Hi, I'm Lindsey Baumgren of Nourishmove Love, and this is your upper body tri set workout. It is all strength focused. If you love strength training at home, you gotta hit subscribe to our YouTube channel. All right, you guys, we have a quick and dirty upper body workout for you tri set format, which is new for us. So that's gonna be a lot of fun. And I have some amazing guests with me today. Let's start with Dr. Taylor from the Minnesota Pork Board. We are so pumped to have you, Dr. Taylor. Hey, guys. It's good to be back. Yeah. Well, yes, everybody. Everybody said bring back Taylor, so we had to bring her back. Taylor used to work as an intern for the Minnesota Pork Board, and now, Taylor, you are.
I'm a swine veterinarian with the Pipestone Vet Clinic. I live in southwest Minnesota and I drive to pig farms every day to be a veterinarian for a pig farmer.
And we are so pumped to have her and her wealth of knowledge today. She dropped some fun facts in our previous videos. If you haven't checked those out, we'll link them below so you can check out our previous workouts with Dr. Taylor. But we're so excited to have you back. Back. She is a strength training junkie and she just crushes these workouts. And we have Caroline debut. You guys, this is Caroline's first time on set with us, and this workout is going to be so fun. It is all upper body focused and all strength focused. All you need are dumbbells. We have anywhere from 10 to 20 pound dumbbells. Caroline's going to offer standing modifications for the entire workout. So you can take this entire workout following Caroline if you want to stay standing. And then Dr. Taylor and I will be moving down and up on and off the mat throughout the workout. You guys ready? Yes. All right, let's get this workout started. We are so grateful for Minnesota Pork Board for sponsoring this workout and bringing this content to you guys at home for free. So grab your weights and we're going to get ourselves warmed up and then we'll jump into each tri set. Okay, I'll explain the workout as we get moving. Let's go ahead and start. Feet are just stacked underneath. Shoulder. Let's just go for some good shoulder rolls. Pull the shoulders up towards the ears. Open mouth. Exhale. Roll them back. Let's do it. Two more times. Big inhale and exhale. One more time. Big inhale and exhale. Go ahead, take those thumbs. Those thumbs are going to go up. You're going to reach up. When you get to the top, flip your thumbs down and rotate around some big circles. Up and rotate around some controlled arm circles, warming up those shoulders. Nice. Today is all about the upper body. So we're going to hit our push muscles in the first circuit and then we're going to hit our pull muscles in the second circuit. Two more. Nice work. Last one. Take it up. Now just take those arms and flap them out. Flap out those wings. As you're flapping, you can walk. Woo. Sorry, Caroline. To the back of your space. And we're gonna go for some plank walkouts. So right here you can go for a big inhale. Reach up nice and tall. Exhale forward, fold hands, hit the mat. Walk yourselves out to a high plank. From here you can go ahead. Step your right foot outside your rest. Right hand, switch it out. Left foot outside left hand. Just open those hips a little bit too. Walk it back in and reach up nice and tall. Let's do it again. Forward, fold, take it down, walk out. High plank. Let's go. Step and step. Nice. Just opening up those hips a little bit too, which feels good today. And take it down one more time. This time you are going to hold that high plank position. Go ahead. Big step. Nice work.
Let's step it again.
Big step. Awesome job. From here, you're going to lower all the way down to your belly or Caroline's going to meet you in a quadroop position. We're going to take our hands right here. You can push yourself back if you need to with your weights right there. And we're going to go for some prone backstrokes. You can take your right hand and just reach it back around. Big backstroke, like you're swimming in the water. Lift up and reach back, alternating arms. This is really great way to get that upper body nice and warm as well as great for low back pain. If you have low back pain, I highly suggest this is an awesome mobility exercise. Nice. Let's do one more each way. Push up.
Nice.
From here, go ahead, pull those arms down at your side for some prone back fly. So you're just going to squeeze and squeeze. Caroline's got an awesome bird dog modification for you. Nice. Take this wherever you're at today. Totally strength focused. Nice. Two more. Up. Up. Go ahead. Plant your hands right by your chest again. Tuck those toes under. Push yourself up in one straight line. From here we're going to go down dog. So down dog, high plank. Do it again. Down dog, high plank option. Add on a push up, down dog, High plank. Lower the chest. Push up. Down, dog. High plank. Lower the chest. Push up. Nice exhaling as you push away from the mat. Lowering in one straight line. Two more. Two more. Down, dog. High plank. Push up. You got it. One more. One more. Down, dog. High plank. Push up from here. Shoulder taps opposite hand. Opposite shoulder. Tap it up for eight. Seven, six. You got it. Five. Four. Three. Four, two, one. We're all gonna meet on all fours. We're gonna take our right hand behind our head. You're gonna drop elbow, and then you're gonna open. Drop the elbow and open. Some nice spinal rotations here. Nice. Keep those ribs pulled down as you open. Can you get a little bit farther? One more. Nice. Drop it down. Let's cat cow it. Drop the belly. Lift the chin and reverse it. Nice. Bring it back to center. Left hand behind, left head. Same thing. Other side. Spinal rotations. Drop the elbow and open. Nice. Trying to get a little bit more open with each one. Gaze is going to follow that elbow right up to the ceiling. Two more. Rotate. Last one. Rotate. Nice. Replant those hands. Step back. High plank one more time. Push up and back down, dog. Pedal it out. Walk your hands back to meet your feet. Roll it up one shoulder at a time. When you get to the top, hinge it over one more time down W arms. Okay, so thumbs are gonna go straight up 45 to the side. Squeeze those shoulder blades straight up 45 to the side. Nice work. Hup 45. Finishing that warm up right here, guys. Last set. Last set. 45 to the side. All right, you guys warm? Yeah.
Ready?
All right, you guys, we are gonna knock out this workout. Taylor and I are gonna hit the mat and we're gonna start there. Caroline's gonna give you standing options. We are going into our push circuit. Okay, so you have two circuits. Each circuit has three exercises done three times. That's where tri sets come in. Three exercises, three sets. We're gonna focus on our push muscles. Chest, shoulders, tries. In this first circuit, we're gonna be on our backside. We're gonna go chest press. It's 40 seconds on, 10 seconds off. So your rests are pretty short. Okay. Work time is not that long. 40 seconds. So go heavy with me. It's the short rest and the super setting, back to back that's going to make this a challenge. Your first move is a good old dumbbell chest tuck. I'll be right here. Exhale up. Inhale. Lower with control. Exhale up. Inhale lower with control. Caroline's going to give you a standing Chest slide. From here, we're going to rotate into a kneeling position and go kneeling single arm shoulder press. So have a weight next to you that you want to go single arm shoulder press with. Are you ready?
Yes.
Yes. There they are. Hey, hey. All right, 40 seconds on, guys. 40 seconds on. You are chest pressing or flying in three. Three, two. Let's go. Exhale up. Inhale lower. Control. You got 40 seconds. Big exhale up. Okay, Go heavy here if you can. Nice work. Chest press. We're gonna add a slight variation each time. This is a good old standard chest press. Palms are facing away. Nice elbows. Drop it a little bit more of a 45 degree angle than straight out. Exhale up. Inhale down. Big push up. Nice work. You're halfway, guys. Halfway. Awesome job. Big exhale up. This is your chest and shoulders. We're going to hit just the shoulders in the next move. Nice. You're in those final 10 seconds. It's where it should start to feel a little bit challenging, and it really will on the third set. Nice work. Finish. Three, two, and one. I'm going to switch out those weights and I'm going to come down to a slightly lower weight. I'm going to grab my blue pad here for my sensitive knees. One dumbbell. Let's start it in the right hand. Right hand. Okay. You can step this opposing foot out in front of you. 40 seconds. You're going to bring it here. Single arm Arnold press. You're going to push overhead. Rotate that palm back in. It's 40 seconds and it starts in three. Pull that core nice and tight. Keep those ribs tucked down towards those hips. 2 and 1. Single arm shoulder press. Nice work. Single arm. Can we go a little bit heavy? You're going to do just the right arm one time, just the left arm the other time, and then we're gonna double it up for set number three. Hello. Shoulders right out of the gate. Nice big exhale pushes overhead, rotating that shoulder through its full range of motion. What's your favorite upper body muscle group, Dr. Taylor?
Honestly, anything with triceps.
Anything but triceps. Those are next. Those are next. Ten seconds, guys. If it feels heavy, it should come on. Yes, you can. You got it. 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. Little squinty face. Totally normal. All right, we're going to come down here and we're going to go into a tricep kickback. Dr. Taylor's favorite. We're going to do it from the ground. So I'm going to be right here. Tricep kickback. Nice. Caroline's going to do it standing. It's 40 seconds and it starts in 3, 2. Pull that elbow up and kick it back. Here we go. Single arm kickback. Woo. Might have to borrow one of those. Tension. The 15 starts to feel really heavy. Now you want to control that weight on the up and the down. Not swinging here. Nice work. Again, we're focusing on just one arm at a time, which should allow you to go just maybe a little heavier than you normally could for triceps. Right. Halfway. Feel the fire. Feel the burn. I feel it. Come on. And you go just a hair heavier than you normally would for triceps. Nice. To the hip, straight back. You got it, guys. 10 seconds. Yes, you can. It burns. I know. Final five, four, three, two. And you're out. Those are your three moves and we're going to repeat them. Okay, so back on chest press, back on chest press on your backside or you're with Caroline and you're standing. Back to chest press. We're going to add a slight rotation at the top. 40 seconds in three, two. Let's go. So as I push up, I rotate my palms together. Rotate palms out, palms together. Just going to add a little bit of variation each time we chest press. And like you said, I think Dr. Taylor, did you say you tested the workout? I did, yeah. It's the short rest that make this really challenging, isn't it?
I looked at it and I said.
Oh, this won't be so bad.
And by the end, oh, I was shaking.
Right. We have a reputation around here for these Minnesota park workouts being challenging, especially on the strength front. You might have tried the 45 minute drop set. Arms are legs or Taylor was in the unilateral arms and legs.
Those my all time favorite.
Which ones?
The unilateral. You know, not that I'm biased.
And one. Awesome job. You're up. I love it. Those single leg or single exercises are awesome. And speaking of which, we're gonna go right into a single arm. Other arm this time. Dumbbells in the left hand. Single arm Arnold press. Palm starts facing me and then it goes away. Right? That's where we go in three, two. Let's go. Exhale up. Inhale lower with control. Nice work. Big push up. You put that other arm out at your side for balance. Nice tight core. Awesome. Slow, controlled strength training here. Do you like arms or legs better?
Oh, definitely.
Oh, she's an arm girl. She's an arm girl. Caroline, what are you?
Definitely a leg girl.
Definitely like girl. I'm with You. Except for since my knee surgery, maybe I've become. Become a little bit more of an arm girl. Awesome job. You guys. Stay with it. Come on. Yes. You got 10 more seconds on the shoulders, then we go to the triceps, now officially named Dr. Taylor's favorite muscle group. In three, two. Give me one more shoulder press because you can lower with control. Set it down. Rest for 10. All right, single arm tricep kickback. Left arm only. Left arm only, you guys. Come on. Yes, you can. You're there in three, two. Let's go. Single arm kickback. Nice. Awesome. Keep those shoulders square to the ground. Nice. I always like to think tiny bend. Big extend. Tiny bend helps me control it. Down slow and steady. Big extend helps that big push back. Hold at the top for a second. Squeeze that tricep back of the arm. You got it. Core stays tight. Come on, come on. Yes, you can. Whoo. You are on round two of three, guys. Triceps, they are spicy. Come on, come on. Stay with it. Spicy. Speaking of which, you got any good spicy pork recipes for us, Taylor? I asked her when you're in the final five, four, three, two, and one. Okay, I'll go easier. We'll go back to our backside. Last set, you guys. Last set. Okay, you're gonna do this all these exercises one more time. Finish off these push muscles, and then we're gonna stand up and go. Pull muscle so you're on your backside chest press. This time we're gonna go narrow press. Palms are going to stay facing in. Shoot straight up, lower down with control. That's where we go in three, two, one. Let's just go back to one. Your favorite pork recipe, I think you told us in one of the other videos. Has it changed or updated? No.
I would say the two things that I make easily the most often are pork tenderloin, which, honestly, I just usually take a cast iron, heat it up, do my pork tenderloin. Like, who is three minutes on each side, it gets nice and crunchy on the outside and then put it in the oven.
Nice.
That is one of my all time favorites because it's a nice small cut of meat. So honestly, I get home from work at 5:30. I usually defrost it, work out quick, and then, you know you can eat.
By 6, 30, 7, 3, 2, and 1. She talked us all the way through that one. Didn't make it easier. I like it. I'm all about simple recipes, you guys. Okay, we're gonna go shoulder press, kneeling. You're gonna alternate those Arnold Presses. Or if you got lighter weights and you want to double it up, you double it up. I'm gonna go alternating. Arnold press, alternating. Okay, get those weights in front of your face. We go in three, two. Let's do it. So I'm gonna hit right and then hit left. You can always double this up if you want to. Nice work, Caroline. You also have a favorite recipe. What's yours?
I like doing. I, like, cook the bacon in the skillet and, like, let it cook all the way through, and then I cook, like, saute brussels sprouts in the bacon and mix it together, and then I top it with some eggs.
So the secret is the brussels sprouts in the bacon, right? Yep.
Getting that extra flavor.
Ah.
10 seconds. 10 seconds. Oh, come on. Yes. You can stay in that fire. You're in the final. 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
Whoo. Yeah.
Holy bananas on the shoulders. We are gonna go back to triceps. Caroline's gonna go overhead triceps. Taylor and I are gonna go skull crushers. So you're gonna double up those triceps for the final set. Skull crusher or overhead whatever you choose. Pick your poison. You're there in three, two. Let's go. Last 40 seconds in tri set. New numero uno. Come on, guys. Yes, you can. I'm gonna go with it is about to be. It's grilling season, and we have a smoker. We love smoking a good bone in pork butt. And my kids always think it's so funny because they're like, we're eating a pork butt. A good bone in pork butt. We can. You can shred that. And I just, like, do a classic, like, simple seasoning. So then I could turn it into carnitas. I could turn it into barbecue, like, pulled pulled pork barbecues. There's so many different things we can make with it. We can make tacos that also would.
Be great, like with the brussels sprout egg situation.
Take a break. Let's hear it. Sorry, Taylor. I didn't want to cut you off, but I didn't want to do any more triceps, so. Okay. Sorry. What were you saying?
That pulled pork would also be awesome with that brussels sprout egg situation. Right.
So good on that. All right, we got lots of options for you guys. Add it to the list.
My fun fact about that is pork butts. Actually, it's not the pig's butt.
Okay. I just learned something new. What? What is it? The shoulder. I thought, okay, it is why they call it a pork butt. If It's a pork shoulder. I don't know.
Honestly, I should. I'll Google it and I will get back to you.
We should find this out. Because I always said, they're like, we're eating a pork spot. I'm like, I don't know if that's actually the case. I thought it was shown. It is. So ham is the pork butt. So what? The ham.
Okay.
Okay.
That's a new thing for me.
And bone in. We always get bone in because it's so much juicier, right? You like bone in. It's just so much juicier. Exactly. Nice. Okay, fun facts. We're gonna overlay. Everybody. We gotta overlay those comments. We had so many people say, bring back Taylor. Bring back the fun facts. We had so many people chiming in and said that. I know. Libby said it, Rebecca said it. We're gonna overlay those comments right here. You guys can see, we love Taylor and we're so excited to have her back. And they said, bring back more fun facts. So we have more fun facts with Dr. Taylor that we are just pumped about. I just learned something new. It's not a pork butt. It's a pork. I'm not going to tell my kids. It'll ruin them. All right, you guys, tri set number two is all about your pull muscles. We're going to hit the back and the biceps in three exercises, same format. 40 seconds on, 10 seconds off. Your exercises are a single arm row. We're going to go reverse grip, which is palm, palm out. So we're going to do it all on the right arm. Next time we'll do the left arm. Third set, we're going to double it up. Okay, Single arm, reverse grip row. You're going to go right from that. I'm gonna have to flip out my weights. I'm gonna go heavy for the back, a little bit lighter. Flip grip, bicep curl, palms out, palms in. Okay? And then we're gonna stack it on. You're gonna do stack on row and curl. So you do one row, one curl, two rows, two curls. We'll walk you through it. Start heavy on your back side if you can. We're gonna go one weight. Palm is gonna face out. It's a single arm row on just your right arm. Single arm row on that right arm. Yes. That's where we're gonna go. And we're gonna do it for 40 seconds. Nice tight core, slight hinge forward. Think about pulling elbow to hip or like you're putting your pants on right there. We go in three, two. Let's go. Pull back. Slow. Control, Lower. Pull. Slow, control, lower. Nice. Pulling. Elbow to hip. Lowering with control. Pull. Think about pulling from the elbow versus pulling from that dumbbell. Hold at the top for a minute, squeeze, and then lower with control. I always say if you can't hold at the top for a second, you're using a weight that's too heavy. Okay? So you really want to get that isometric hold up top for just a second. Lower with control.
Nice.
You got it. There we go. I wish I would have known the pork butt fact when we were doing shoulders. I would have been like, this is your pork butt exercise, right? Your shoulder. Five, four. You got it. Three, Three, two, one.
More up.
Slow, control. Down. Nice. I'm gonna flip out my weights for your flip grip. Bicep curl. Shoulders down and back, palms. Start facing out. Soft bend in those knees. We curl in three, two. Let's go. So curl up. Flip the palms in lower hammer style. Back out, palms out, palms in. Slow, control, lower. This is Rachel's favorite move. Everyone, we're missing Rachel today. She's in sunny California while we're filming this. But we have the awesome Caroline stepping up and got the awesome Dr. Taylor. You guys get so many fun people to work out with today. Encourage you in your living room. Nice work. Keep it up. Curl up. Slow. Control, Lower down. Nice. Nice. Nice. Awesome job. Curl it up slow. Control. You got 10 more seconds. This is where those weight should start to get a little bit heavy. If they're not in this first set, let me tell you, they will be in that third set, right? Three, two. Give me one more curl because you can curl up nice. All right, we're going to stack it on. So you're going to hinge over. You're going to give me one row, stand up. One hammer curl. Then we'll go two, two. I'll count you through it. Starting on one row. Hinge it over in three. Two. Let's go. So row, stand up, curl. Take it back. We go two, two. Two rows. Row, row, stand up two curls. Curl and curl back to hinge. Here we go. Hinge it over three rows, row. Two, three. Stand up for three curls. You got it. Curl for three. Nice. Two. Back to rows we go. Four, four, four. Come on, Hyunjin. Let's go. Go four, Three, two, and one. Come on. Here we go. Stand it up. Curl for four. You got it.
Three.
Awesome job. Two, Hinge it over and you're gonna row for the last three, two, and one. Nice work. There we go. All right. Set it down. We are back to the top. Single arm. Left arm only. Palm is out. Reverse grip row. Left arm only. You're rowing in three, two. Let's go. Pull from that elbow up. Slow. Control. Lower down. Remember that squeeze at the top. Pull and hold. Slow control, Lower down. Pull and hold. Slow control. Palm is out. Reverse grip. Getting that middle part of the back. A little bit of bicep involved in that row. You got it. Pull up. Slow, slow, slow, slow, slow. This is a true strength workout, you guys. An awesome, quick and dirty upper body strength workout. You've been requesting more of them. We love it because we love strength training around here. Awesome. But we are breaking down those muscle tissues, which is why we're so excited. Minnesota Pork Board is here because we're going to refuel with some lean pork cuts. Nice final three, two. Give me one more row. Nice work. Flip grip, curl, Flip, grip, curl. Here we go. Palms are going to go out, and then they're going to go in you go. Roll those shoulders down and back. Elbows off the body. Let's go. Curl it up. Flip it Slow. Control lower. It's these quick transitions, short rests that make this upper body workout a true challenge. Right? You can always adjust the weights as you need to try and start heavy. You can always drop them as you need to. Nice work. Keep curling right here. Up, slow. Control. Always about the control on the way down. You got it. That's where that muscle building is happening. Nice work. Awesome job. Keep breathing here. You got it. You got it. We're gonna go stack on style again. 10 more seconds on these curls. 10 more seconds. Stay with it. Nice work. Last 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Gotta set it down. Always a test of my grip strength. Okay, we're gonna stack on those rows. What do we finish with? Four. We're gonna start at four. We're gonna go four rows, four curls, then we're gonna go up from there to five. Yes. We go in three, two. Let's hinge in row. Go. Four. Three, two. Stand up. Go. Four. Hammer curls. Stand it up. Go. Four. You got it. Three. Nice work. Two and one. Hinge it over. We're going five rows. Let's go. Go. Five. You got it. Four. Come on. Three. Stay with it. Two. These are truly some of my favorite basic upper body exercises. They just lift work. I love these moves. Nice. Three, two. Hinge it. You go five. Five rows. Come on. Or six. We're on six. Five, four. You got it. Three, two, and one. Stand up. You're gonna curl for three, two, one. Nice work. Back to the top. Shake it out. We're gonna go. Double up those weights. Reverse grip, row right here. Double them up. Reverse grip for 40 seconds. Flip grip curls for 40 seconds. And one more time. Stacking on. This is it, guys. Your final time through. There might be a fun NML bonus move. I don't know. I don't know. We love a good bonus move. Here we go. Last time through. Shoulders down and back. Palm face me. Hinge and row in three, two. Let's row. Let's row. Row. Reverse grip. Palms are out. Now it's like you're really pulling those leggings on, right? Come on. Squeeze at the top. Squeeze those shoulder blades together. You got it.
Row.
Nice work. Nice work. Pull. Stay with it. Pull. Come on. Last time on the back and biceps right here. Tight core, strong back. Keep rowing. Stay with it. Come on. Come on. Yes, you can. Awesome job.
