Margaret Spence asks what your core competency is and when you'll display it. She defines it as your secret sauce, the one skill that makes you the best, and says women often hold back from showcasing it. Identifying it isn't enough; you have to accept it, stop second-guessing yourself, and make it publicly visible through thought leadership and confidence.

Day 19 of the 30/30 Career Transformation Challenge. 30 bold questions over the month of September to help you reset and reinvigorate your career. Hi, my name is Margaret Spence, and I'm the founder of the Employee to CEO Project and the 10X Leadership Academy for Women. Today I'm asking you a double bold question. What is your core competency and when will you be ready to display it? Here's the deal. Core competency is your secret sauce. It's what makes you the best of the best. It's the thing that you're known for. It's what people say, you know what, you are really good at this. I want you to take this and build on it. So the question for you, what is your core competency? And when you figure out that core competency, when will you be ready to put it on display? Because what I know for sure is as women, we can either be competent in a lot of stuff or we can be competent and, and expert, a thought leader around one specific thing while we have expertise in everything else. But if we hone in on our core competency, it allows us to build a dynamic career. But here's a caution, a caution about core competency. You can build a core competent competency So here's an example. My core competency is in employee compliance. I've built a practice around HR compliance. Fantastic. That's my core competency. I've taken that and I've built out multiple parts of it, but I'm also willing to put my core competency on display. I'm willing to show people my level of competency. I'm ready to show that I am a thought leader in a specific area. When are you going to be ready to show that you are a thought leader in your organization? When are you going to feel that you've checked enough boxes on your list to say, I am the thought leader around this particular subject area, and I want people to know that this is my level of competency. This is how I rise to the top. If you don't understand your core competency, what you are the best at, what you excel at, how do you expect other people to know it? But here is my second part of the caution. The second part of what I want you to focus on, you will never be ready to display your core competency if you don't accept that competency. You will always second guess if you're good enough. You will always second guess if you're ready and guess what? You'll never be ready. You just have to go forward and put out your level of competency, show that you're leading the way. In a particular area. Show people that you are ready to lead. Show them that you are a thought leader around a competency and show them by how you display and how you show up that you are ready to step into your greatness. So today's bold question, what is your core competency? And when you will you be ready to put it on full display so that everybody knows your competency level. That's one of those earth-shattering things that I want you to think about. Thank you for joining me for the 30/30 Challenge. It has been an amazing 19 days, and I'm so glad that you're along for the journey. Thank you.
