How Scanners Can Make You More Money as a Notary Public

Mark Wills shows notaries how a scanner at the signing table instead of a home desk can add thousands in annual income. Scanning on-site means faster processing, fewer missed FedEx deadlines, and access to estate-planning work that signing services actively search for. A used desktop scanner in your car with a $25 power inverter or a portable standalone scanner gets the job done.

Oh, hi there. If you're a notary public loan signing agent looking to get more loan signing jobs, this one sentence said right here could make you thousands of dollars. No, this is not another certification, not another marketing secret, just one sentence said right here at this door can change everything. Hi again, I'm Mark, America's largest notary public loan signing agent coach, and in this video I'm going to show you a simple way to make more money as a notary public loan signing agent and to increase your notary public loan signing agent income. My guess is, hold on, you already have a scanner, as almost every notary public loan signing agent in America already does. If you're a brand new notary public loan signing agent trying to figure out what supplies you need as a notary public loan signing agent or notary, know that this is no longer a nice-to-have. Having a scanner is non-negotiable in this business, and I'll show you exactly why. But owning a scanner was never the problem for notaries. The problem for notaries is where they kept the scanner. It's most likely sitting on your home office desk, and And that could be costing you thousands of dollars a year, and you have no idea it's happening because you never ever technically did anything wrong. Let me give you an example that happens to too many notaries across this country. Let's say you finish the signing at 4:30. You drive 35 minutes home, scan your docs, upload them back to the signing service, and then you wait because the signing service has to review the documents before you can actually ship them. But now it's 5:50. Your FedEx drop closed at 5:00. Your loan docs don't go out tomorrow, they go out the next day. You cost the signing service's client The title company, a full day of waiting for the docs. You did nothing wrong, you didn't miss any signatures, but that move cost the signing service and the title company. Meanwhile, there's other notaries who literally scan directly from the signer's living room, upload everything at the table, got the green light right in the driveway, and made FedEx with an hour to spare. Same job, same package, but one of them is getting a call tomorrow for repeat business, and the other never gets called again and never was told why. So if you want to know how to get more loan signings, how to make more money as a notary public loan signing agent, and how to grow your notary public loan signing agent income, sometimes it comes down to little things like this, which is scanning from the signing location that makes your job easier and makes you more reliable to work with. And it's bigger than loan signings. Estate planning right now for notaries is exploding for business opportunity, and the signing services that get estate planning clients only work with with notaries who can scan from the signing table. Here is why. With estate planning, the original documents stay with the signer. The notary does not take them. The trust, the will, the power of attorney— the signer keeps the documents, but the attorney who drafted those documents still needs a copy of the signed documents for their file. There's no FedEx envelope to fall back on. So if you can't scan from the signing table, you'll never be able to get estate planning work for signing services. So Let's fix it and help you make more money. There are 2 simple solutions. Ready for solution 1? Just bring the standalone desktop scanner you already own, simply unplug it from your home office, and put it in your car. That's the whole fix. It costs you nothing. See, most notaries have never thought about the fact that the scanner sitting on their desk is portable. So you just connect your desktop scanner to your phone's mobile hotspot, and you can scan from literally almost anywhere. The second solution is to get yourself a desktop standalone scanner just like this. How come I keep saying the word standalone? It is because there are some old-school notaries who will get an all-in-one style printer and scanner. That is where the scanner is literally attached to the body of a laser dual-tread printer. Now, we obviously see the problems this would pose to make this a mobile scanning solution. So the solution is to get yourself a desktop standalone scanner just like this. And you'll be able to scan from every signing table location. Bottom line is an all-in-one isn't so mobile, so you will want a second standalone scanner. Now, if you're a brand new notary, just start with a standalone scanner like this and you're set right out of the gate. Can we kill a word here? When people say mobile scanner, they picture something in their head like those little tiny skinny ones that they get from Staples the size of a paper towel roll. Do not buy that. That feeder literally only holds 5 pages and you'll be standing in someone's dining room for hours feeding 150 pages into a 5-page feeder. Remember, mobile just means it comes with you, and a desktop scanner can be a mobile scanner. And your phone, by the way, is not a scanner. A lot of signing services flat out won't accept phone scans. I repeat, you cannot rely on scanning documents with your phone, and it'll take you like a million hours to take a single picture of all your docs. So where do you plug the scanner into is what you're The easiest answer is the wall. You're already inside the house, just ask to plug this into the wall. It's as simple as this. You walk to the door with your desktop scanner in hand and you simply say, hi, I'm Mark, your notary. The signing service has asked me to scan your documents before I leave the appointment to make sure everything was signed correctly and nothing holds up your closing. Is that okay? And that's the sentence asking if you can scan from the signing table. That is a sentence that so many notaries do not say that Being able to scan from the signing table will make you more money. The ability to scan when the borrower is done signing their loan docs will change your business for the better. But if you're new, or maybe you're a veteran notary public loan signing agent, you're like, Mark, it feels so awkward for me to carry this all the way from my car through their front door to the signing room table. Well, there's another way. Just do it from your actual car. This $25 car power inverter from Amazon, simply plug it into your car's cigarette lighter, plugs into your 12-volt socket like that, and it turns your car into a wall socket. You plug your scanner right into the wall socket, and now you're running your scanner off of your car. 2 things real quickly: keep the engine running so you don't come out to a dead battery, and remember, a small inverter like this runs a scanner, but it really can't run a LaserJet printer. Don't try, because I have. Real quick pro tip: pair your scanner to your phone's hotspot once, And leave it there. Same network every appointment. You don't need to reconnect it every single time as it connects automatically, and you'll never have to ask anyone for the Wi-Fi password or hope their Wi-Fi signal reaches in the dining room where you are. Now, the only exception is if you're way out in the sticks, you're in a rural area, and your cell phone service is spotty, then I would obviously ask for the Wi-Fi. I would act like that's your backup, not your default. Now, the last thing This is what turns the tool into income, so listen to me carefully, please. Go into your signing agent profiles right now, whether that be SnapDocs, Signing Order, NotaryDash, or any other profile that you have where signing services find you to give you business, and make sure you have a mobile scanner checked just like you see here on the Signing Orders platform. See, some profiles put it under something different like equipment, but they all are going to have somewhere where you can check mobile scanning. Secondary pro tip, signing services search for this capability, so that's why you got to stop what you're doing, go in all your platforms, and make sure that mobile scanning is clearly marked so you can get searched with mobile scanning. Because if you don't, signing services can't find you, and this tiny but massive move can make you money. So if you're wondering how to get notary signing jobs, don't just think about getting more certifications or signing up more platforms.
