Mark Reynolds, a former Army aide and high-performance coach, presents the G.R.E.A.T. framework to counter Gallup's finding that American personal satisfaction is at an all-time low. It is time for 81 4, your health. Joining us now is Mark Reynolds, who is an army veteran, a high performance coach, and the author of his new book, how to Make Every Day Great. Mark, thank you so much for joining us. Welcome in.
Hey, thank you for having me. So great to be here. Of course. Coming in from Texas. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Huh? Yeah.
We thank you so much for flying out here. Okay, so you wanted to share with us a kind of shocking new study about people and just in their everyday lives.
Yeah, absolutely. So Gallup released a poll and they said that personal satisfaction for Americans is at an all time low. And so I wanted to change that. It's the reason why I wrote the book how to Make Every Day Great. And it all started back when I was in the Army. I was the aide de camp to the commanding general of the Western Regional Medical Command, which meant I was his assistant. And we were having a particularly bad day. It was more challenging than that. And he just looked at me and he said, lieutenant, it's not the day we wanted, but it's the day we got. And I never forgot that about. It's not going to be our circumstances. We're never going to have full control over what life has to us. Especially when you're in the military, you're a first responder or just living at home. Right. Life happens, but how we respond to it is completely up to us. And so we said, hey, these are the days we got. How can we make them great? So I created the Great Day framework, G R E A T. And that's why I wanted us to maybe talk about today and share with your audience. Of course.
Because great is literally an acronym.
It sure is. Yeah. So you want to go through it. Absolutely. G goals. Now, when I think when people think about great days, they imagine it's more like being on the Oprah show. And they're like, you get a great day and you get a great day and I get a great day. Everyone look under your seats. It's going to be a great day. But that's not what Oprah said. Oprah said is if you want great results, you got to have a great goal. And that's what I say. If you want to have a great day, you have to have a great goal for the day. Mm R rest. I asked Joel Osteen, hey, Joel, how come you have so many great days? And he said, when I want to have a great day, it starts with a great night's sleep. Yeah, that makes sense. A great day starts the night Before, So everyone go to bed. Okay.
All right, well, this is the best I can do.
But I'll tell you, if you just did these first two things, set goals for the day, and went to bed, you would be amazed at how much better your days would be.
And I love because R leads to E. Right?
E. Absolutely. Energy. Taylor Swift, when she was getting ready for her last tour, she ran on the treadmill every single day to make sure she would have energy for the set. She ran fast for the fast songs and slow or walked for the slow songs. Right. So she paced her day and then she took dance lessons for months because she said she wanted to be able to feel it in her bones. Energy is the secret to Taylor Swift's success. And so if we want to have great days, we. We got to have enough energy for the day.
Of course you do.
Finally, tea time. There was a period in my life where I was just working all the time and my wife and I, we were kind of going through a rough patch and she just said, hey, why don't you just go do what you need to do and then come back when you have time? And I heard what my wife was saying. And so if you want to have a great day, you got to make time for the things that are most important. And that includes the most important person in your life. You. Who?
Me?
You. Me.
And of course, taking action on all these things as well.
You can't forget the action.
Yes.
Everyone wants to skip over it, but if you want to have a great day, you have to take action. Arnold Schwarzenegger said nobody can do your push ups for you. And that makes sense. Only you can have a great day.
I love it, man. I love it. Such great advice. And I love how all of these things go hand in hand. Right. You can't really have one without the other.
Absolutely not.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So you go all across the country, Mark, you speak to people and you have your book as well. What do you talk about in your book? What are the goals?
The goals for the book? Yeah. Basically what I lay out is what I want. Exactly how you can go through setting individual aspirations for yourself, based, regardless of your circumstances, on how to set yourself up for a great day using the great day form format.
Excellent. So people are interested. Where can they go pick it up?
Yeah, you can find it. You'll find it@Amazon.com and if you're interested in me and more about my coaching, you can find that at MarkReynolds TV.
Super important stuff, folks. Go and check him out and just such great ways to really just make a plan and set those things up to have a great day every single day.
Let's go. Have a great day.
Have a great day.
Mark.
Thank you so, so much. Really appreciate it, my man.
You're most welcome.
