Transcript of a TNT (Total Nutrition and Therapeutics) video discussing the health benefits of fruits and vegetables (citing a BMJ study referenced in Forbes) which found seven servings/day reduced mortality by 42% in a UK cohort of over 65,000. The speaker describes TNT’s approach—functional/integrative medicine emphasizing diet first, personalized nutritional counseling (including for GI conditions), IV nutrition for malabsorption and oncology patients, and practical coaching such as guided grocery-shopping by a health coach. A recent article published in Forbes Online reinforces what we've known for a while. Eating fruits and vegetables could be the key to a longer life. In the article, the author references a new study in BMJ that finds consuming seven servings of fruits and vegetables per day reduces one's death risk by 42%. Researchers followed over 65,000 people in the UK and found that those who ate more fruits and veggies were much less likely to die of any cause. And in particular, they were less likely to die of heart disease, stroke and cancer. And happily, the more fruits and vegetables the people consumed, the more their death risk fell. For the specialists at Total Nutrition and Therapeutics, this news isn't surprising. They explain that while each patient is different, every treatment plan starts with changes to their diet. I think a lot of people just don't understand what the right foods are. And I think our clinic helps them and guides them to the right foods. TNT is Total Nutrition and Therapeutics. We really work with people here truly, and transforming their lives with first food. Food is always pivotally first and then filling in the gaps with supplementation and then doing some testing to help them not only understand first where they are from a healthcare standpoint. I practice functional or integrative medicine and my goal truly is to pull conventional medicine because there's a time and a place for medications and prescriptions, but holist care, pulling them in the middle and integrating that for a person. And so we call ourselves functional or integrative practitioners. That's number one. And I get a lot of referrals from gastrointestinal doctors to help people begin to understand what diets they particularly need to follow for disease states such as celiac, Crohn's disease, those type of things. And so specialty nutritional counseling is right up our alley. Additionally, IV therapy and IV nutrition. IV nutrition is very, very helpful for people with malabsorpt. A lot of oncology patients, patients who have recently had chemotherapy and they have nutritional depletions oftentimes. By giving IV therapy, we can boost their energy levels and their overall well being and just how they feel, especially during the off cycles of that. So we offer multiple different services that go well beyond just counseling. Janie, the health coach, it's amazing what she can do with the patients. She takes them on a grocery shopping experience. And the patients when they come in there, they're like, you're gonna teach me how to shop. And it's just more than just shopping, it's going through the experience, going through the store, reading labels, giving the patient ideas on what they could be eating or using when they cook. So, I mean, there's times she's over in the store for an hour and the patients will come back and they're like, oh my gosh, I learned so much.
