Mark Evans DM spent eight years arguing over $0.47 post-it notes and $7.40 snacks while missing projects worth $87,000. His shift came when he started paying to enter higher-value rooms, spending at least $1,000 to access networks that mattered.
Eight years.
Post-it notes for $0.47 and $0.32 per pack; a $7.40 snack (beef jerky/Monster Energy).
112 degrees.
$87,000 (approximately).
At least $1,000.
Your hundred dollar problems are keeping you from your multi million dollar dreams. You know it, I know it. I struggled with this for eight years. I watched every dollar, every penny. I'd fight my assistant instead of buying post it notes for 47 cents a pack, go down to the store and buy for 32 cents a pack. I'd fight her on it. When I was doing lots of real estate, talking to contractors, talking to Home Depot, talking to Lowe's. Give me the phone to the rep. Yo man, what do they have on that receipt? What's on that? Beef jerky Monster Energy. I ain't paying for that. It's $7.40. It ruined my day. Pissed me off. I wanted to fire him. I wanted to kill him. I wanted to hurt them. They're stealing from me. I thought, well, no, maybe they're just hungry and thirsty and they're working out in 112 degree weather on a project that's going to make us $87,000. I had my head so up, far up my. I couldn't even think about that. If $8 is changing the project, I don't have a real business. I don't have a real job. I need to work better on my front end numbers. None of this changed until I started getting in rooms where I paid to be in them. I'm talking real pain. If you're not paying at least a thousand dollars to be in a room, why are you even going.
