Can A.I. Make Good Music? And Can We Use It In Our Videos?

The song that you're hearing right now was generated with an AI music generator. And in this video we're going to explore AI music and show you how to make songs just like the one that you're hearing right now.

Hey, what's up everyone? Matt Wolfe here. In today's video, I want to talk about music. Not just any music. I want to talk about using AI generated music. And in my opinion, this is one of the most underrated, under talked about areas of AI is actual AI music generation. And there's some really, really cool tools that you can use to generate royalty free music for things like videos or podcasts, or to remix your own songs out of or really do whatever you want. If you've heard the song that's in the outro of my video, that song was actually created with AI. And in today's video, I'm going to show you how you can actually generate music with AI as well. In fact, we're going to be looking at a few different AI music tools and kind of comparing because they each have their own pros and cons. So let's check some of them out. So I'm going to open up future tools here and if you click on the music tab down here, you'll see a bunch of tools around generative music and there's a few that I want to play around with. Some of them I've actually never used before. So we'll kind of demo them on this video here and some of them I've played with and already kind of know what to expect. This should be fun because we'll be learning together on this one. So first off, let's talk about refusion. Refusion is really interesting because what it's essentially doing is it's creating an image and then turning that image into a song. The term refusion comes from putting these two words together, riff and diffusion, because it's using something very similar to like stable diffusion, where with stable diffusion you enter a prompt and stable diffusion will generate an image from your prompt. Well, what refusion does is it generates an image as well, but it generates what's called a spectrogram, which is an image that can be turned into music. So imagine like a record, right? When you take a record and you put it on a record player and the needle, it spins and it hits little bumps on the record and then you get the sound out of it. This is sort of a digital version of that. You're getting an image with a very specific pattern on it, and then that pattern is then Translated into music. I know, I'm really oversimplifying this. You're using an, an AI to generate an image and then that image is converted into a sound clip. Now if you go to refusion.com about, you can actually get an explanation of how the technology works. So the x axis down here represents the time, the Y axis here represents the frequency, and then the shade of gray represents the amplitude. So how loud it is, the darker it is, the louder it's going to be. The lighter it is, the softer that sound's gonna be. And so using the same technology that something like stable diffusion uses, you are generating an image which has this sound data on it. And then that sound data can be then converted into audio. And if you really wanna dive into the weeds, just go over to refusion.com about and you can get all of the info about how this actually works. Now if you just go straight over to refusion.com you can enter keywords down here and it will generate music for you. Now, I personally don't know the licensing terms of. I don't know if you're allowed to use this royalty free. You know, I can't speak on that. I just wanted to show off Refusion because this is sort of the emerging technology that we're seeing in AI music right now. Over here we can click on one of the ones that they already have. Let's say I want to click on Anger Rap. It will generate this spectrogram here. And then if I come up to the right, I could press play and hear what it sounds like.

Now it's obviously not generating real words. It's all just kind of gibberish sounding music. You can see this image and as it passes through this red zone, it's converting this image into music. So let's try something. What happens if we type in Snoop Dogg? My last video, I mentioned Snoop Dogg and that video was a hit. So let's mention him again and let's press play.

There you go. It's kind of got like essence of Snoop Dogg to it. Let's do heavy metal or kistra. Let's see what that generates.

Not really getting the heavy metal orchestra vibes, but that's what it came up with for us. What about techno DJ and a country fiddle?

Interesting. Let's try punk rock with piano. Let it generate here for a sec.

So, you know, not perfect, but it's interesting. It's interesting to see how this technology is working behind the scenes here, using these images to turn into music. Now this isn't Something that I would say you're going to go and use as music for a YouTube video or a podcast or anything like that yet. But it is kind of a cool emerging technology that's using stable diffusion to create an image and then convert that image into music. Now let's talk about some tools that you are going to probably want to use for background music of videos and things like that. So as I mentioned, this song at the very end of all of my videos was actually, actually created by AI and this was the tool that I used. I actually used this Moobert tool to do it. And they even describe it here as royalty free background music for YouTube, TikTok podcasts and videos. So this is really the intended use of tools like Mubert. Each new piece of royalty free music is instantly generated and flawlessly suited to its purpose. So it's royalty free. And theoretically each song that comes out of this is a completely unique song that's just for you. Now, before we get into it too much, let's talk a little bit about the pricing here. So they do have a free tier here and you are allowed to use this music on things like YouTube videos and podcasts if you give them attribution. So if you look in the description of any of my YouTube videos, you'll always see this song was created by Mubert, that outro song that I've got there. It's only for personal projects and can be used for NFTs. And you can generate up to 25 tracks per month. The free plan. And it comes out in MP3. Now they do have paid plans, so for $14 a month it looks like you don't actually have to give the attribution anymore. And you can gener up to 500 tracks and you can generate them in wav and not just MP3 for $39 a month. You could use it for commercial projects, you can use it in things like ads. And then they have a business tier which you can generate a lot more tracks and use it in tv, radio, film, things like that. But for the purposes of this demo, we're going to play around with the free tier. For those of you that do need a lot more and you do need higher quality, you know, you've got the creator plan and the pro plan as well. So let's go ahead and log in. If I come up here to my downloads, you can hear my previous track that I.

And this is the song that you'll hear in the outro of my videos.

So let's go ahead and Generate a track and see how that works. So we'll generate a track. You could type a prompt or you can choose a genre, mood or activity. Let's enter a prompt. Let's try punk rock with piano and see what it gives us. Set the duration to whatever you need. Let's say we need a 22nd track. Let's go ahead and generate a 22nd track and it will start the process here. All right, so it says our track is done, so let's go ahead and press play and sample it.

Not really getting punk rock vibes from it, but that's what it gives you. I've had much better luck using the genres, moods and activities. So the last one that I created, I went to genres and I chose the eight bit genre. And you can see it put genre electronica, eight bit. I don't believe it actually lets me combine stuff. So if I went to moods and I added dreamy, it just replaces that. I haven't figured out how to, you know, sort of stack things. It would be kind of cool if I can go eight bit plus, you know, motivational plus fantasy or something like that. But it doesn't seem to let you stack them. If you need sort of like a background song to a video and you're going for a specific mood, mood is probably going to be the best. If you're going for a nostalgic feel, come down here, click nostalgic and generate a track. Now another thing I'd like to try is I wonder if it could generate a couple tracks at the same time while this one's still generating. If I go genres, dub and generate a track. Yeah, it looks like I can have multiple tracks going at once. So it's still working on my sad nostalgic 22nd track. And it's working on my dub 45 second track. Oh, interesting. It actually finished my dub track first. Go ahead and take a listen.

Oh, I think this one might be frozen or something. It's not finishing up for me. It definitely seems like when you use the moods mode, it takes a little bit longer generate than when you use genres. Now some of these songs are going to be hit or miss. You might get something you really like, you might not. But hey, you can use it for free as long as you're using it for non commercial use and you're willing to give attribution. And then here is the actual attribution and then you can agree and download. And there we go. It just downloaded the song for me. There's also a feature in here that says search by reference. Place a link to a YouTube video and it looks like it'll try to search and find similar music to a YouTube video. So let's try that out real quick. I don't know what kind of YouTube video to grab. Well, this is a music one here. So let's just go ahead and copy this one and see what happens. Looks like it's downloading the music to their servers here. Now it's analyzing it and let's see what it gave us. Now I'm not going to play the original video because it might have music that I could get in trouble for playing and YouTube would be like, don't do that. So I'm not going to do that. But let's hear what it came up with when it tried to find similar music.

That actually would make a really good background music to a YouTube video. Let's try another one.

These are all a lot better than what it was generating for me earlier. So maybe this search by reference is the way to go find a YouTube video that you really like. The kind of feel to the music in it and plug it into the search by reference and let it either. I don't know if it's finding a song or generating a song, but grab a song that way. All right, let's move on to the next tool. This is the tool that I used for my outro. So you have heard music from this platform platform before that was generated by AI. Let's move on to a tool that I actually haven't played with yet. Soundful is another one that I've recently come across. So let's give this one a try. Let's try another one. Let's try. Let's try poppy dream pop. I don't even know what that means. Synth pop, that sounds right up my alley. Can change the key down here, change the speed. You can have it in a minor key or a major key. A minor key is going to sound a little bit sadder. A major key is going to sound a little bit happier. I want happy because I'm using synth pop and synth pop is supposed to be happy, in my opinion. Doesn't look like you can really pick the length of the track you want like you can in some of the other platforms. Go ahead and create the preview of this. Looks like it's about 4 minutes and 6 seconds long.

Let's do the same thing, but let's mess around. Let's do it in the key of G and then let's crank up the BPMs to 100 and let's apply the changes and let's see how this sounds.

So much faster and in a different key.

Yeah, this one actually makes pretty good music. I like. I like the way this one comes out. So not too bad. That's soundful. Again, this one was free for personal use, unmonetized. $10 a month if you want to monetize and get unlimited downloads. And then if you want custom licenses, then they have enterprise options as well. And finally, let's check out the one that so far I've actually thought was kind of the coolest and it's sound. Draw this one. I felt like you can get the most custom and the most sort of dialed in with the music that you're looking for. This is one that I've played around with a little bit, and it's similar to the others. But I'll show you what I mean by how customizable you can get with it in a minute when we take a look at it. But first, let's take a look at the pricing. Let me jump to Monthly. It's $0 if you want to just generate the songs, or $20 a month if you want to use them for commercial use or use them in YouTube videos, social media, all of that kind of stuff. So super simple pricing plan, $20. You could pretty much. Seems like you could pretty much do whatever you want with the music you create free. You could create the music and listen to it and have it for yourself. So let's go ahead and sign in. And then up at the top, let's go ahead and create music. And then if we click up here, you can see you've got mood, genre, theme, length, tempo, instruments. So you can really get customized up here. So let's go ahead and click on mood. Let's go funny and weird for this one. Now it's generating music that's funny and weird. Let's go ahead and click on genre. Let's go beats. You can see it's actually starting to layer and stack these different elements to the song. Now let's click on theme. Let's do technology. So now we've got funny and weird beats and technology. And then let's go to the length. And I want my song to be 1 minute and 30 seconds. So we'll select that. You got tempo. You can do slow, normal, fast. And then you can select what instruments you want in there. If I don't want any piano in there, I can take piano out. If I don't want synth, I'll take synth out. But. But who wouldn't want synth? Let's go ahead and leave all that in. Let's say I don't want strings and I don't want voice in there. Now it's generating tracks with those qualities. So funny and weird beats, technology, a minute and 30 seconds, all sorts of tempos. Let's just. Let's set it as normal here. And that set of instruments there and let's take a listen to what it generated.

Now, here's what I really, really think is cool about sound Draw is let's say you made a video that's a minute and a half long. So you generated a song that's a minute and a half long. And in the beginning, you want the pace of the song to be kind of slow. And then right when you get into the action of what you're showing in the video, you want the beat to drop and you want to get faster. Check this out. It's got a little energy thing along the bottom here. Let's make it low energy for the first, you know, 15, 18 seconds, still low energy until about 27 seconds in. And then all of a sudden, we want the beat to drop and the energy to get real high right here, stay high, then maybe slow down a little bit, then get low energy again. And then right before we wrap it up, go high and then stay high and then have the outro. I just changed the whole pacing of the song so that it follows the flow of the video that it might be backing up with. Let's go ahead and listen to what this sounds like.

Go ahead and jump to this part. And then it's going to get high energy in a sec.

See? And then it just boosted the energy.

So now in your video, you can actually set where you want the song to pick up the pace and slow down the pace and. And that sort of thing. Let's try it with a different song here. Let's do this. This one here. Let's go low energy, low energy, very high energy right here. And stay high and then maybe just go to high and then medium and then low, and then slowly come back down. So let's start it right in here.

So that is really cool. But then you can even get more granular with it. See this over here? You actually have the. This pro mode over here. If I flip this on now, you can actually tell it what instruments you want during certain sections. So maybe for the beginning here, want it to be just bass for the very beginning. So you got a bass line going throughout here. And then maybe starting right here, you got the drums coming in. And then here you've got the melody start to come in a little bit, and then the beat drops there. Now we're getting, like real custom with it.

Now the drums just came in, so we got some percussion.

Now we got some melody there.

It's gonna drop.

Really, really, really cool stuff. Let's do. Let's mess with one more song. So this one is funny and weird, smooth, sexy, glamorous, laid back. So let's take a peek at this one and let's turn on pro mode here and let's start with just the drums, then we'll bring in the bass, and then we'll kick everything in high right here.

Just starting with drums.

And it drops.

So this is really cool. Out of all the music tools, this is my favorite because you can get really granular with it. You can pick a mood, you can stack it with a genre, you can stack it with a theme. You can mess with the length of the song and get it dialed into the length that you want. You can mess with the tempo here, and you can even select what instruments you want or don't want in there. And then you can actually come in and really, really customize. You can do sort of a simple mode and choose how you want the energy to flow throughout the song to sort of match your video or podcast or ad or whatever you're creating. Or you can go to pro mode and really dial it in and say, this is where I want the drum fills to be and this is when I want the bass to kick in. And during this part I just want drums and bass and nothing else. And then I want the beat to drop here. And you're just really cool and granular. And I just love the types of music that you could create with sound draw. So out of all of them, this is the one that I would recommend, but this is the one that you also have to pay for in order to use the music on anything monetized, anything commercial at all. If you want to just generate music for free that you can use on your videos and give attribution. Moobert is probably my second favorite that I've used because you can actually generate the songs, download it, use it for free, give them attribution, and you're good to use it. That's my breakdown of the various music tools you want to explore even more. There's actually other music tools that I didn't dig into here.
