trauma. I really enjoy this trauma. And it's hard to believe it, but I'm the one who enjoy the trauma and take care of the trauma. 20 years in my life and I'm start traumatize myself every day, Every day, every day. So you need to also forgive yourself that, that I attach with the trauma, that I stuck with the trauma, that I not able to let go, that I not able to accept and forgive. And that's the simple way to free from the trauma.
You know what really strikes me with that is that when someone has, I'm using a similar, similar kind of experience. If someone has a belief like they've got something to get love, I need to be the good girl, I need to be the boy who gets all the good marks. And whatever it is, they have a belief. And if you make someone aware of that belief and it's no longer it doesn't serve them, it creates a pattern of maybe attracting the wrong people or being exploited or being put on a pedestal and not truly loved or who they are, whatever that is. If you show them a belief and they accept it, which is this second kind of step of yours. If they accept or first step they accept actually shows them that for the last 40, 50 years that they've been living, they have been living a lie. They have been living.
Yes.
I think that's why it's really hard for people to let go of their beliefs. Because the acceptance of that belief is that they've been living a lie. But what you've then done is brought that to forgiveness. And it actually allows you to look at yourself and go, I'm only human. It's an experience. I now see it. It doesn't have to be perpetuate in the future. And I forgive myself for holding that belief every day. Which is similar in how you treating trauma. It's like, you know, I'm not saying the person was right. I see them for who they are as a human in their role. But I also forgive myself Because I've held on to this and I've. And I'm sorry for that.
Yes, so very beautiful. What they explained it that when I tell to forgive yourself actually come from that space. That I'm the one who really stuck in that trauma. I'm the one who. Who forgive myself. And then I'm the one who attracting the more bad situation which I don't deserve it. So you also forgive yourself and then you goodbye. Then you goodbye to the trauma. You goodbye to the people who traumatized you. You goodbye to the situation. And tell thank you you came. I learned it. I learned my lesson. But now you not serve me. Please leave me. Yeah, simple, simple. And you allow it to leave. You allow it to leave.
That. You know, it's. It's interesting because you talk about every spiritual and. And you know, teachings around gratitude. You know, everyone talks about gratitude. But there's also that second theme of forgiveness, isn't it? Forgiveness is when they. They put, you know, detectors on monks heads when they meditate and they have people go through different things. It's when they go into forgiveness, they go to like theta state or whatever it is really quickly. So it is so powerful in. In what it does and shifts in you in yourself. So interesting.
Like. Like also one thing like you know, with the forgiveness. Like let's imagine when I like you knows it like I was 14 year old. I become very dramatic person. Want to be Buddha enlightened or go to my path. But it hurt my papa mama.
Yeah, yeah.
They really feel what the happened. We have such a cute boy. He should be married, he should hold a business. And I become crazy. I'm living in ashrams, living in jungles, going to the meditations. And then later on even I decided to not to get married to be travel the world. So for them it's really a lot to handle. But from my perspective, I always feel no, they don't understand me. They not understand me. They not understand me. What meditation teach me that actually I need to understand them because they not choose the path of love, they not choose the path of Basana, they not choose the path of Tantra. They simply follow the system of society. I'm the one who choose kindness, compassion, love, Vipassana meditation. So first I need to accept them. And then I go first and ask forgiveness that Papa, mama, I love you so much. I know that you have some hope and expectations and I'm not able to fulfill it. Can you please forgive me? And this attitude of my forgiveness. Yes, it takes a little time because they keep fighting and starting. And I remember my papa keep fighting and I keep loving. He keep fighting, I keep loving. Then one day he called to everybody and tell, you know, you are such a great son and you love me so much. Why you not follow what I tell? I tell I love you. But still it doesn't mean I will follow what you tell. I have freedom to live my life. But also that doesn't mean I not love you. And when you keep giving them love, when you keep telling them, please forgive me, now I have the best connection. This is the time of my life. My father meditate every day. My mother meditated in my whole family. Meditation is the only key. Because they now see that our angry young boy Satyarthi now change and able to share love. Why cannot we? And this is the major problem when the lot of people come to meditations and spirituality. They hoping my husband should understand, my children should understand, my parents should understand. Oh, my dear, they don't need to understand. Yeah, you need to understand. You need to accept. You start compassion. If you show compassion and love first you have the great relationship. And then they feel courage to add meditation, spirituality in their life. Because the fee you change it. That's the power of forgiveness.
I tell you what's landing with me with this is that you called out right in the beginning that this is just an amazing time in history because there's so many people, you know, seeking this spiritual awakening. They're asking, what else is there? What's fulfillment? What. What is my purpose? What's my legacy, my impact? You know, And I think there's a chance, and I'd love your opinion on this. There's a chance. It's almost like the, let's say the swinging 60s and the kids are revolting. They're saying, we're not going to war. And there's anger and there's protests and there's riots. And they're like, you don't understand us. You're old fuddy duddies. There's a chance that there's a righteousness around those that are seeking this path and an apathy towards what they're leaving behind and even an anger and resistance. And you don't understand. And what I'm getting from you is that there's an opportunity for the coexistence. But it is the people who are on a path to actually live their truth and live an inspired state from their heart. It's them turning up every day, loving those that have chosen not to and accepting their choice.
Absolutely, absolutely. Like you really nailed it. What I'm going to tell it because you know, I several time I feel sad in my heart because I'm teaching tantra meditation. A lot of people come to workshops and they keep fighting with the parents, they keep fighting with the husband, they keep fighting with the children. And I'm telling what you guys doing. Why you are hoping they should understand you. Why you not understand that they not choose this path. You choose it. You need to give an example. So for my example was that when I come back from Vipassana Papa Mama is my exam. Okay. If meditation really happened to me, then when they criticize me, when they triggered me, when they say ugly words to me, when they make fun of me, can I go back with anger? That means I'm a little satyarti, I not grow up. Or can I go and hug papa? I know that you love me and you hurt. That's why you tell all the nasty things. But I know I'm your you love me and I love you. And I'm sorry. And I. I remember they fight, I say I love you, they fight, I say I love you. And then one, two years they like guys is impossible to tell anything. Yeah. To be satyarti. You just keep telling you I love you and keep laughing and dancing. And mama and papa both came and tell please give us a meditation. You know we want to practice. Something happened.
You've worn us down.
Yeah, see, like maybe there is something which we don't see it. Can we practice also meditation? So I think when the parents are not practicing meditation, lot of women ask it how I can bring my husband to meditation, how I can bring my children, my family love them, love them so much. Do not when they fight with you, you need to give love. When they criticize you, you need to give love. They ask you what the happened to my wife? She's so loving. She never so much loving to me. And then husband come, okay, tell me what meditation you're doing. I'm jealous.
Now I want what she's having. Hello, just a quick message. I hope you're enjoying this podcast bonus session. Now if you have heard this interview, then you're probably sitting in there going, what is this all about? Well, this is all about my exit the matrix experiment. Now I decided to write a book because I'm really interested in how do we go from the existence that we have now to exiting the matrix and living with intention from our hearts, following our hearts desires, but also creating abundance in all areas of our lives. And hence whilst I've been researching this book. I thought this is a really solitary journey. I want people to come on this journey with me. And hence I've got this very special group. Now come and join me. The first month for founders is free. And if you decide to stay, fantastic. So what I'm doing is I'm interviewing incredible people. I'm getting insights about what's this awakening that people are getting, you know, what is the Exit the Matrix kind of sliding door moment for them. Now, I've obviously run this podcast for over a year now, and I have more than 30 stories. But I'm also interested in those people who are in this transformational space, who are actually not just awakening themselves and they're awakening others. What is the mechanism? As Bashar talks about it, it's the permission slip. Are they going through astrology or meditation or yoga or breath work? Are they just going within and getting a sense of what's really going on? So that's what all the Exit the Matrix experience about. I'm going to let you get back to the interview, but if you want to join me, go to Exit the Matrix. Dot today forward slash ETM with me, which stands for Exit the Matrix with me. So that's Exit the Matrix. Adopt today forward slash ETM with me. Sign up. I'd love for you to come along. I'm creating courses. There's currently courses in there around 4D gratitude. There's more courses to come. I'm creating custom GPTs on how you can exit the Matrix and helping you uncover what lies beneath your subconscious and holding you back. And Also other custom GPTs that I'm sure you're going to love. And most of the speakers are actually really motivating me. So I'm creating courses. I'm creating ebooks, I'm creating experiments you can try. I'm creating tools that you can use. And I'm also writing a book. So at some stage I'll get to writing the book. At this moment, it's just all about the research. And I hope you choose to join me because I'm really excited about this experiment. So I'll get back to the interview now. Enjoy yourself. And as always, here's to your success.
Yeah, what kind of trip you are. I want that trip too.
It reminds me of some family drama that was playing out in my family and everyone was in a very heightened state. And I said something that was just an observation. And I remember my sister turning to me saying, it must. Must be nice being this positive attitude all the time. Suppose so. Yeah, but yeah, that, that is beautiful. Well, look, I do need to get to the five poisons because I need to know how we can get to the remembrance. But you know what? I really feel quite emotional about the conversation we've just had because the awareness that you've given me is that there is a. There's a beauty in accepting yourself, but it's a beauty. It's beautiful to accept other people's path and see them as powerful people as well. And they're on their own journey. And all you can really control is yourself and your own thoughts and your own feelings and where you're turning up and your awareness, you can't control anyone else. So, you know, and being, you know, on a path that you think is the right path because it feels spiritual and awakening or whatever it might be is. It's just a path for you to tread. But everyone else has their own path. So just get on with you. Really? Is that what.
That's why, you know, that's why it is that what the enlightened master teaching us? What the all spiritual path teaching us compassion. So if we are in the right direction of awakening, the person become more and more compassion and the compassion mean you become more and more tolerant. You more and more accept yourself, accept others and accept life. What is happening? If you choose a meditation or spirituality and conscious growth and you tell my meditation is the correct meditation, my God is the correct God, my religion is the correct religion, my spirituality is the correct spirituality, then that means we become egoistic, that means we lose the compassion, that means we lose the tolerant, we lose the acceptance. And that means we are not on the right track. So the only exam is if anyone choose the path of spirituality, meditation, enlightenment, awakening, that's mean this person become more and more compassionate. Compassionate to yourself and to others. That mean true acceptance. Acceptance.
Yeah. It's interesting because, you know, I am obviously researching what is it to live an abundant life in all aspects of your life. But I've chosen that as if people want that. And in actual pack, some people may not want it and that's just fine. And so there isn't so moral high ground to go. I found the answer. I've spoken to the enlightened ones and here it is. It's. It's just an observation that this is one path and this is something that I choose to pursue because I assume some people may, but if they don't, they don't. And, and that's okay too. And it just strikes me when you talk about compassion is going Back to your. Your example about yoga and being centered. And even though there could be resistance and you can't do the pose and you know it's hard and it's teaching your body that in times of hardness, you can still be joyful and accepting that compassion is almost how you should treat hard times as well and treat yourself, isn't it?
Yes, yes, yes. And also you know what? I also apply that my gratitude. Practice, practice. Also help me. Let's say if I have a difficult situation, I feel more gratitude. Simple reason is that because let's. I always tell that story. Let's say I'm a little child and I go to mama and tell mama, give me one chocolate. Mama love it. Mama, give me one. I become greedy. Mama, give me two chocolate. Mama, give me two chocolate. And I'm dancing. Yay, Mama love me, Mama love me. Then I become more greedy and I tell mama, give me three chocolate. This time. Am I angry? Enough is enough. You will destroy your teeth, you will destroy your belly, you will destroy your health. I will not give you. And now I'm crying. Now I'm doing all the tantrum and criticizing that mama not love me. That's the attitude. We all have it towards the life. Now see the same example. The life is our mama. Life is this whole existence is our mother. So let's say if I ask one desire an existence, fulfill it very gratitude. If it's not fulfilled, poor gratitude. That means my teeth will destroy, my belly will destroy, my health will destroy. Because I don't know, I'm a little child, I can ask anything. But the mother, the life, the existence, they knows much more. So when the difficult situation came, can I be also gratitude and grateful for this situation? Because this is exactly I need for my growth. And that's how the compassion and the gratitude start merging together. That's how this yoga, understanding the difficult situation, you can be joyful.
Okay, I have to confess. I grew up on a farm in the country. And so country and western, like there was two types of music, country and western. And there was a singer called Garth Brooks and he had this song that was called thank God for unanswered Prayers. And, and that's what I'm hearing. There is that, you know, there, there is these prayers at the time, you know, all these thoughts or these wants or these needs that are kind of like this is so important to me. But in actual fact, by actually accepting that it didn't happen and being grateful for it anyhow, the next step is there. The next door is Open because there is a bigger plan and there is a bigger mission.
Yep, yep.
Country and western always comes back to country western.
Yes, yes, yes, yes. And also now, like, you know, you also have a very, like, what is my learning with you? You really have a very great attitude to be how you see the life and how you always find a very beautiful way to be learning to being positive, to be happy, to be joyful. And it reflects you, it reflects in your aura, in your energy, in your faith. And that's why it's very joyful to conversate, to talk with you.
Well, you know, they say you can't see anything in someone else. It's not in yourself right now. Five poisons we're getting, we're getting because I want to get into tantra. I mean you're bringing tantra to the western world. Like you've taught hundreds of thousands of people this incredible practice. And I know there's people who want to know about it. I know that it's a modality that even with the active meditations that I've done with you have been, you know, they're in my mind very actively in my mind. I'm going to, I'm going to have to make this a daily practice. But let's just go to, to, you know, back to this original question which is there are experiences, there are traumas, there's great events, there's all of these things that have made us who we are. And there's this layering also at that time of how we protect ourselves and how we think things should be. And there's these five poisons that as we unravel them, bring us back to really our true essence. So if you could take me through those, I'd be really, really thankful because I think with each of those there's, there's an awareness of maybe what we can do in our daily life to be aware of them and deravel them.
So when we talk about like this heavy words of enlightenment mukti Nirvana, it's a very amazing heavy words in reality. What is the meaning? The meaning is ultimate freedom of your consciousness. Most of the time our consciousness in the box, the box is given by religion, culture, society, parents, grandparents, education, all they are the country, whichever country we born. Every country have their own belief system. So they given their own belief system and boxes that to lock our consciousness enlightenment mukti Nirvana means that you slowly, slowly, consciously keep checking yourself and make your consciousness free from a different, different boxes. The boxes which is put by society, education, religion, all the boxes you are leaving it now. Then what is the flow chart? The flow chart. The path to be free. Your consciousness is. You are checking the consciousness. Does my consciousness reaching to the pure state or it is corrupted by the poison? So in tantra, in spiriti we talk about five poison. And the only meaning of enlightenment is to make free our consciousness from these five poisons. Let's talk about what are those five poisons. The first poison. Calm. Calm means desires. Lust. The lust. The desires. The. The ongoing lustiness. The ongoing desires. The this poison attack our consciousness and our consciousness never free. What does that mean? So let's imagine everybody's teaching us. Let's fulfill one more desire. Then I become happy. Let's have one car, I become happy. Let's make one more house, one more car, one more business, one more bank account. One more. This.
Yeah.
And since if we just check if it's my happiness is really depend to fulfill the desire. Then why I'm not happy today? Because since the born till right now maybe I fulfilled 10,000 desires. Like I fulfilled to be go to college, go to school, have a car, have this. We all fulfilled 100,000 desires. But still the brain tell let's have one more. Then you become happy. So happiness is not depends on the desires. Happiness is not descent depend on this urge of love. Happiness is dependent to free from desire that I have everything. Happiness is depend to free from this lust that I fulfilled, I completed. I'm enough. If I feel that I'm enough, I'm completed. I have everything. You are happy right now. So the path of spirituality, the path of tantra is to make us free from the first poison. It's about to be really free your mind to free your consciousness from this hundred thousand desires. And do not waste your life to fulfill one after another desire. That's the meaning of rat race. You remember the rat which is keep running, running, running. And there is a cheese. And it's keep thinking that I will got the cheese. And in the end he just died. But never get the cheese. That's how the system the metrics wanted. That's the mean of metrics that we are in the metrics which is continuously total media, tv industry, media, newspaper. They're pampering with you hundred thousand desires. So you never free from it. And you think if I fulfilled it, I'm happy. What is spirituality?
What's this mechanism though Sagivati?
That. That.
That when we. We like when I have the big TV that I'm saving so much for all the. You know the. The Beautiful home. When I have it, I'll be happy. What, what's the thing that just then goes next desire? Rather than sitting in that happiness. Well, what is it that stops us? Is it, is it our brain or our subconscious, you know, trying to keep us in the limit loop? Or is it the fact that we have had so much conditioning from all of those different things that we get this sense of actually check in quickly, am I happy? No, I'm not. This must have been the wrong thing. Like what is that?
Because the we we not understand the nature of mind. Mind cannot be satisfied. So let's imagine mind all game is to be. Give me more. So let's say Mercedes is only enjoyable until you don't have it. So you keep seeing, my friend is driving Mercedes, my uncle is driving Mercedes. And one day I work so hard to achieve the Mercedes. The moment you buy the Mercedes and drive it mine tell, oh, you have it. Let's have Rolls Roy. Let's have now rolls Roy. And suddenly happiness gone. Now the Rolls Roy. You get the Rolls Roy. Mind will tell. Let's have private plane. You have a private plane. Let's have a rocket. You have the rocket, let's go to the Mars. And it is never, never ending. Never ending. Because this is the nature of mind. Mind cannot be satisfied. So what is the now spiritual understanding? If I understand the nature of my mind, that it cannot be satisfied. So now I'm not running of hundred thousand desires, which is mind continually pulling. Because I know that it will anyway not give me happiness. So rather than to running for desire, I'm come to my own inner space that I have everything.
Yeah.
And then you choose the purpose, the inner feeling would give you joy. What give you joy. And you take action from that inner space of joy rather than a mental state to fulfill one more desire.
That's hilarious, isn't it? Really? It's funny. It's funny. You gotta go, wow, that brain's so clever. You know, it's keeping me in this state of angst that there's something want. And it's just like that little piece of cheese in front of the mouse is like never going to get it. Okay, all right, so number one, this.
Is our first point.
I have everything I want. I'm joyous. Now what brings me joy.
Yeah.
Okay. Dissolve.
Yeah, yeah. So. Oh wow. Desire. Dissolve. That's amazing. So, yeah, so the first poison desire. And the solution to free from this poison is I have everything. Whatever I need it right now in this moment. For to being happy. I have it no desire, if fulfilled it. The result cannot make me happy. I am happy right now for this moment, to feel happy. I have everything. That's the first thing, the first solution.
I tell you the funny thing that comes to mind. You know, when you go to weddings, they're like chicken, beef, chicken, beef. And you always want the thing the person has beside you. In an actual fact, all you just wanted was a meal. Yeah, I'm good. I've got the food.
I'm good.
Let's move on. It's the company and the wedding that we're here for. Okay, all right. Chicken or beef? I've got the meal. Got it.
You've got the meal.
Desire dissolved. Second point.
Now, the second point is anger. So most of the time our consciousness is corrupted by the complaint, by the negativity, by the frustration, by this and out of this, because we have this mind who love to be negative. We have this mind who love to be complained, who love to be gossiping. And all together, it gives the frustration, it gives the anger, and that makes our consciousness corrupted, that make our consciousness poisonous. So what is the solution here? That to work on the mind rather to see that negativity, complain, you really, really settled in the gratitude. You really, really like. You really focused on the gratitude rather than negativity. You need to always remember the negative people are the most angry people. The people who always see negativity, they see a lot of problem, they see a lot of complaint. And when you see the complaint, when you have a lot of complaint here, you have a lot of negativity here. It goes to the belly and create an emotion of anger.
Right?
So we need to really, really unwired our brain from negativity, from complaint to the positivity to the gratitude. And you see, the happy people are not angry people. If I'm happy, if somebody hit my face, I hug and tell, oh, brother, today you have a bad day come.
That's a stretch. But so this is interesting. I would have. I would naturally was like, he's gonna say it's forgiveness, but it's gratitude, anger. Because forgiveness implies that there's someone else involved. Whereas actual fact, anger is something you do to yourself. So therefore, that's why gratitude, which is an internal kind of observation, is the answer to anger.
Yeah, the real, like forgiveness is the. After gratitude, you can enter to forgiveness, you cannot enter forgiveness directly, because if you don't, if you don't have gratitude, you are cloudy, you cannot see anything. So let's say gratitude is the first step. And forgiveness is the second step. So if you tell me the solution of anger is gratitude and forgiveness.
Okay, so anger, Anger is one of the poisons that keep us from our subconscious being free. Because it's something that is really connected to a negative orientation which kind of keeps us hidden from the positive things in the world. And hence, if we're grateful even for things that don't work out, we're actually setting the intention and setting, I guess, the attitude of how we want to turn up. And that's why it dissolves the anger.
Yeah. And. And also now, like you will see that lot of magic is permanent happening. But if our mind is permanency, negativity, permanency, complaint, you are closing your own door of. Of happiness. Like, you know, that's why sometimes spirituality is very painful. Because spirituality tell if you are misery, you are the responsible. If you are in the pain, you are the responsible. If you are in the trauma, you are indispensable. Because nobody in this life want to make you miserable. Nobody in this life want to that you have traumatic or painful or sad life. It's only you. Because your brain somehow stuck in this vicious cycle of negativity, complain, criticism, and you clean the door of happiness.
It's. It reminds me of a story of two men sitting on a bench. And one is kind of like a bum, and he's down on his luck and he's homeless. And you know, he's really at the bottom of humanity's kind of life cycle. And then there's this guy also on the bench, and he's in this beautiful suit and his hair is manicure and he's got, you know, you know, a wallet full of money. And he's obviously quite affluent. And they say to the homeless man, why are you like you are? And he says, because my father was an alcoholic. And they say to the other man, why are you like you are? And he says, because my father was an alcoholic.
Yes, that's how it is. That's how it is. That's how it is.
You get to choose.
You have to choose. You have to choose.
Don't choose anger. Okay. Poison. 3.
Greed. Greed means that our mind again never satisfied. So he always asking more the mind all focuses what I don't have always on. Always. Like, let's say like you can choose. Like we all have everything. We have two legs, we have two hands, we have two eyes, we have beautiful body. Like we have like we born in human body. I'm not born as a mosquito. I don't born as a fish. Like you, born in a human body itself is a gift.
Yeah.
But our mind won't always see. Okay, I. I don't have one more house. I don't have one more car. I don't have one more big balance. I don't have this, I don't have that. I don't have that. That's why mind don't want satisfaction. Mind. All joy is greedy net. More, more, more. And that is the greatest poison. That is really, really the most dangerous poison. Which is the all reason for misery. This is the all reason of thought. The solution is that you start seeing what I have. And I do this exercise. I remember in my starting days. Because like you know, when you are 14 year old boy, you're not happy with the life you choose. Spirituality, meditation, magic not happen in one day. In the starting years I complain a lot. Why? Why? Why? And I remember one of the exercise that my masters give me to write it down 10 things every day. What I have just the 10 things. What I have and what I really, really admire it and I proud of it. And I do this exercise just for a one month. Just to write down ten things. What I have, what I proud of it, what I admire it. And my brain start rewiring in the one month later I really start focusing what I have. And then slowly, slowly then you never go there that what you don't have. It's okay. It's not my cup of tea. I need to focus. What I have, the what life gave me. It's already enough.
So the greed is that things in your body or your capability and skills. It's not like a car or a house. It's internal things.
Yeah, it's more about that you are that like you can measure in all direction. Like your qualities, your health, your body, your. Your own talents. And even you are even material wise. You can be keep seeing what other people have. That's their life. But can I be gratitude? Can I feel I'm enough that what I have it because you remember we already discussed. I can ask 10 chocolate. But do I really know? Let's say if existence. Let's say I can ask Rolls Roy, but who knows to give me Rolls Roy. The payment. What something else the payment would be I something else. I don't know if at the time.
To work like 70 hours a week to get one.
Yeah, you know, I'm. I'm so much enjoying to be watching sunrise, sunset and all these things. I have a great relationship with my family, with my parents, with my children. I don't know to have Rolls. Roy. What sacrifice I needed and that sacrifice is not need for me. That's why existence don't give me. So you really start so much grounded that what I have. It's perfect.
Wow. And I guess when you start thinking of all, you know, after spending a month really thinking about the things that you have and then you start looking at the desires really if we the the linking of greed and desire of what you might want, it's like, what if I had to give up one thing? What would I give up? And if you've really embodied how much you really are grateful for and you have like. It's like, well, what would you give up? Would you give up a relationship with a child or a partner or a parent, you know, for a Rolls Royce like what, what's. What's payment mean then? If you've actually been embodied how happy you are for the things you've got.
Yeah. Because you need like. You know, I remember the one story when they are talking about it that somebody asking a continuously a life like a very young person who is continuously observing every day the richest man on the city and asking that person life, that person, life every day, every day. And then one day the angel is walking and he just take the hand of this young man and tell do you really want that life? Like, because I see from my perspective you have the best life. But I'm tired of your pain every day, every day you asking, do you really want that life I can give you. But then don't cry. He has all the luxury, he has everything. And you asking me, yes, I want it. Okay, please. From tomorrow when you wake up, you will woke up like that rich person. And the moment the morning happened that he feel he has a lot of pain in the legs, he has a lot of issues in the belly, he has a lot of difficulties in the asthma and the breath. And he cannot really enjoy to just wake up. And he has a habit to keep cycling. And now he. It takes us five minutes to go to the cycle and he don't feel courage to even do the cycling. And then he understand it that what I lost, I give the cost of my health to become to this. So we really don't know. We really don't know that what are the cost, what life gave it. It's perfect. It's really, really perfect. This is exactly. We need it for our.
Okay, great, you've got me. All right. This is going to be an exercise I'm going to do for the next month. But ten things A day. So what is the next one?
Yeah, so the first we already discussed the desires.
Yes.
Second, we discussed the anger. Third, we discussed the greed. Fourth is about attachment. Attachment means that we always believe everything is mine. This is my laptop. This is my home. This is my car. This is my. This is I, me, myself, everything around me. And now this is really give us the power poison. Because then whatever I feel is about me. It will give you a happiness today a lot. But when it got loose, it will give you the same equal amount of pain. So what spirituality is teaching is here? That in this life nothing is mine. We are tourists here. We are tourists in this body. We are tourists in this life. We are not the owner. We are just have a given time period in this body, in this life. And we came to enjoy this planet. So if I go for attachment, if I go for everything. This is mine, this is mine, this is mine. This life will takes anyway everything. You remember the one of the biggest Alexanders who win the every corner of the world. When he died, he told his people that take my hands like that. So people can remember the great king Alexander who wins everything. He also go empty hands. Because we are not the owners here. We are the tourist here. We are the guest here, custodian. And only pain is the attachment. Because when you attach with something. Because this life is continuous moving. In this life, everything is changing. What I have today, it could be possible. I don't have tomorrow. What I have tomorrow, it could be not possible. There is nothing forever. Everything is changing, everything is revolving, everything is growing, everything is dancing. And I cannot attach with anything. If I attach, then I'm inviting my pain. Then I'm inviting my misery. Because sooner or later, whatever you attach it, you will lose it. And that's why a lot of people live in misery. They live in sadness, they live in pain because they feel this is mine. And if I just understand, nothing is mine. My body is not mine. My car is not mine, my dog is not mine, my home is not mine. Everything is given to me to just celebrate, to just enjoy. Then you make your consciousness free from the poison of attachment.
That's amazing. You know, one of the things that that has struck me just hearing you, you speak is people who have been through divorce and. And I hear them talking about my ex, my ex wife, my ex husband. And I heard someone a few years ago say, oh, the father of my children. And she. She had no emotion around that person. But when I hear about people, when they say, you know, my ex, there's Always a charge.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's so that's really interesting because this, even though they're not in their life anymore, they're still claiming them. Right? And so that attachment there, that really. Yeah, that really sits with me because it's. It is around the fact that we almost have an identity also. And our ego has a comfort in the fact that we can point to the things that are mine. And that kind of goes back to the greed and the desires, isn't it? Because it's about that external what people can see too, rather than eternal.
Yes, yes. Even you know, on the deeper subject, if we go anyway, nothing is mine. So that's mean. Even my husband is not mine. My. Like, let's imagine why we have a so much fight in the love and relationship. Because I think this woman is mine. So then I start taking her granted. I start take her love granted. I start taking her care granted. Because I feel it's mine. But let's imagine if I believe she is belong to herself, then I feel more gratitude because then whatever love she's doing this is, she's not mine. She herself then if she give me love, I should be grateful.
Yeah.
Who knows, tomorrow she will not give me this love.
Yeah.
Because she's not mine. She's not my forever. So then you, the moment you start seeing everything that is not mine, you become very grateful once again.
Grateful. Grateful, grateful. Right. It's a source.
Yeah, yeah. So that's again attachment. That's why you see, in the love affair, when there is a no marriage, couples are more grateful to each other the moment they are in the committed relationship sometime or a marriage. What happened suddenly? Why too much fight? Because now you are mine. And now I not feel grateful. Now I feel to love you. It's duty. If you love me, it's your duty. Now there is a no gratitude. So if I can believe that my children is not mine, they are them, that my wife is not mine, she belongs to herself, then all my connections I'm being more gratitude thankful careful. Because who knows if they are not tomorrow here.
It's interesting hearing you say that because I have heard people over the years say as soon as I get the ring on the finger, like, you know, I know that I'm safe. They can't leave at any time. They could leave as if like a bit of a party and a piece of paper and a commitment was. Was going to stop them leaving anyhow. Right? But there seems to be some comfort in the fact that. That when I Own them or there's attachment to that degree, then I can then rest. It's okay, because. And then you start taking it for granted, as you say, because every day it's like, oh, well, they can't. They can't leave because there's a ring on their finger.
And also now, like, also very important also to remember why I want to own them so I can misbehave with them. Let's imagine. Let's imagine. If I know my partner can leave any time, I will be very careful with her. I will be not misbehave with her. I always respect her. I give her more time, I give her more energy. I give her more care, more attention. Now when I know she is mine, she cannot leave. Now I can be demon. Now I can do whatever I wanted. I will take her granted. I not give her time. I not give her attention. And it give me a freedom to be misbehave. So really see why we love safety so we can misbehave with each other.
Well, that's something to think on. You've really blown me away there. Okay, so we're winding up to the fifth poison. And I gotta say, this is. There's a vigilance to this, isn't there? Yeah, there's a conscious living every single moment how you turn up. But it's simple as well. It's just like be grateful for what you got. Be in the present, love what you have, but you have nothing because it's no attachment. So just be happy for being you.
Yeah. To being here to on this planet. So the fifth season. The last one. The papa of everybody.
I'm scared now. I'm scared.
I, me, myself, ego. Ego. Ego is the last one because it's more about that we thinking that we are important. It's more about that our all understanding of our life that this earth is centered around me. And the more we think I'm important, the more we behave worse, the more we live. Ungrateful. Again, gratitude. The more we neglecting things, the more we take things granted, the more we not live in the joy or happiness. Because I, me, myself and this ego never satisfied how much existence gave us. We never happy. We never satisfied. Because ego always wants more and more and more. And the solution is to remember that we are not important. We are just the one wave in the ocean. Ocean is important. Ocean is the life. Ocean is the existence. The existence here before me. It will here when I'm here. It will be here when I'm gone. So the what is the omnipresent the omnipresent is ocean. The existence. We all are just the one wave. And the wave always thinking, you know, oh my life, my story. I born, I rise, touched the peak and then I went away and vanished. It's a 1 million waves are creating by ocean every different second, every wave thinking I'm important. But we forget in the end this is not the story of a wave. This is the story of ocean. This whole life is a story of divine. Is the story of existence, the story of ocean. It is not the story of wave. So be grateful.
Well, you say that and it sounds so simple and I guess it just goes to the fact that if you believe you're connected to everything and you're divine, but your divinity is part of the greater divinity of everyone, then you know, you really do you, you see life as something that is. It's just an experience really, isn't it? And it's how much of the experience that you really want to have. It's the experience of attachment and experience of, you know, trying harder and being important and seeing what you do is as something that is actually getting you closer to happiness. Whereas if you just be like the ocean and just accept that you're just part of the whole and you experience the ups and the downs as an experience rather than having any, making it mean anything, then you actually enjoy life more.
Yeah, simple. If you, if you just, it's like you really, really nailed it. You really said very, very great that if we just understand, not takes things personally, that why this happened to me, why, what is the reason? If we just see this is all the experiences, all the experiences are come for my growth, for my expansion, for my, for my growth, my expansion, for my purpose. These all just are the experiences. And then you just enjoy the game, you enjoy the dance. You not take it so seriously. You not take seriously the game.
For someone who's, you know, like, let's just say they're reading, you know, what we're talking about here and, and they're going, I want that. Like I want this life of non attachment and, and not wanting more and just accepting what I have and, and loving my life and being in happiness. And I get in the car and someone slams in front of me and my coffee spills on me and shit happens. Like, is there something that can bring them back to the moment to get out of. You know, things are happening for me, not to me. Like is there, is there like a, a little switch that you do? Like you can't in that moment, it's like you can't go Gratitude, gratitude. I'm really happy this happened. Like what. What is the everyday kind of thing that people could do?
I think like what is for me the important is to be not react and come to the response. So let's say something happened which I don't like it. The normal way to react and react is always frustration, anger, yelling, negativity or complain. This is my normal reaction because I don't like it responses. Can I not react it? Can I just right now breathe in, breathe out and calm down and to just observe. I just observe it. I'm not telling. You need to be gratitude, gratitude. Okay. You're driving a car and car bump it or somebody bump your car or somebody tell you something ugly or something happened in the office. Boss very dominated today. So a coffee pelled out. I'm not telling people. Thank you. Thank you. It's happened that. No, I'm not telling this. Yeah, it's happened. No, I'm not telling you this. I'm just telling you when any unpleasant situation happen, you have a choice. Either I can react or I can response. So reaction mean automatic this happen and I go my auto zone of emotions. My auto auto zone of behavioral patterns emotions attacking or whatever we called it response is you calm down. You not tell is good, you not tell is bad. You just be there. You take few seconds of your attention to the breath and try to make your nerve system calm down. And when your nerve system calm down, then you take a right step. If that right step is to tell person that please drive car, take care. You destroy my car, then you talk it. If the right step is you tell to your boss, I don't like your behavior. Can we more human here? So you take the right step with the inner calmness. If there is a hesitation and you react it, that's a risk, that's a reaction. Spirituality teaches calm down, come to the peace, come to the harmony. Come to this inner space of silence peace. And then you response it. And response could be as much powerful. You can tell anything if you wanted. If you really feel that person cross your boundary, you very clearly tell that please understand it. I'm not yelling you, I'm not criticizing you. But I feel you genuinely hurting my boundaries and my space. Can I have. Can you please not do this to me? So you can able to speak what you wanted. But your inner space is different. You are not come from the space of attacking, yelling or auto reaction. You come from a very space of consciousness, very relaxed space, very calm down. Inner peaceful space.
It's interesting. It brings me back to what you said right in the beginning, which is that morning practice of gratitude. Like, set yourself up for the day. And if you're taking those breaths and just watching you taking those breaths, then, like, it completely calms me, watching you breathe, like you're insanely a calming person. But taking that breath and, and being conscious of your response, it kind of you. If you're setting yourself up in the day with orientation of gratitude, then you're looking at the situation and you're training your brain from the beginning to look at all the situations in a different way. And so, you know, this is. It is a conscious commitment, as you said, and it is a. A way that. That takes effort and will, but at the basis of it is all very simple, isn't it?
Everything is so simple. It's all about that, my commitment to my happiness. I tell very simple that I love to be happy, I love to be joyful. I so much enjoy my happy mood. So I don't want that this unnecessary situation destroy my life because I love to be happy. So when I woke up, I choose gratitude because I want to be happy. I start my day with my gratitude, with my happiness, and I live consciously because I love my happiness. Yeah, that's it.
And you protect that. Oh my gosh. I have to say that speaking with you is, Is this so calming for me? Like, you, you. It's. You know, I was. I heard someone talk about something the other day, and they were saying that, you know, this person, there's a way of measuring how impactful the words are that people say. And, and they were saying, this person speaks. Every single word means something important. There's no superfluous kind of words. There's nothing addition. And when I hear you speak everything, I'm like, I have to take notes on that. Oh my gosh. I have to take notes on that because every single time you say something, you say something in such a direct way that the resonance of the frequency just goes straight to my heart. And I'm like, well, that just makes sense. I can't even argue it. Like, I want my logical, your brains going, yeah, I want to fight back here and you know, try to find the other angle. But it just all makes so much sense. And I, I'm so grateful for you for that.
Oh my God, to talk to you. I feel so much blush. I never have so much compliment in a. In a one simple conversation. So my little child is very happy and dancing with all these beautiful words. And praise and I feel like, Well.
I have to say, look, I know I've taken, we've taken a lot more time than we expected. I, I know that one of your missions in the world that you've been charged with by others and yourself is to bring tantra to the world. And I don't want to belittle that and waste, you know, we've got 10 minutes to chat about it. So with your potential permission, I would love to have you back in the future to talk about.
Yes, yes.
And because I think this, you know what, what I love in listening to what you say is that you embody the, the Eastern philosophies and spiritual practices. And at the same time I can, I can sit there and go from a science point of view, this is now just being proven that, you know, when you're in a, a point of reaction, your brain quickly goes to flight, fight, fawn or faint. And it has familiar patterns and it quickly jumps into it and you know, this is what you do. But for the last three, four, five thousand years, Eastern philosophies have been telling us this, you know, yes. Of conscious. And your brain is, this is how it works. And it's kind like, of science is just catching up. And you know, the, the power of meditation, it, I know that it sounds so woo. And you know, when I started working with all of these digital marketers In America like 15 years ago, all of a sudden these people were doing transcendental meditation. I'm like, yes, these are people like, I really think are quite legitimate. And all of a sudden they're talking about tm. I'm like, there's something, there's something weird about them. And then all of them are doing it. I'm like, there has to be something. And then, you know, you're hearing about the Googles and the, the, you know, the big companies that are trying to hack, hack longevity and hack health and biohack and everything keeps coming back to breath and meditation. And I'm sitting there going, wait a second, isn't this what they've been doing for like 5,000 years over in India? And so it seems to me that, you know, I would love to have you back to really go into more detail. And you know, I also know that you've got like a Spotify channel and YouTube channel, which, you know, we'll give, I'll put underneath this because I really want people to, to listen to your meditations and in preparation for us to talk about it. But you've got a center in Bali. But you live in Russia.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's a very, very unique combination. So it's like. I don't know how it works with me. I just. When I start teaching my work tantra meditations out of India. I think first I start with the Europe. I go to Germany, Munich. I also teach in the Greece. Reaching to Koh Phangan, Thailand reaching to Bali. But somehow my path take me to the Moscow. Somebody invited me to the Moscow to teach meditation and tantra. And then suddenly I get viral there. Viral means normally before I get 10, 20 people in my workshop in my event and there I get 100 people. And then I feel okay, if people love me here, then why do we keep traveling to the world and try to be so much hard. Let it relax, see who wants to come to me and I'm available for them. And then right now, wherever I go, a lot of Russian speaking tribe from the Slavic countries always come. That's why we have a school also in Moscow. And we have a school in Bali.
There's some and it's in Ubud. The Tantra Nectar in Bali.
Yeah, Tantra Nectar is our school. And we are now making a community in the Ubud. So from next year we have a physical meditation center would be ready. And we are planning our all offline workshops there. So we don't need to go to the world and renting the resort or the location. We just gonna bring everything at a one place in Ubud and body.
It's interesting, you know, just reflecting on our discussion and discussions that we've had as well. You mentioned to me that you felt that the Russian and and Eastern European people resonated and were so open to Tantra which is really the freedom of the subconscious. Right. Was because they didn't have religion as an insurance. That put us in the box that has kept us in this poison. Right. So you're actually going to the people who are already free.
Actually what I believe it what I see that when we have a very strong religious background, it's very difficult for our mind to try something new. So let's say if I tell let's do breathing, you know. And rather than breathe, if Somebody ask me 100 question why? What is benefit? Why should I do? Da da da da du du. We miss the all point the spirituality teach. Let's become a little children. Let's become a scientist. Try check by yourself what has happened when we have a strong religious background. This ability of a children. This ability of a scientist, somehow we lost. So that's why when we invite people in the meditation program, in tantra program, we always ask them that whichever religion, culture you belong, respect them. We also love that culture and we respect it. But please give us a freedom to at least try, tried it and check by yourself is it working or not?
Wow, Sada Rossi, you've inspired me yet again. I won't be able to sleep and I really appreciate it because, you know, I in exploring this kind of awareness and then, you know, opportunities for people to awaken and, and I cannot wait to introduce people to your active meditations because having experienced two of them in one day, got to tell you, I was very active feeling the spirit. But the, the thing is that I think I, I'm glad that I've had this opportunity because I was going to jump straight to, oh, we're all going to be enlightened. This is great. People are waking up and now how do we stay awake? And, and what you've, you've really even started with in the beginning, which is, you know, people are seeking something and if they're just jumping from one thing to another and one thing to another, it's. It's not a real intention and it's not a real conscious decision that says, all I want is happiness, all I want is joy. And all I want is just to look within and be centered. And you know, what are the things that keep me from that? And by me kind of jumping over the obstacles and going, yeah, yeah, it'll be fine once you're awakened, it's all okay. Don't worry about it. If I had jumped over the five poisons and hadn't acknowledged them and hadn't seen the super weapons that we can use against them, you know, gratitude and forgiveness and non attachment and just awareness, like if, if we jumped over that, then we would lose the way in, in an instance to react to something in the day and have the skills to go, it's okay, I'm going to take a breath, I'm going to see this for what it is and then I'm going to move on.
Yes.
Oh, I love you. I love you. I don't know, I've only just met you, but you are like my friend forever and have been for eternity.
Me too. Me too. I so much you, you know, they are your ability to be like transmitted. Your ability to understand and then put it in the right words so everybody can understand and to be relate with this. That's the one thing which I so much admire. That's why when you explain it, I'm always like, like I really grasp it.
You know, you said earlier the teacher is also the student. And when you said that, I had a reflection on a couple of the students that I've worked with in the last couple of days. And even by teaching, you learn more because you have to be able to explain it in a way that relates to the person where they are rather than just the. The doctrine of what you're trying to explain. And so when you said that, I was like, gosh, in every moment we are the teacher and we are the student. And, and just even that as an observation for this entire call, despite everything else, was such a blessing for me because it now it kind of is like turning up in any teaching situation, but also in that situation where I don't have the ego of the attachment or the power or the hierarchy of how you are. It's like I'm turning up with joy to teach, but to also learn at the same time. So thank you so much for just once again being an example of what you teach because it's beautiful to say and I really appreciate it and thank.
You for to be inviting me here. Thank you everybody who is listening me and Zen together in this video. And I'm also very grateful for to you, to Jen to be give me this opportunity to able to speak and also whatever it comes from my heart that you grasp it and put it even more lighter words, more accurate and better words where people can relate and understand it. And this is my learning that to be how even to be more talk in a way that people can relate it. And that's I'm learning from you. That's my gift for today. Thank you.
Well, thank you so much. Well, look, I'm going to sign off here, but we will be talking again, right? So yeah. And for everyone who's had an opportunity to listen to this and to this amazing conversation, I hope you've taken a couple of points. I hope you've taken a lot of notes. I'm going to go back and watch it myself and take more notes and have more learnings. But there's a couple of things I'm going to take out of this. One in particular is, is that gratitude practice and even more empowering it just in simple things, you, you know, for 10 minutes, the beginning of the day and, and also that seeing what I already have and writing 10 things down a day for the next month and just saying just those two simple things, taking that away, you've made everything perfect.
You made it. You made it perfect. Everything perfect.
Okay, I'm going to sign off here to everyone, as always, here's to your success. Bye for now and thank you to our amazing guests wrapping.
