A short, first-person monologue by Matthew Kelly describing how he learned video editing by doing real projects and teaching himself from YouTube. He recounts his first major job — a stressful Black Friday campaign — where he experimented with green screens (imperfectly set up), tried role-playing as a fake news reporter, and learned Premiere Pro basics and green-screen keying from YouTube tutorials.

How the fuck do you get so good at editing? Do you like going some crash course? Yeah, no course. Gradually doing it over time, I guess we took on some job. My first ever big campaign was a Black Friday campaign, which is pretty wild. They're stressful at best of times. That was the first time I sort of like, jumped in the deep end and was like, let's just fucking do this. So we had this whole idea, and I was like, we can green screen. We can get some fake news reporters in. I even played one of them, put a fucking wig on. I was like, all in on it. We basically set out this whole thing and we had green screens, which we didn't put up properly. It was all crinkled and everything. I was like, yeah, I can take that out and add shit in the back. I had no idea how to do it. I just started to touch on Premiere Pro at the time. That was my first thing. And it was just YouTube, like, how to, you know, key out green screen backgrounds and stuff like that. So that's kind of how that started.
