Mark Evans tells his son about taking an insulation job at 17 for $6 an hour, despite being allergic to fiberglass and working in 120-degree heat. He frames it as proof of his work ethic.
$6 an hour
17 years old
June
About 120 degrees
Fiberglass insulation
I was talking with my son yesterday. I shared with him a story about me. I made $6 an hour on this when I was 17 years old. My uncle called me up and said, hey, do you want to put insulation in this house or church for me? And I said, yes. I didn't ask any other questions. Yes. Because I always wanted to make money. I always wanted to work. I always wanted to accomplish things. Keep in mind, I'm allergic to insulation. The fiberglass, it's hot as hell. It was June in the ceiling, right? So it's like 120 degrees. But I was so happy because I knew 99.9% of people would not fucking do that. That's what kept me going.
