In this Day 23 video of the 30‑day Career Transformation Challenge, Margaret Spence – founder of the Employee to CEO Project and the 10X Leadership Academy for Women – introduces the bold question “Where are you going?” as a pivotal self‑reflection tool for career planning. She explains that asking this simple question helps identify whether one’s current path aligns with their intended destination, reveals stalls or detours, and forces deeper drilling into the specifics of the desired role, the subsequent steps it leads to, and the competencies required. Spence guides viewers through a practical exercise: write down the intended position (e.g., HR manager, division director), then ask what that position leads to, what outcomes are expected, and what skills or knowledge gaps must be filled. She emphasizes that the answer informs the tools, tasks, and learning needed, and that the plan should be revisited and adjusted if outcomes differ from expectations. The video serves as both a motivational checkpoint near the end of the challenge and a concrete framework for ongoing career navigation.

Day 23 of the 30/30 Career Transformation Challenge. Hi, my name is Margaret Spence, and I'm the founder of the Employee to CEO Project and the 10X Leadership Academy for Women. We are on day 23. 30 bold questions was my intention at the beginning of this month to ask you 30 bold questions to help you reset your career and rethink your vision and where you want to go. Today's bold question: Where are you going? That seems so minorly simplistic. Where are you going? But that is probably the most powerful question you can ask yourself on any given day in your career. Where am I going? So today, let's ask the question, where are you going? One of the things that I've asked several times throughout this video series is that you sit down and you ask yourself these questions. Where am I going is a pivotal question because if where you're going is nowhere, that's a problem. If where you're going is the path that you already envisioned, Perfect. You're headed in the right direction. If where you're going has taken a stall or a detour, you know what I mean. You started out wanting something, then things happened. You didn't get it. You lost focus. You haven't really redefined where you want to go. Now's the time to ask yourself the question, where am I going? Where is this role taking me? Where is this path taking me? Is this the path I wanna go down? Is this the journey I wanna embrace? At the end of this journey, will I be satisfied with the journey that I've taken? Those are some of the simplistic questions that you ask that follow, where am I going? It's not just asking the top-level question, it's diving deeper and diving deeper and diving deeper until you have a clear understanding of where you're going. So here's an exercise I'd like you to do. If you pull out a sheet of paper or you download the workbook for the 30-day challenge, ask yourself, where am I going? Then answer the question. Then ask yourself, where is this answer taking me? So here's an example. Where I'm going is into an HR manager position, let's say, or I'm going to be a division director, or I'm going to be a supervisor. Okay, so now I know where I'm going. Once I've gotten there, where is that goal taking me? Where is that path from there? Where is it taking me? Where am I going? You have to continually drill down on the where you're going till you're very clear about what you are getting from the path. And when you're clear about what you're getting from the path, any deficiencies that you need to improve on, you add that to where am I going. So where am I going is not just a journey. Where am I going is the tools and task that you need to add to your journey. Because if where you're going requires a certain level of business acumen or it requires a finance acumen, or it requires you to understand operations, then where you're going has other tools that you need to develop and buckle on to the journey that you're taking. So the question for today is, where are you going? What's the definition of this journey? What is your intention? What do you expect to be the outcome? And what happens if the outcome you're intending doesn't occur? How do you readjust the where am I going? That's today's bold question. I hope you're enjoying the 30/30 Challenge. We are almost at the end, and I could tell you this has been so empowering for me, and I trust that it's been empowering for you as well. Thank you for joining me.
