Coach Connect with Bobby 🏋️♂️ | Men’s Sport Conditioning & Functional Fitness

A speaker at Prime Performance Training demonstrates and explains how to use several gym implements to improve sport-specific conditioning (tennis, pickleball, softball, golf). Equipment covered includes the sled (cardio/leg/core), teeter board (balance/core), slant board (calf/Achilles/quad work), small stability/medicine balls (e.g., ~65 mm for drumming and wall-squat support), a 16 lb weighted core-stability ball, and kettlebell swings/lawnmower movements. The tone is instructional and promotional for using underutilized gym tools.

Hey there. We're here at Prime Performance Training, and this is a wonderful facility because it has grass turf and it's an artificial surface that allows for a lot of sports performance training. So at your normal gym, a lot of folks fall into the routine of just getting on the circuit, training and just using machines. But today we're going to show you the sled. And the sled is a wonder of cardiovascular power, leg strength, core strength, and you talk about really pulling all the air in the whole gym into your lungs. This device will do it. I'll just demonstrate one move down the carpeting and show you how. For softball, pickleball, tennis, golf, any sport you happen to be into, this is a super way to drive a lot of fitness into your body. Here we go. We're going to go backwards now, and you talk about really putting the heat onto your quadriceps, your hamstrings and your glutes. Here we go. We're going to go backwards now. All right, athletes, we want to talk about these random pieces of equipment that you see on a shelf at your local gym or club, and we'll demonstrate a few of those today. So, you know, as a former tennis coach at a high school, you know, certainly pickleball and tennis and softball and even golf to an extent, really rely on some agility and pliable movement, and you're going to find some stuff in the gym you don't really know how to use it. So we'll take a look at a few items today. So we have a teeter board here, and the teeter board is really going to help you with your balance. And you can do things like squats on this, but your core is having to fire, your brain is working really hard to make sure you balance, and you can lift weights on the teeter board while you're staying somewhat unstable. So that's something. If you see that, that's what that's used for. The slant board is really a unique device because you talk about for Achilles tendon, for your ankle strength, for your arch support, your calf strength. The lower body is so important. You start with certain types of stretches here. For the calf, bend your knees in. For Achilles tendon, come up onto the slant board and do calf raisers. Now, you'll notice I have very thin ankles, but so do thoroughbreds. I just want to point that out. Okay, so here, calf raisers, then you can turn around and you're going to work on your quad centric movements of a squat. So you can come to here, here, here, and here. And that really accentuates the quads. Another unique device. And this is about a fifteen to twenty dollar purchase. Go ahead and get a stability ball or you'll see these for cardio drumming. Sometimes the 65 millimeter ball works the best. But you can place this here against any wall in your house here and you're able to do really good form squats with your core engaged. So a great way to use this ball around your house. We'll move over here. This is a core stability ball. This is weighted. This one happens to be 16 pounds. Any weight held away from your body, you suddenly engage your core. So you can do all kinds of movements side to side. And so for pickleballers, tennis holding the out draws your core in tight. And then finally there are kettlebells. So kettlebells probably were invented way back in the 1800s. I've seen YMCA photos of guys exercising at YMCA is with kettlebells. So here we go. Kettlebell swings. Wonderful way to strengthen your back, your core and give you power for your sports game. You can even do lawnmower type movements with the kettlebell. So there you see there's some simple things that you can do at your gym and here at prime performance training that are a little out of the norm. So I challenge you. You athletes out there get.
