In the second installment of her 30‑day, 30‑question career challenge, Margaret Spence asks viewers to confront the question “What defines your individuality?” She explains that leadership roles are awarded not to generic copies of existing leaders but to people who bring a unique, authentic presence to their organization. Spence warns against the illusion that one can simply imitate another’s career path, emphasizing that each person has a distinct “secret sauce” – a combination of skills, experiences, and personal traits that no one else can replicate. By identifying and articulating this unique value, individuals can align their purpose with career advancement, present themselves as whole, authentic leaders, and ultimately move their careers forward. The video ends with a call to action to reflect on one’s individuality and a teaser for Day 3 of the challenge.

So we're on day 2 of our challenge and If you joined me for the first video, you know that what I'm going to do is ask you bold, simple questions, put it out there. I'm writing an article around the same subject, and then I'm asking you to look at your career differently. So, as we discussed in the prior video, it's September, September 2018. You've had an entire year, 9 months to work on your career. Maybe you've put some things aside. So I'm challenging you now to pick up the baton and run with your career a little bit differently. So here is our, our question for day 2. Our question is, what defines your individuality? Who are you as an individual? What makes you different in your organization? Because when organizations are looking for leaders, They're looking for individuality. So before we can even address where you're taking your career and where you want to go with your career, we have to talk about who you are as an individual. What is it that makes you unique? Because here's the deal. Everybody could be a copy of someone else. You could say, you know, because Jane became a leader, because Jane got promoted, because Jane is now the boss, I should be able to do that without any effort. I should be able to pivot my career from here to there, just like she did. The reality is that's not the truth. You cannot be Jane and you can't be John. You can only be you. I'm Margaret Spence. I can only be Margaret Spence. I can't be anyone else. So the deal is this. If you want to be In leadership, if you want to have the career that you want, it's important that you figure out who you are as an individual because your organization is not buying the group. They're asking for you. The organization isn't looking for everyone to lead. They're looking for you to lead. So what's your secret sauce? What do you bring to the table that nobody else can bring to the table. When you figure out who you are as an individual, when you figure out what you bring to the table that's unique, then you have found your purpose and your reason for moving forward. People want to know you. They don't want a copy of you, and they don't want a copy of someone else. In order to be successful, you've got to bring a whole person, a whole you to the table. So your organization can see that you are the whole leader, the whole individual, the individual with really great potential to lead, to take the mantle and run with it. So if you're joining me for the first time, I'm Margaret Spence. And I am leading this 30 Powerful Questions in 30 Day Challenge. I'm asking you to step up and define who you are as an individual and pivot your career to the next level. So join me tomorrow for Day 3 of the 30/30 Challenge. Take care.
