While participating in the Chicagoland QuickBooks ProAdvisor Group, she felt hesitant to ask basic questions in front of potential referral sources. Seeking a safer space, she contacted fellow bookkeeper Kay Morgan and proposed regular meet‑ups where bookkeepers could ask “dopey” questions without fear. Kay agreed, and the speaker then invited a broader group of bookkeepers—many she didn’t know personally—to join a monthly gathering focused on connection and collaboration. The invitation was met with immediate enthusiasm, and the community launched successfully.

And so I created a community called Bookkeeping Buds in 2009. And it started off, I was part of a group called the Chicagoland QuickBooks ProAdvisor Group. And so since I was so new, I had so much to still learn, I didn't want to ask dumb questions in front of people that I could potentially get referrals from. So I was looking for a different option. And so thankfully there was another bookkeeper there. Her name's Kay Morgan. I reached out to her and said, you know, would you be interested in meeting up regularly just for bookkeepers so that we could ask those dopey questions and not be afraid of, of not asking the right thing or not knowing things. And she said, yeah, that sounds like a great idea. And so in the back of my mind, I, I kind of still had this, I want to grow this community, and then invited a bunch of bookkeepers that I didn't even really know and just kind of told the idea of, you know, let's meet together once a month and just connect and collaborate, and would you be interested? And they all signed up immediately.
