Some Reflections on Location, Life & Growth on a Cosy Sunset Yacht Trip - Doc the Journey Ep 80

A conversational YouTube transcript of a sunset yacht trip in Dubai where the speakers reflect on lifestyle choices (living in London vs Dubai), personal life changes, and practical business growth and operations advice for direct-to-consumer brands. The dialogue mixes casual observations about the trip (yacht size, guests, weather) with rapid-fire tips on scaling (volume/testing, product quality, creatives) and running operations (planning, stock/order management), and a stated goal for a growth firm named 'Candy' to take equity and act as a marketing/ growth partner.

We're absolutely rolling in women with six guys no girls on the Dubai yachts as you can see. Absolutely rolling in it. Not quite the same as a few years ago but I'm a married man these days technically or thereabouts so pretty nice views. Couple beers. There we go. Dubai yacht trip. No females on board which is incredibly embarrassing but also fitting. Beautiful place, beautiful weather. Reminds me of the Croatian trip a few months ago but about a third of the size. So this is like a 90 footer, something like that. It's pretty big. There's only six of us on it. Definitely not enough people. Last time I was here was April 23rd. Check the YouTube and there was probably a similar sized boat but maybe 10 guys, 20 girls. Very different situation, different life. Stage single back then. Not anymore. Fly back to London tomorrow. I'm starting to think why am I flying back to London? Firstly, I have nowhere to live in London. Well currently because I probably stupidly got rid of my base in London a few months ago and then realized actually in hindsight the grass is not greener in London and that was a pretty fucking sick place to live in London. But there we go. Can't go back and my girlfriend's in London. That's kind of why we've hired a lot of new people. She's there for her own business. She's trying to move away from it. This is a little weird setup going on and then yeah, I guess new hires and stuff. A lot of stuff I could definitely do with being in London for But when it's remote. First business, which has always been to someone's question would I get more done here? You can almost lock in more here. It feels like kind of less distractions in a way. And I feel better here because it's sunny all the time. I know a lot of people here. Almost everyone is entrepreneurial to some extent, even if they're not actually a founder it's pretty healthy lifestyle, good time zone, etc so we'll see. I don't know. On this yacht with a few guys that got brands and so on, one of them asked me like why am I still in London? And I kind of didn't know the answer. So it is a bit of a stereotype just to say, well obviously I'm not going to be but I don't know, I need to change music on that. That's a bit heavy. So yeah, back to London tomorrow for a while I think. You know, I'm gonna follow this yacht. Got a gay shirt on again. See how long I'm there for and I will update you in a bit. I'm gonna enjoy the rest of this trip. See you soon. Redacted brand name what's the key to scaling? Get drunk. What's the one key to scaling? I want a quick answer that gives some philosophical volume. Volume, what does that mean?
A lot of everything. Like test a lot, test a lot of creatives, a lot of angles, a lot of landing pages, volume, a lot of everything in a short period of time and then build on those assets.
All right, Cool matters, that clip on this holder.
Honestly I would say, I would say number one thing is product quality because you always can sell once, but it's all about retention and in order to sell once, it's the offer, the angle and then the volume.
Yeah, something like that.
What's the key to running operations in a fast growing brand?
I think it's having a good structure and that means having a good structure in back end stock management, order management, everything. Knowing what, what to do, knowing what not to do and especially planning in advance is I think the most important thing. You got to know what's coming up and plan in advance, especially with lead times and all that. So yeah, planning. Really? That's it.
All right, sweet. No, just. Is that what I say on it?
Yeah, you can say no.
No.
Just no. Just no. No.
Yeah.
What's the goal with Candy Go.
Yeah, goal is pretty simple. It's actually is just to open up so not to become an agency but become a growth partner with the brands and open up Candy for equity. Just basically be a marketing department for multiple brands and own equity and just basically. Yeah. And just scale.
Just scale.
Yeah, just scale and just not be a simple agency but be something more. Yeah.
Awesome. Right? Simple.
