Project Streamline: Mary is simplifying her business!

Mary Schiller is streamlining her business into three areas: self-publishing books with marketing training, converting her three-year-old Liftoff program into a DIY course with optional group coaching, and launching Price Like a Girl, a free ebook and website to help solopreneurs price their services.

Hello there, it's Mary Schiller. I wanted to follow up on my promise to share a few videos with you talking about what I'm doing to streamline and simplify my work and what I'm offering people. So this is the first of those videos, and I don't have a script or anything, so I'm going to kind of wing it here. And the main reason that I felt the need to simplify things is because I felt like I was going in too many directions. And as a result of that, I wasn't doing the best work that I could. I wasn't serving people in the way that I wanted to. So I sat down recently and figured out, you know, what are the ways that I really feel like I'm helping people? What do I enjoy doing? And what looks really fun for me to continue doing? And 3 things came to mind. One is that I really enjoy writing and self-publishing the books. The other was this program that is concluding shortly called Lift Off. And the third is a new initiative that I started called Price Like a Girl. So I'll talk just a little bit about each of those things and tell you why I'm focusing on them. So I'll start with the books. The books have been an amazing way for me to have a lot more reach with what I'm talking about, and they have touched a lot of people. I hear from people all the time who have read them, and so I want to keep writing new ones, and also I'm going to make a major focus on marketing the books starting now. And I've invested in some training to help me do that because I really don't know much about book marketing when you are a self-published author. And so I'm going through some training on that right now, and I'm hoping that it will help my book sales to increase and therefore increase both my reach and my income, which would be nice. The second thing that I mentioned is this program that's just concluding now called Liftoff. And Liftoff is really the culmination of everything that I have learned in the past 3 years of looking at these 3 principles and how they can help people to make huge changes in their life. And I've taken all that I know and put it into this Liftoff program. And the— for this first run, it was a live group program, and then some of the people also opted to do one-to-one coaching with me. Going forward, I'm going to offer it as a do-it-yourself program, and then also with the option of one-to-one coaching with me. I am toying with the idea of creating a membership around this program, so you would get access to the 8 weeks of the course materials, and then you would get ongoing support in the form of one group coaching call per month. Uh, so that's something that I'm considering, and the reason why I'm considering that is that I think it would be really nice to be able to offer people, uh, some continual support, uh, even if it's a group call once a month. That's still worth a lot. I know that I've been in programs like that, and I'm in one right now actually, and I really, really value the ability to ask questions. So for instance, the program that I'm in right now that offers that, I'm not always able to attend the calls live, but there's a way for me to post questions ahead of time and they will address them on the calls, which is really cool. So the third one that I mentioned is Price Like a Girl. And the reason why this came about, as you might know, is because I started noticing that a lot of coaches and other entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, particularly women, are in my estimation way undercharging for the work that they do. And I wanted to do something to try to encourage people to look at pricing and really figure out how they could charge more for doing such great work because they've earned it. And so I have written a new book called How to Price Like a Girl. And I have a website at pricelikeagirl.com, and I'm getting things rolling with that. The book I just uploaded today to all the different retailers, it's going to be free on all of them. Amazon has a little quirky thing where you can't offer your book free to start with. You have to put it on the other sites and put it free there, and then they will price match it. But I'm really using that book as a way to attract new readers, as a way to get them involved in Price Like a Girl and also see my other offerings. So in essence, it's a great piece of content, I think, but it's also going to work as an advertisement, a marketing tool for what I'm doing. I may use that same tactic with one or two of my other books. Right now, all my other books are enrolled in the Kindle Direct Publishing Select, so I can't put them on other sites just yet. But when those contracts expire in a couple of months, then I'm going to start offering those ebooks on the other retailers and make one or two of them, of them permanently free as well. So essentially what I'm doing is I looked at my core strengths, I looked at what people were getting the most value from, and I've decided to base everything, for the moment at least, on those things. So the books for reach and for impact, as well as for marketing purposes, Liftoff as my way of really helping people gain momentum and effect change in any area of life that they're interested in changing. It works across the board. And it's really the expression of everything that I've seen related to the principles. At the moment, I can't do any better than that. And then the pricing project, which I feel is quite supportive of not only people in the Three Principles community, but other people who are working for themselves who are doing wonderful things in the world and want to make a beautiful income to go along with that. So as I go through this process of streamlining and simplifying, I will keep you guys updated and tell you what I'm doing. In the next video, I'll go into some more detail about what I've done for each of these things in, um, in a little bit more step-by-step fashion in case you're interested in knowing some of that. So stay tuned, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post them here or send me an email, mary@marieschiller.com. I'll talk to you again soon. Bye.
