Micromanagers check in constantly because they can't see progress. Email your boss three things you'll finish each morning, a midday status update, and a final list at end of day marking what's done. Visible work stops the hovering.

A lot of micromanaging gets worse because the boss can't see enough progress. If your boss checks on you every hour, stop waiting for that next check-in. Get there first. In the morning, send something like, these are the 3 big accomplishments I'm planning to achieve today. Don't send 20 tasks. Tell them what you're going to finish. If they message at noon with, where are we? Say something like, one is done, the other 2 are on track, and I'll send you the completed list by 5. At the end of the day, resend that same list and put accomplished beside everything you finished. When a boss can't see enough progress, checking on you constantly really becomes their way of finding out whether anything is getting done. So give them better visibility before they ask for it. If they can clearly see your results, your hours may suddenly become a lot less interesting to them.
