The speaker describes how in year two they began investing in mentors—trialing different people to find those who fit the business and its values. They emphasize selecting mentors who share the same values and who will make the business better through improved communication, knowledge, growth, and connections.
Year two was where we invested in our first mentors. So that was the year of trialing different people and finding the people that inhibited what we wanted to be. So it's not in when I say this. When you get mentorships to grow because that's what you need at a certain point of business, you can't do it by yourself because it's like unless you strike lucky, which people, I think just think they're magical and they think they're better than everybody else. Fit tribe. We have no ego. We work on. The fact is that if you're better, you're better. I don't care. Like, I don't care if I've trained you or someone. If you're coming in with a better idea, it's better. So when we bring people on, what we evaluate now is if it's the same values, every single person you invest into will make you better somehow. Make you better somehow. In communication with knowledge, with growth, with meeting other people, it's connections that way.
