How Much a YouTube Channel Can Earn at 1K, 100K, and 1 Mil Views

Matt Parr breaks down YouTube earnings at different view counts using CPM rates and affiliate commissions. At 1 million monthly views with a $7 CPM, you'd make around $7,000 from ads plus affiliate income. Finance, tech, health, and travel niches command higher CPMs, sometimes $30-$50.

I'm going to reveal to you how much money YouTube channels can make at different view counts. But before I do, I think you should understand the 4 different ways that YouTube channels can make money. And these 4 ways are AdSense, affiliate marketing, selling your own product, or brand deals. And a big misconception out there is that YouTube channels make money based on the amount of subscribers they have, but this could not be further from the truth. I have channels that have over a million subscribers that make less money than channels that I run with only 50,000 subscribers. So subscriber count doesn't matter, but what does matter is your monetization methods and the amount of views that you're getting. Your views and the quality of those views are way more important than the subscribers that you have. And while it might be cool to get play buttons and brag about how many subscribers you have, what's way more cool in my opinion is making a ton of money and providing a ton of value to your audience. Now for this video in particular, we're going to be focusing on ad revenue and affiliate marketing just because I believe these are some of the easiest ways to get started with making money on YouTube. And in order to figure out how much money that you will make from ad revenue, we need to take into account something called CPM. Now CPM stands for cost per milli, and it's essentially how much money you make per 1,000 views. RPM is actually how much you get paid out per 1,000 views, but I'm gonna be using the two terms interchangeably here, and by CPM, I also mean RPM, even though technically they are different things. And in order to get an idea based off of my experience running channels in all kinds of different niches, in low CPM niches, I typically see $2 to $3 per 1,000 views, whereas in higher CPM niches, I see as much as $30 to $50 per 1,000 views. So this can vary wildly and it can greatly impact the amount of money you're making from YouTube. For the purpose of this video, let's use a middle-of-the-road estimate with $7 per 1,000 views and we'll use that as our CPM. And now when it comes to calculating our affiliate income stream, we first need to make sure that we're in a niche that actually has affiliate products available. You can't do affiliate marketing unfortunately in every single niche. However, there are niches where there's tons of affiliate products and great ones to promote. Promote. And the niches that I recommend going into that have great affiliate products would be health, wealth, happiness, relationships, and travel. And then what I recommend doing is choosing a sub-niche of one of these categories. For example, if you chose wealth as your overall niche, a sub-niche of that would be investing. If you chose health, a sub-niche of health would be, for example, weight loss. Then in order to find affiliate products, you can go to websites like clickbank.com and digistore24.com. And you can also go onto big YouTube channels within your niche, see if they're selling something like a course or something else, and then see if they have an affiliate program for that. And now let's go over how much money that YouTube channels can make at different view counts. Now I do wanna give a disclaimer here that I'm not saying that if you get these view counts, you'll make exactly this much money. It's not possible for me to predict that, nor is it for anybody. However, this is going to at least give you an idea based off of my experience running tons of different channels in different niches, how much money these channels could be making. And it might really open your eyes to and inspire you to do YouTube. So let's start with 1,000 views per month. I'm highly confident that anybody watching this channel right here can get their own channel to 1,000 views per month. And in order to do this, you literally only need 10 videos getting 100 views per month each, and boom, you hit 1,000 views per month. Now let's take a look at how much money you would make from ad revenue given that $7 CPM. Well, from ad revenue then you'd be making $7 per month, which isn't the most, but you'll see how that increases here in just a second when we go over some of the higher view counts. But now let's take into account affiliate marketing. Let's say we're in a good niche that has an affiliate product to promote. Now let's say we're going to promote a $100 product. There's products out there that are way more expensive where you could make way more, for example, $1,000 products. But let's be conservative here. Let's say that you promoted a $100 affiliate product and you got a 50% commission of that. So every sale you get, you get $50. And let's say 0.1% of your 1,000 views per month buy the product. That would equal just 1 sale. So boom, you have $50 from affiliate products and $7 from ad revenue, giving you your grand total of $57 per month at 1,000 views per month. Now let's kick it up a notch. Now let's go up to 10,000 views per month. Well, given our $7 CPM, that would be $70 now from ad revenue. So that's starting to increase nicely. And given the same math for the affiliate products, that would now bump us up to $500 from affiliate marketing. That'd be 10 sales at $50 each. And I'm not factoring into account refunds or anything. We're just doing some rough math right here. But this is at least going to give you an idea. And as we get up into the higher view counts, you might be shocked at how much different channels could be making. You probably watch tons of channels on YouTube and don't even realize, like, they could be running a big business doing this. Not to mention they could be running other channels on the side, pulling in revenue from all types of different sources. So YouTube can get really crazy in the amount of money you can potentially make. And now let's bump it up to 100,000 views per month. And I'm highly confident if you're in a good niche that's been proven to work, there's tons of videos going up regularly with over 50,000 to 100,000 views, and you do a little market research, this will then show you that it's possible for you to do it as well. If there's tons of channels in a niche getting a million views per month, you can definitely get 100,000 views per month as long as you create videos as good as the videos that are performing well within that niche, no matter how much competition that there is. So at 100,000 views per month, that would now bring us up to $700 from ads, which is very nice. But what's even nicer is from affiliate revenue, we would now be pulling in $5,000 per month. A lot of people could quit their jobs with the amount of money that we're making now, and that would bring our grand total now up to $5,700 per month. And if we're getting 100,000 views per month in a good niche, we'll probably now be having brands reach out to us too for sponsorship, product placements, and stuff like that. So let's say you do at least one product placement, make at least a couple hundred dollars, if not $1,000 from it, then that would be hitting $6,000 per month. And now let's get to where things get very fun, which is 1 million views per month. This is usually my goal when I start new channels, and it depends on the niche. Some channels that I have are goals higher than this, but with the majority of my channels, the goals are to adventure, hit at least 1 million views per month. Now, some niches are much lower than that just due to the fact that there's not as much demand, but in more entertainment-focused niches, we can definitely hit 1 million views per month. And this is where things start to get fun. Now, from ad revenue, we're going to be pulling in $7,000 per month. And from affiliate products, if we use the same math that we've been using at the 0.1% conversion rate on that $100 affiliate product with a 50% commission, we would be pulling in $50,000 per month from affiliate marketing. So our grand total then would be $57,000 per month. And if we do a couple affiliate products, that'll bump it up to at least $60,000, which sounds absurd. It sounds crazy. You probably hear YouTubers out there talking about how much money they make. I personally make over $100,000 per month from YouTube and some other income streams that I have. And it sounds absurd, but when you do the math and you break it down, you can actually see how exactly this is possible. Now, if you recall earlier in this video, I said that CPM is very important in determining how much money you make per 1,000 views. And I personally run some channels in very high CPM niches that make $30 to $50 per 1,000 views. And I'm gonna reveal the best high CPM niches in just a second to give you an idea of what types of channels are actually making that much or more per 1,000 views. But first, let's go over some of the math that we just did, but now plugging in $30 per 1,000 views as an example, if we chose a high CPM niche. And we're just gonna take into account ad revenue for this. So at 1,000 views per month, that would be $30 per month from ads. At 10,000 views per month, that would be $300 per month from ads. At 100,000 views per month, that would be $3,000 per month from ads. And at a million views per month, that would be $30,000 from ads. And then if we throw an affiliate product on top of that, or you sell something with your channel, it can get crazy. And that's where we can start to get up to 6 figures per month or more. And some of my channels just focus on ad revenue alone because there's not really anything we can do to sell something with those channels if they're more entertainment focused. And that's great. That's a great business model. Run channels that focus solely on ad revenue. A lot of the top channels on YouTube do this, but it is always nice to have an alternative source of monetization as well. And a good example of that would be this channel that you're watching right here called Make Money Matt, because on this channel not only do I make some money from ad revenue, but I also sell a program called Tube Mastery Monetization 2.0, and it basically just teaches how to grow channels on YouTube and stuff like that. And this makes even more money and it helps a ton of people, so I think it's a win-win. And now like I promised, let's go over some of the best high CPM niches from my personal experience. So I have a list right here and I'm just gonna go through them real quick. We have finance, make money online, technology, health, investing, travel, legal, insurance, makeup, marketing, real estate, cars, movies. And what I really recommend is choosing niches that you have somewhat of an interest in so you don't just quit, you know, when things get hard and you upload 10, 30 videos, don't see a ton of traction. It usually takes 30 to 60 videos and building up a sizable backlog before you experience any sort of big growth on YouTube. But with that being said, it's well worth it when you do experience that growth. And I also recommend thinking about affiliate opportunities and also if you could sell something like your own course or something else that would make you even more money from your channel. And if you're thinking about doing a niche and you wanna do market research to see if it is a good niche to do, I highly recommend doing this equation for your channel. So what I typically do when I'm researching new channels, if I see a cool idea that's popping off on YouTube and I think to myself, maybe I should make a channel within that niche, What I personally do is I pull up 5 different channels that are within that niche. I use an extension called vidIQ to see how many views per month that, that channel is getting. And then I write down how many views per month each of those channels are getting. I see how often that they upload on their channel and I calculate out based off of a reasonable CPM how much money that those channels are making. And I take the average of that, see how often they post, and I ask myself, can I post that often as well? And if the answer is yes and I can produce content that's equal in quality, then I will definitely jump into that niche. I also like to take into equation how much it's going to actually cost me to produce the videos. If you're doing YouTube yourself and you're making the videos yourself, then obviously it's $0 to produce the videos. But if you're paying someone else, like I do on a lot of my channels, then it is going to cost some money, and I like to factor that in. Usually it's around $100 per video with most of my videos. But if you join Tube Mastery and Monetization 2.0, I give you a cheat sheet on exactly how much money to spend on video creation, how to hire job post templates, and everything you need for succeeding on YouTube. So if you're interested in that, I'll leave a link down below. I also answer every single question daily within our private community. But if you don't want to join, that's no problem either. I'm happy to give you as much value as I possibly can within these videos right here. But when you're ready to take the next step, I'm always here, happy to help. And also, if you're looking for a good affiliate product to promote within the wealth niche— so for example, if you started a channel about making money online, investing, personal finance, or anything like that, and you're looking for a product to promote, you'll probably come across all kinds of scammy products out there on places places like ClickBank, and I don't blame you if you don't want to promote one of those because at the end of the day you not only want to make money but you also want to provide a ton of value to your end viewers. And we actually do have an affiliate program for Tube Mastery and Monetization. So if you did want to sign up for that, you can go to digistore24.com, go to the affiliate marketplace, and I give you all kinds of resources like ads and everything you need to promote Tube Mastery if that's something you want to do. I'd be honored if you want to be business partners with me, but if not, no worries at all. There are other great products products to promote as well. But if you do promote Tube Mastery, you can rest well at night knowing that everybody who buys through your link is going to get taken care of. I answer every single question within our private community daily, and I don't know any other courses that do that personally. I've been doing this for like 3 years now, and I'd be happy to help you be business partners if you want to do that. But if not, no worries at all.
