A short health-and-wellness segment (YouTube) featuring a patient testimonial about successful, sustained weight loss and improved cholesterol after personalized care at Total Nutrition and Therapeutics (TNT). The patient credits clinician Lori Azaray’s testing and lifestyle-based nutrition plan for weight loss (~20–30 lb), reduced cholesterol (220→150), and improved wellbeing; the segment contrasts sustainable lifestyle changes with fad diets and directs viewers to TNT contact info on YourHometownHealth.com.
When it comes to weight loss, there's no lack of fad diets promising quick results. But those diets often are unhealthy. They limit your nutritional intake, and the end results often fail in the long run. We spoke with one patient at Total Nutrition and Therapeutics who explains the many ways the staff was able to help him and his wife get on the path to wellness.
I came to see Lori Azaray to thank my wife. One of her friends had seen her and said how great she was about nutrition and all that and trying to take care of you in a healthy state without having to take all the pills. I met Laurie in April. Meeting her was like, okay. You could see something in her, her passion for what she wanted and the passion that she looked when she looked at you and said, this is what we're going to do for you, he gives you the feeling, that is what I need. My family is very notorious for heart problems. I have always had what the military called hypertension exposures. Military was great for me. I spent over 20 years in the service, and I enjoyed my time. I worked in the medical field. Well, even then, I had high cholesterol. They put me on statin. Great drug. Only problem was my cholesterol kept going up. Come to find out after talking to Lori and she did a bunch of tests on me. I was allergic to wheat and the statins that I was taking for my cholesterol. I have allergies to statins. So the more cholesterol pills I took, the higher my statins went up. I was reversing what the pill was supposed to be doing. Lori started me out. I weighed up 189. After all the blood work, I was 220, I think, was my cholesterol level. And after the first initial series, I was retested. And at that time, my weight had dropped down to 170, right around 170. So I had lost almost 25, 28 pounds there. And I started feeling better. But the biggest shock was my cholesterol went from 220 down to 150. So everything Elorie had put me on was working for me. And I felt better and started looking better. And one of the nicest thing was to go from a size 38 waist to a 34. Do you know how much fun you can have reshopping your whole life over again? I mean, it was amazing. It's hard to say where I would be, but I know where I was going. And I was not gonna meet a goal longer in life if I'd have kept up with what I was doing. The old statement one foot's already in the gr, all you gotta do is wait for the banana peel to push you the rest of the way. That's about what I felt like. What I feel now. Like I'm a mile and a more from that grave and I have a lot more years left in me. And that's what I'm really happy about because I can feel inside. I feel outwards of myself. I feel better, I think I look better and I feel healthier.
The specialists at TNT say that the key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is not short term dietary changes. It's about a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and balancing the number of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses. Staying in control of your weight contributes to good health now and as you age.
