Project Streamline -- business simplification! The early stages of #PriceLikeAGirl

In this Project Streamline video, Mary Schiller outlines her Price Like a Girl initiative, a business segment aimed at empowering creators—especially women—to price their services confidently and earn the income they desire. She explains the problem of undervaluation among coaches and creatives, then details the concrete steps she has taken: creating a landing page (pricelikeagirl.com) offering a free guide "The Top 5 Ways to Double Your Fees Fast," writing and self‑publishing an ebook "How to Price Like a Girl" via Draft2Digital to reach Amazon, iTunes, Kobo, and Barnes & Noble, and employing a price‑matching tactic to make the ebook free on Amazon. Mary describes her email marketing plan, modeled after Nick Stephenson’s "First 10,000 Readers" course, with an automated welcome series to nurture new subscribers. She also explores future growth ideas, such as hosting a telesummit with recorded interviews and affiliate revenue sharing, and she highlights community‑building efforts through a Facebook group and small, interactive workshops. Throughout, she shares personal motivation, drawing parallels to professional basketball leadership, and invites viewers to join her list, group, or reach out directly.

Hello, hello, Mary Schiller back with you for another episode of Project Streamline, where I talk about what I'm doing to simplify my business, uh, have a bigger reach, more impact, and more income all at the same time. So in this video, I wanted to share a little bit about what I'm doing with the Price Like a Girl initiative, project, segment of my business in a little more detail. So I was inspired, I don't know what it was, maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago now as I'm recording this, it's towards the end of June, I don't know what the date is, 25th or something, 2017, and I was really inspired because I see so many coaches and creative people, mostly women, but men too, who are doing the most magnificent work and helping amazing people and just all around spectacular. And yet they aren't earning enough money to pay their bills. They're not living the life that they really want to be living because they don't have the money to do that. And I'm the first person to tell you that I know that money itself doesn't make one happy. I have been rich and miserable, and I have had almost no money and been spectacularly happy. So I realize that there's no correlation there. But I do believe that it's fine to want material wealth. It is absolutely okay to want to be rich. if you feel like there are things that you need to do and want to do in this world that require money. And so that's really my aim with this whole project is that I want people to feel free to earn the money that they want to earn and not feel restricted in any way, that they will have more confidence in not just what they're offering, but what that offering will be worth to someone else. And it's pretty hard for us to see our own value to someone else in terms of our professional offerings and capabilities. There are some ways we can sort of do that, but it is difficult. And so that's something that I want to help people to see, particularly women, because I think we have a real tendency to undervalue and underappreciate ourselves and what we are doing here. So that was really the impetus behind Price Like a Girl, and also the like a girl part of it, meaning that I want that to reflect confidence and strength and power and not sort of the traditional way that that phrase is used societally, meaning, you know, weak and not to be taken seriously. So to that end, what I have done so far— I'll kind of go through this— is I put up a website at Pricelikeagirl.com. I just redid it yesterday to be more of a landing page. I'm not totally thrilled with the design, but I wanted just something there that was more of a landing page where people can input their name and email address to get a free guide that I've called The Top 5 Ways to Double Your Fees Fast. I also wrote a book that is only in ebook form. I forget how many words it turned out to be. I want to say something around maybe 8 or 9,000. I could look it up, but something like that. Called How to Price Like a Girl. And the subtitle I think I ended up with was, um, set your fees or know your value, set your fees and start making real money. And I have now put that book up on Amazon and I've also uploaded it to iTunes, Kobo, and Barnes Noble. Through a service called Draft2Digital, and that's a 2 like the number 2. And Draft2Digital allows you to do that for free, and then they take a percentage of each sale. The reason why I've put it up there onto those other platforms is I do kind of want to diversify myself a little bit. So with all of my other books, they are, except for I Am Just a Woman, but all the other ones I enrolled in the Kindle Select, I think it's called. I never remember the exact name, but it's the one that allows you to have certain days where you promote your book for free and it's part of Kindle Unlimited so people can, you know, borrow it and, and all of that. And I started feeling like maybe that was limiting me too much. So for this one, I have some real specific goals for this book. I want it to be on all the platforms, and I want it to be free on all of the platforms. I want to use it as my main, uh, attracting marketing tool for Price Like a Girl, for not just a business for me, but also for this movement that I'm essentially trying to start around pricing and money and strength and women and all of that. So the only way to get a book free on Amazon, because you cannot do that when you upload a book into Kindle Direct Publishing, you have to set a minimum price of $0.99. So the only way to make it free is if you put it for free on the other platforms, which you are allowed to do through Draft2Digital. And then once it's up on one or two of those, You write to Amazon and you say, hey, my book is free on these sites, and you give them the links. Can you please price match it and make it free on Amazon worldwide? So generally, I actually tried this quite a long time ago with a novel that I had up that isn't up right now, but I will be again this year. But that's a whole other story. But so it usually happens pretty quickly. So if you— I haven't checked recently, but as of this morning, it was still at 99 cents. I don't know what it is right at this moment as I'm recording this for you, but I'm assuming that within the next, you know, 24 to 48 hours, it will be free on Amazon. And then I'm going to start to promote it. So I will let people on my lists know about it. I will talk about it on social media. I'll probably do a video like this specifically about the book. And I have put inside the book, you can see it if you go onto Amazon and you do the look inside, you'll see the offer there for the free download of the top 5 ways to double your fees fast is right there, like a big advertisement. I wanted people to see that right when they go to the Look Inside feature on Amazon, and it's also at the very end of the book as well, because I really want to start a conversation with people through email. So as another piece of that, I am following some directions from this course that I'm taking by a guy named Nick Stephenson. That's with a PH if you want to look him up. I think his program is called something about get your first 10,000 readers, and he has a beautiful setup for emails to send out to people. So right now, my— I only have 2 emails set up in an automated thing when people get this download, but over the next few days, I'm going to write a whole series of them sort of following his example because I thought it was just really, really nicely done. It's incredibly generous It's incredibly friendly, not salesy in any way. It's really just trying to get people into a nice conversation and show them that you appreciate them, which I certainly do. I really appreciate every single person who downloads my books and takes the time to read them and then takes the other step of signing on to my list. So this is one, main tool that I hope to use to attract people into the whole Price Like a Girl world. The other thing that I was considering this morning in this regard is putting on a telesummit. So I'm sure many of you have gone to a telesummit or signed on to go to one. There are different ways you could do it. The way that I was thinking of doing it was interviewing, I don't know exactly, maybe 4 or 5 people, maybe on Zoom, recording those interviews, and then on a specific day having them available live all through the day. So it might start at 10 and end at 4 or something like that and have one person per hour, including myself, and then having a way for people to purchase the bundle of interviews later after the tele-summit is over and giving each of the speakers a percentage of the sales through an affiliate arrangement. So they wouldn't get paid for the interview, but they would get paid a percentage every time somebody purchased the bundle of interviews through their specific link. And I had thought that I really wanted to do a teleseminar around this issue of money, pricing, and entrepreneurship. And so that's kind of on my radar. So I'm doing some investigating about how one would go about doing this. I don't know how complicated it is. My sense is it's probably not that complicated. I can figure it out. Um, but I'm kind of open to new ways of bringing people in. My whole mindset, if you will, even though I really dislike that word and don't totally get what it means, but I'll just say the whole way that I'm thinking seems to point towards just opening my arms and kind of bringing people in who may be feeling very unsure of themselves if they are doing their own thing business-wise and they're not making the kind of money that they want to make. They're not comfortable with how to price things. They're getting tangled up between their value as a person and their value as a professional. And then there's all kinds of other kind of money thinking that's going on. And I really want to help to clear the smoke of all of that and help people to really get in touch with their natural clarity that's available to them in everything. And that means money, pricing, business, and all of that. So the next steps for me in that regard are to, um, continue to write the series of emails that will go out when someone signs up to my list on pricelikeagirl.com, to keep an eye on the Kindle book and make sure that it goes free, and then start publicizing it. I also have a free group on Facebook related to this. If you'd like to join, you're welcome to. I'll put the link below. Below the video. So I'm encouraging people to ask questions in there. I ran a really cool workshop last week, I guess it was. So I definitely want to host more of those. It was really nice. It was a small group of people. And there was a lot of back and forth that was really helpful to everybody. So I'd like to keep those at least to begin with quite small, like 10 people or less, So I'm going to add some more of those to the schedule. And I'm just feeling like super fired up about this. I woke up this morning feeling really excited. And it could have been— I was in a really good mood last night. My husband and I were watching a documentary about basketball, professional basketball. I've been a huge pro basketball fan my whole life. And the series of documentaries on ESPN was about the Celtics-Lakers and all their great competitions. And I just Enjoyed that period of my life so much and watching those games, and I felt inspired watching these guys step up and be leaders. And, and I feel like that's really what I want to do. Like, at this point in my life, no more shrieking violet stuff. I just want to be out front and being someone who people can turn to. So I hope that this video is helpful, as will be the others in the series as I keep going. And please feel free to get in touch with me. Um, or post comments. I'm happy to chat with you. I'll talk to you again soon. Bye for now.
