In this solo coaching video, Margaret Spence, founder of the Employee to CEO Project and the 10X Leadership Academy for Women, presents Day 15 of her 30‑day "30/30 Career Transformation Challenge." She introduces the bold question for the day – “Where do you want to go with your career?” – and urges viewers to shift the focus from “Where am I going?” to “Where am I going with my career?” She uses a flashlight‑in‑a‑dark‑tunnel metaphor to illustrate how professionals often work competently in a role without illuminating the broader direction of their career. Spence stresses that every role should be viewed as preparation for greater responsibility and future opportunities, and that regular self‑assessment (ideally each quarter) is essential to maintain clarity and purpose. The video concludes with a call to share the content, continue the challenge, and reflect on what one’s current job is preparing them for.

Day 15 of the 30/30 Career Transformation Challenge. 30 bold questions over the 30 days of September to help you rethink your career, to help you find clarity and purpose and a renewed pep in your step to manage your career differently. Hi, my name is Margaret Spence and I'm the founder of the Employee to CEO Project. And the 10X Leadership Academy for Women. Thank you for joining me on this 30/30 Challenge. It's been an amazing 15 days. Today's bold question is, where do you want to go with your career? It seems like a simplistic question. Where do you want to go with your career? This is what I know. When you're working in your career, when you're in the midst of work and you're, you've gotten the job that you want and you're sitting there now trying to become the expert in the role that you've taken on, we often forget to ask ourselves, where are we going with our career? And the first time we ask that question is generally either when we've been terminated from a position, or there's been some shakeup or upheaval. We haven't gotten a good performance review. We're not happy with something that occurred at work, and suddenly that question comes to the forefront. Where am I going in this job? is generally the question that's asked. I want you to twist that question around a little bit. I want you to start asking yourself, where am I going with my career? That question needs to be on your bank of questions every quarter. Where am I going with my career? Because if you don't know where you're going, think of it this way. Let me back this up a tiny bit. Imagine that you have a flashlight and you're going down a dark tunnel. You have the flashlight, you're going down that dark tunnel. And you're shining the light as you're going, you have a possibility to get to the end of the tunnel because you've got the light. Think of your career as that tunnel. You're in the tunnel of your career. Oftentimes we stay in the tunnel. We don't turn on the light to figure out what else is around us. We get in the tunnel, we stay in that tunnel, we become competent and good at what we're doing. We are accomplished around the one thing, but we have never lifted our head up to look around and say, where is this career taking me? Where is the work that I'm doing taking me? What is the work I'm doing preparing me for? That's an even bigger question. What is the job you have right now preparing you for. It's not about where you're going, it's the preparation for where you're going. So if you're in the career tunnel and you're going through this dark tunnel, you have a light. Where's the light taking you? Where's your career taking you? If you cannot answer that question, why are you in the role you're in? Every role that you take on should be preparing you for something. It's preparing you for greater responsibility. It's preparing you to advance. It's preparing you to become the expert in that particular area. But likewise, what are you preparing yourself for? What are you preparing yourself for? So where is your career going? Where is your career taking you? What are you preparing yourself for? It's tantamount to asking, what do you want? But it's really specific about what is your career preparing you for? So that was today's bold question. What's your career preparing you for? Where are you going? And if you don't know, why don't you know? Thank you for joining me for the 30/30 Challenge, Day 15. Oh my God, I keep saying this at the end of every video. Oh my God, we're on Day 15. Thank you for joining me. If you enjoyed the video, share it with your friends, share it here on social media, and join me again tomorrow for the 30/30 Challenge. Thank you.
