Transcript of a YouTube vlog (Doc the Journey Ep 84) by Matthew Kelly documenting a last-minute trip to Cape Town for New Year's Eve. The video covers: a long flight to South Africa; arrival at a friend’s newly purchased mansion hosting an extravagant New Year’s Eve party; casual back-and-forth between Matt and Tristan (and an unnamed/anonymous girlfriend); reflections on content posting frequency; personal goals for 2025 (hiring, launching products, regaining fitness); a 5 km run time reported (~20:40, previously ~17:00), and an ambitious marathon target of 2:45. Long flight ahead 12 hours. Back in the virgin. Angled seats. First world problem. It's not quite Emirates, but cannot complain. First time in South Africa. Very excited. Trying to be discreet filming this, but yeah, I'll document as we go. Catch you there. But.
Don't fly ver yo.
So I'm at the most ridiculous Cape Town New Year's Eve party. I don't know if I should even be filming, to be honest. It's outside. It's actually in my mate's house, which is the most crazy thing. He just bought this ridiculous literal mansion and you can look at it two ways and me, they're like, I'm not there yet. The other thing is, it's possible. I know people have done it and it's very inspiring having the most ridiculous place. This is like full on LA frat party spec with like security and shit, like 8pm but it's going to get a lot more crazy.
So we made it to Cape Town. Let me show you guys. Anonymous girlfriend. She cannot be in the screen. How are you doing, Matt?
We're at the most anonymous but biggest scale in the world. New Year's Eve party in his ridiculous new mansion. There's many levels to this year, isn't there, Tristan?
Yeah. Are you enjoying it?
Yeah, I'm considering not going back to the UK ever.
I don't know how the lady thinks about that.
She's watching over there, judging what I'm saying.
I think she's judging. Look at this, though. The quality is kind of good.
Put the wide angle on.
Even.
Oh, yeah. It's a bit blurry, but it's kind of foggy. What's going on?
How long are you staying here then? Only a week.
Only like a week.
Nice. So, welcome to South Africa. Do you have anything for the pod?
Huh?
Do you have anything for the pot? Tell them something.
I guess the Met. The moral of this story is just keep scaling.
Keep scaling.
What?
When you keep scaling happens.
And always be the apprentice.
Always be the apprentice. You're the wizard's apprentice.
The wizard. You cannot see us, but. You're not so good at the angles.
Matt, Keep speaking.
Meet a wizard apprentice.
Yeah.
Always the wizard's apprentice. This is the ultimate collab. It's the original doctor Journey with.
Exactly.
With the version of do the Journey.
The very low key ones. Still, still, still. If you keep posting like this, you'll blow up soon too.
If you keep eight videos in one month.
Exactly.
I'm very bipolar with it. Like I am in real life. I don't post for Two years.
Like a year.
Then I post eight times in a month.
I love this angle. So what are you going to do in 2025 differently than you did in 2024?
Focus on. Instead of grinding all the time, which is hiring good people and launching better products and also gonna get shredded again like I did in 2022. That was a historical shred and a historical comeback after my previous business and girlfriend. And then I've let myself go recently. We did a 5k today, around like a 20 minute 40 seconds. It was uphill in the sun, but that's really, really poor. I used to be like 17 minutes back.
But remember, we're L now.
Exactly. So I need to keep scaling and.
Keep shredding and do a faster run this year than you did. Yeah.
2:45 marathon.
You kind of did a good base benchmark today. No.
Yeah. It was a good foundation. It proved how unfit I am.
Yeah.
But I still beat Simon and me. You were fully racing.
So. Welcome back to the original documentary Journey. We're going to enjoy tonight. And it's New Year's Eve, so it's going to be a fun one. It's going to be a fun one. Signing out for now. Happy New Year's. I hope you had a good Christmas and we'll see you in the next one.
Put your hand on there. Block it out.
Race of color. So it's quite easy to see the difference between a male and a female. This is the. The mating season for.
It's fine.
Can you please.
Just. About 50 to 60% of the visitation they eat. So it's building up quite a lot of gas. So then on this side, we do have African elephants and a herd of a small group of alien antelopes. It's called a bachelor herd.
Dodgy little monkey.
That's so funny.
Why are people so bad at taking photos?
Yeah, they're always. They're always out in the middle of the reserve. About three hours from Cape Town. Very, very local. Interesting New Year's Day. I'm vlogging that much to say. Really. Just documenting. Different way of life. Crazy weather. UV 12.
There is the same substance going from our nails and our hair. If you do cut it safely. A mix of keratin and bone. So a rifle bullet sometimes.
