How TNT began

A doctor describes founding her functional medicine practice in 2006 after her own diabetes diagnosis at 25 and 40-pound weight loss. A 2010 anti-aging conference shifted her focus from weight loss alone to treating metabolic root causes, the approach that still guides her work today.

In 2005, a group of girls were kind of getting together about what it would be like to put our dreams together and help people live better lives. And we all came from diverse backgrounds, so that's where the idea of building or having a practice in functional medicine came from. And so as I began kind of thinking about what that would look like, it all started with my journey. I had lost, you know, a ton of weight. I had gone from 186 pounds down into the 140's I had been diagnosed with diabetes at 25, and I knew I had changed my life through nutrition. But how could I have a medical practice that could impact the lives of others and do the same thing? And I wasn't sure how that would look. And so at that point, I had to make a decision for myself. Do I want to continue down this path or do I want to create something that's different? So I had started my practice in 2006, completely focusing on weight loss, completely focusing on taking what I had done to change my life and duplicating that in others. And then in 2010, when 80% of my clients were getting better and about 20% of them weren't, and I had to figure out what that length was, the difference, and I figured out that it was a breakdown basically in metabolism. So in 2010, I attended a conference with anti aging restorative medicine. And it was that day, that weekend in May that changed my life forever and changed this practice. Fast forward to where we are today, which is beautiful. I am not having to convince as many people to consider looking at nutrition as the way in which they should be empowering their health and driving their health to better. You walk into my doors and it's going to be, let's look for the root cause of what's driving that problem. Are you ready to change it? Where we specialize and where I think we optimize this outcome, if you will, it's because we teach them how to do it. The challenge is in behavioral change. And that's really where we focus our time and attention on not just why they need it, but how to do it. People that come to T and T for the first time, we tell them, if you're ready to take a different approach and you're ready to feel better, look better, and function your very best, and you're ready to make those changes, we will walk alongside of you through that entire journey, teach you why you need to do it clearly. And our goal is for everyone who walks in our front door and commits to that process that they will feel better than they felt when they walked in here.
