What Can You Accomplish In A Year?
Louis Massaro (host of the Moving Mastery Podcast) urges moving-company owners to plan transformative, year-long objectives rather than staying stuck in daily firefighting. He emphasizes three core points: (1) decide one or two big things to accomplish this year and set quarterly objectives, (2) identify what you need to learn to remove roadblocks, and (3) build a concrete skill-development plan (curriculum) to gain those skills. He also promotes the three-day Moving Sales Academy Live (March 15–17, 2019 in Phoenix) as a venue to learn sales, operations/CEO skills, and marketing.

It's Louis Massaro. And welcome to another episode of the Moving Mastery Podcast.
Hey. Hey. We're live.
Give it a minute here.
See who's who's joining us today. Got some good stuff.
Got three big points I want to share with you guys. So, by the way, I'm on live on Instagram. I'm live on Facebook right now. What's up? What was that, Mikey? Mickey. Mikey. What's up, Mikey? Good to see you. We got some good stuff today I want to share with you guys. And, you know, it's still that time. It's still the beginning of the year. It's still the time to be thinking about what's going to happen throughout this year. Right. How you're going to make the most of it. You know, I speak to a lot, a lot of moving companies on a daily basis. And, you know, a lot of people have the same goals and the same aspirations and, you know, different things that they want to achieve in their business. And, you know, I'm watching how some are able to achieve that. And, you know, some might actually, you know, have a little bit of trouble getting there. So, you know, I.
Actually just recently got off about an hour ago with, you know, one of my mastermind groups. Clients of mine that I work with for a course of a year. You know, they come out to my office four times a year. We work together. But, you know, most of them actually met for the first time at one of our moving Sales Academy seminars. So they all know each other, they all work together, so I work with them. But they kind of have that, you know, that camaraderie and that ability to have someone that's going through the same stuff that they go through and trying to achieve that next level in their business. And, you know, one of the things that I really took away from this call, like I said, I just got off the call, then had some lunch, then jumped on with you guys, which is, you know, what could actually be accomplished over the course of a year. Right. You know, a lot of times we think about what we want to do, and we're thinking real short term. We're thinking just like, immediate gratification. Where could we get to in our business immediately? Right. And so I've watched this group, the things that they've been able to accomplish over the course of the year. You know, if you join me on our. Was it Wednesday? I was live. If you missed that, you could jump over to my Facebook. It's still up. I left it up there for you to see. But we talked about the importance of setting quarterly objectives, right? We talked about how important it is to have things that are really moving your life and your business forward. What's up, guys? I see all you guys here, zip, moving, nyp. What's going on, guys?
And you know, we talked about doing quarterly objectives, right? Making sure you have something every single quarter that you're working on to take your company that next level. So, you know, the idea of thinking that you could just go in every day and work hard, you know, that doesn't really yield the results, right? So as I was saying, you know, I'm looking at this group and we're discussing the things that they have accomplished. And when I look at over the course of the year, the fact that these things that we were discussing a year ago that were just a thought, that were just an idea, that they took the time and implemented, like, really implemented big, major initiatives, right? Not just like, you know, I'm gonna try this little thing, but, you know, totally overhauled the whole department or implemented a certain type of referral program in their business to bring in more leads, to bring in more, more moves. And by them being able to, you know, have that long term vision. And a year is not even long term vision, right? I mean, long term vision is like, what are you gonna accomplish in 20 years? But when you look at, you know, what can we accomplish over the course of a year? And I've watched this group do, I mean, I don't even know what the word is, like, transformational changes to their business, where, you know, they just were focused on, like, this is what I'm gonna accomplish, this is what I'm gonna get done. So whether that's, hey, we're gonna move into a warehouse and we're gonna fill that warehouse. And to watch them do it in a year, or we're gonna establish this many realtors in our referral network, and to see them do it in a year, to see them raise their prices and start taking average moves up to $2,200, an average move, you know, from being afraid to raise their rates, it's just. It's amazing. So, you know, for me, I wanted to just kind of talk to you about three points here that I think are really important as we're still in this first part of this first month of the first quarter of 2019. And you've got to think about this stuff again, because if you just go to work and you just work, work, work, you know, you're essentially, your business is you having a job Right. It's not really you owning a business and making that business work for you and letting make money for you. Right? So, you know the first question I want you to really think about, right. It might seem like a very, very common basic question, but I want you to really think about this. And I realize I spelled something wrong here as I showed this to you. So this is raw right here. There's no filtering. So this does say, what can you accomplish in a year? Forgot the l there. But what can you accomplish in a year? Like, for real, like, if you think about it now, not like, hey, I just want to increase sales. We all want that. But increase sales by how much? Do you want to just increase sales or do you want to increase your rpm, your revenue per move? Right? Because it's not, you know, the answer is not always more moves, because then you need more trucks, then you need more people. Right? That's a good thing if those moves are profitable. But what if you can, you know, raise the, you know, the average, you know, the revenue per move, Right? So is that one of your goals? Maybe you have, you know, your sales are totally on point, right? You're crushing it. You're going through. Maybe you're in moving sales academy. You're following all the processes and your sales are on point. But now you need some help with service. You need some, you know, you need to get your movers trained, right? You need to actually spend the time to put them through a mover training process. For those of you that's joining us, I was talking about, you know, one of my mastermind groups that I just got off a call with and to see what they've accomplished over the course of the year is amazing. And I say that, you know, really, to shed light on the fact that it's January right now and you have this full year ahead of you, right? You got this full year ahead of you and, like, what is it you're going to accomplish? And sometimes we just, you know, we just want to make things a little bit better. And we want to make things a little bit better. But now's the time to really say, all right, what big things will really transform my business? Do I need a complete overhaul? Do I need new movers? Right. Let's see. What is that the hardest part? That's the hardest part is finding good help and experienced movers. Absolutely. So if that's something you're struggling with, thanks for sharing that Class A. If that's something you're struggling with, make that a priority. Think about how Much easier your business will run, your life will be if you say, okay, you know what, enough of this. I'm not going to be a victim and say, you know what? It's so hard to find good help. There's no good movers out there. Instead, let me put a process together, right? Let me learn how to actually create this hiring machine to where I could keep them coming in this training system to where I could hire them, get them on the trucks, and I don't have to slow down my growth because I don't have the movers to be able to do that. Right? You know, maybe you want to put a referral program in place, whatever it is, like, what can you accomplish over the course of this year? Is the first thing you really need to think about. And I'm bringing this to you here on a Friday because, you know, sometimes during a week, you don't have the time to think through some of the bigger picture things. But here's what I could tell you, is that if you constantly stay in the weeds and you're constantly just focused in on, like, you know, the fires that I have to put out today and the stuff I have to deal with today, you're not gonna get past that. And if you get past that, it'll only be to a certain level, and then you're gonna start hitting that roadblock again, right? So, you know, once you've established what you can accomplish in a year, you have to really then ask yourself, okay, what do I need to learn, right? What do I need to learn in order to. To accomplish the things that I want to get accomplished this year? You know, so for me, I got in the business. When I started in the moving business, I didn't know anything about the moving business. Nothing. You know, when I first started, I had to have my movers show me how to fold pads, how to load a truck, right? I didn't know anything. And so my mission became to learn. And once I saw, okay, I learned something and I implement it, I'm like, wow, that really works. And see the results for me, I became, you know, a lifelong learner. And so again, I was talking about this group that I just got off the phone with, and to see the things that they initiated, a lot of the stuff that I taught them, either in the program or at one of our seminars, and to see them put in the work and put in the focus and to see the payoff is incredible. But we have to realize that if we want to advance our lives in any area, right, we're talking about business right now. We're talking about mainly your moving business. But if we want to advance our lives.
There'S things that you're gonna have to learn to do that. So you have to first identify. All right, where am I hitting a roadblock? Because I just don't know how to do something. And that should not be your excuse. If you're in business, if you're a business owner or you're an entrepreneur and you want to grow and expand, you should never let your lack of knowing how to do something stop you from doing that. Right. If that makes sense. Leave me a comment down below. Let me see what you guys are thinking, if this makes sense to you. Because, you know, if there's certain things that you need to learn, it's. They're out there. The information is out there. You need to just seek it out and find it. I mean, that's. That's really why I'm doing what I'm doing with Moving Mastery. By the way, we're at the Moving Mastery headquarters right now. Katz. What's up? Katz from London. What's going on.
You know, is to help you develop the stuff, you need to take your moving company.
You know, I say it a lot, but, like, to another level, right? And that doesn't always mean you gotta have more trucks and you've gotta have more moves. It might just mean you have the same amount of moves, the same amount of trucks, but you're making more money, meaning you're taking home more money and working less. Right? Your idea of success and someone else's idea of success is totally different. So once you establish, first of all, what can you accomplish year? What big thing can you accomplish this year? And then you say, okay, well, in order for me to get there, what do I need to learn? What do I need to figure out? Right? Once you know that, then it's a matter of like, all right, once you know what you need to learn, what is your skill development plan? It's one thing to say, I need to learn this. And that's where a lot of people will stop. They'll be like, well, I need to learn how to do my books. I need to learn how to read my profit and loss statement. I need to learn how to set up a call center for my office. I need to learn how to train my movers. And then it kind of stops. And it stops there because they don't take that next step and go, okay, I know that if I want to accomplish these things, right, that I need to learn These things and then develop that skill development plan, right? Like you have to create essentially a curriculum for yourself of saying, okay, you know, if I need to learn the books, how do I learn how to manage and handle my profit and loss statement and my cash flow and everything else I need to know how to do in order to really where that CEO had of the business, right? And so my question is like, what's your skill development plan? And I can tell you that if you haven't yet been to Moving Sales Academy Live, you need to come. I mean, I really, you know, it's one of those things that.
When I did the first one, it was like, okay, I think this is going to be really helpful for people. I think this is going to be really valuable. But to see the people that have gotten such results and they come back year after year and bring their teams and make it part of something they do. Why? Because they know what they want to get accomplished, right? And instead of saying, yeah, yeah, I have these big dreams and just working harder. Because that's not the answer. The answer is not to work harder. The answer is to say, okay, what do I want to accomplish? Simple. What do I need to learn in order to do that? And what specific skills do I need to learn to get there? Not do I need to learn, but what's my plan? How am I going to plan this out? So right now we're in the first quarter of the year, okay, which ends at the end of March. What's your first quarter plan? And here's what I could tell you, that.
If you aren't planning on coming to Moving Sales Academy Live, you need to have a really good reason why you're not coming. Alright? Because if you need to learn how to set up a sales machine for your moving company, we're gonna spend a full day going into that full day. I mean, it's not, this isn't like, you know, right now I'm kind of giving you some vague stuff like, hey, check this out, these are some good ideas. But I can tell you for the people that come and show up, that come spend three days with me, I'm not wasting anybody's time, I'm not wasting anybody's money. We're diving right into it. We're going right into it. Full day, nine in the morning till seven at night. We are diving into how to build a sales machine. That's day one. Step by step, how to do it. You've got the workbooks that we give you and I'll show them to you. Another time we got the workbooks that we give you that you go through, right? Day two is all about mastering your business. Everything from your operations to, you know, being the CEO of your company, right? Essentially wearing that CEO hat. Like how do you go in and start managing your profit and loss statements? How do you know what your cash flow is or your marketing roi and the things and the big decisions that you need to make and how you actually scale your business and what that process looks like. And then day three, it's all marketing, right? What leads, what marketing sources, how do you track it, what you need to be doing to manage it on a daily basis. And you know, this isn't a sales pitch. This is me honestly wanting to just share with you three big ideas which is, you know, what are you gonna accomplish this year? Alright, really think that through this weekend. Spend some time thinking about it.
And then basically, what is it you need to learn to get there? Because if anything's getting in your way and it's skill development, never let that be the reason. There's too much information out there. You don't have to learn it from me. But I know I have this coming up. I know the value that it's given so many people. So let me know, I mean, what do you guys. Let me know if there's anybody that wants to put it in the chat here, what it is that you need, what skills you need to develop for 2019 to get your moving company to that next level, right? What is it? You know, it's, you know, whether it's delegation, right? How do you delegate and start to hire people and get them to replace you in certain positions, right? So you could step away from your business. Because remember, it's not all about go in every day and work, work, work. Go in every day, hustle, hustle, hustle. Go in every day, put out fires. You' be able to step away from the business. You've got to be able to delegate. I mean, I've got my team back here working. You know, this is. You've got to be able to step away and you've got to be able to scale. We all start somewhere. We all start. I started by myself in the truck rental yard, working out, doing everything, right? Dispatching the crews, doing the sales. Once I got an office on the forklift, stacking vaults, doing everything. But you don't want to stay there, right? So listen, again, this isn't a pitch for moving Sales Academy Live. You need to be there, you need to come. Go to my website, LewisMassaro.com all the information is there. Just watch the testimonial videos of the people that have been there. I don't want to try to sell you on how great it is, but I know what it's done for so many people and the message I really wanted to share with you today is, you know, what are you going to accomplish this year? What do you need to learn to get there? And then what's your actual plan to do that? Right? It's one thing to know what to do and it's another thing to do what you know. So the question is what do you need to figure out? You know, how to do something and then what's the plan to get there? Alright, I see you guys got some questions. What's up available movers? Mike, what's up? Zane Joseph. Good to see you guys. Listen, I see you got some questions about the event. Just go to my site, louismassaro.com youm'll see it on there. Events. Click there. All the information's there. I don't want to, you know, get into it too much here. You'll see the dates, you'll see where it is. Supportuismassaro.com we'll get you whatever information you need. But again, what do you need to learn? What are you going to accomplish this year and what's your plan to get there? All right, like I said, I'm going to be going live more often. So I'm here. If you guys have questions, let me know. I'll send them to me, send me a DM and I'll address it in one of these lives. All right? So I hope you guys have a great, great weekend. You know that my motto is profit and business thrive in life. So I hope that you're making a lot of money and that you're gonna go enjoy yourself this weekend, all right? Spend time with those you love, do the things you enjoy. And if you're not in that place right now and you feel like it's gotta constantly be a grind and that you don't have the ability to step back and you don't have the ability to go do the things that you know you want to do, to enjoy your life with the money that you want to have in your pocket, get serious about your business. That's all I could say. And I don't mean get serious about being an employee of your business. I mean get serious about saying, you know, it's time for me to step into that CEO role and handle the things that need to be handled. We started this with me talking about my mastermind group that I just got off a call with, and to see the things that they've accomplished in a year, it's incredible. And you could be doing that, too. You just have to be thinking about what can you accomplish in a year. All right. So till I see you guys next time, go out there every day. Profit in your business, thrive in your life. Have a great weekend. Send me a dm. I'll talk to you guys soon. I hope to meet a lot of you at Moving Sales Academy Live. I'll see you there March 15th through 17th this year. Phoenix, I'll see you later.
